NW, sums it up, we've had worse, we've had better. Good luck to the lad.

It was time for him to move on, thanks for the past few years, scored some great goals and performed admirably in what was undoubtedly our lowest point in history.

I hold him in high regard. Played with passion and had quality.

Wish him luck and he will go to a top league 1 club IMO.

I wouldn't be too disappointed. He'll be back to score the winner against us in a few months.

Total respect for the guy...despite family tradgedy and so much heartache always showed true dignity, respect for the fans and passion for the club. As I've said before his goals and assists stand up well alongside anyone else in his position post premier and I thank him for being someone who actually cared.....we've not had many of them in recent times have we?! I wish the guy nothing but the best for his future career...From what I've seen so far this season he will be missed.

Then they'd really be struggling with his one goal every 43 games average in the championship.

Stevenage away winner.
Equaliser in JPT.
Half way line goal at Rotherham.
Overhead kick at Hartlepool.
Single handedly tearing Birmingham.

What other bloody exciting moments has he given us, there's a lot!

That goal at Rotherham was a bit special. I'll always remember being 1-0 down at the Arsenal a few months ago. We weren't playing that well. One or two of the younger players looked a bit like rabbits in the headlights. They'd just conceded a goal to a team of international players worth tens of millions of pounds who were being watched by 60000 people. Baker picked up the ball. Ran 50, 60 maybe 70 yards taking on those players worth 10s of millions of pounds. Beat them all bar the keeper who had to pull off a worldie of a save. From the BBC online commentary: "Meanders past Mesut Ozil, then 3 more Arsenal men. Great save. Nearly one of the all time FA Cup goals there. Ricky Villa, eat your heart out".

Yes it didn't go in and we conceded another 3 (tiredness was a factor) but it was enough to show to the younger lads it was doable and you could say it lifted the whole team. Remember how much praise the remaining hour's performance received?

Hi CJ. When the stats can make a player look poor when he leaves our club they will be used as proof. When a player joins our club with poor stats they mean nothing as they can do well for our club

Thanks for everything in difficult times Baker and good luck for the future.

He was like Marmite to me like him or loathe him, , I loathed him, every game he'd fook up several times and i'd be swearing and holding my head in my hands ...brilliant runs forward and brilliant goals, but...gave away scores of needless free kicks, giving the ball away getting tackled far too easily, hot headed, usually out of position, meaning the LB was a weak point, chringeworthy comments on the radio, never a captain in my eyes.

Good league two player, hope he gets a club soon, just far too inconsistant at this level, good luck to him.

For a player that weren't a part of pressleys plans either he could sit out his contract or try and find a new club

He wasn't a legend but a good hardworking player who was better than most in our poor league one squad.
im sorry to bang the drum but our owners will not invest anything in this club and are pocketing whatever they can.

another free no one els wants signing on their way no doubt.

someone said on here a while ago that you sign league 1 players and you play in league 1.
thats the truth of the matter until we get owners who want to run a football club and not a money grab for their shareholders.

Good luck Baker you were a good club servant who scored some great goals in what has otherwise been seasons of decline

I think you are confusing me with most others on here who use it to lambast any new signings we make.

Ultimately though stats don't really lie - not over a period of such length.

Carl Baker loved the club, took the armband with great pride and leadership and never says a bad word against the club but not to sound harsh, these reasons are not reasons to keep a player. At the end of the day, he is getting on, slowed right down and was only putting in 1/4 decent performances. His supposedly high wages have always been in question so I think it makes sense to move him on. He is a top bloke, does a lot for charity and majority of City fans have plenty of respect for him but I think it is time he moves on.

His stats are very similar to Dave Bennett's, and 'Benno' is liked and we'll regarded not just because of the cup final; but because he was a steady, decent player at the level he plied his trade, and always had time for the fans. In this day, there's a lot to be said for a player with a family who wants to settle in the area and be a decent (not stella) performer for the club. Yet you can't wait to deride the fella.

Indeed, when I look at what you post on this other forums, and look at the terminology you use to express your thoughts with regards Baker, and then Fisher; I'm astonished. Actually, make that no, I'm not...

I don't get this Baker love-in, very very average player. The fact there's a rumour that he's going to Northampton (bang average league 2 team) says it all. Just beacuase he's lauded as some kind of legend on facebook, doesn't mean he can still do it on the field,

Thing is he is was an average player in a below average team

The talk of letting him go because of high wages is misplaced, if you are paying someone far more than they are worth the damage is done, unless you find someone else willing to pay well over the odds then you are stuck and are going to suffer the damage whatever. By releasing him we suffer most of the damage of the high wages and don't have the player to use, it's only a good idea if he wasn't even good enough to be backup and we know that isn't true.

Just posted on Bakers Facebook.

Fair play to him

Wow we're do i start!!

After a long few hours late last night I decided to agree terms with Cov to terminate my contract. Obviously my first choice option was to stay and fight for my position but it was made very clear that I wasn't going to play and anyone who knows me will no that sitting in the stands all season is not an option for me and career wise it would be the right decision for me and my fam to move on and start a new chapter and challenge in my life which I'm excited about.
This is a great club full of great people who do unbelievable work and are unsung heroes behind the scenes, I honestly don't have a bad word to say about anyone at the club I have met and made some great friends who I'll hopefully always keep in touch with.
This past 4/5 years have flew by for me and can honestly say I have loved every minute of it, that's mainly down to the best fans in the country the amount of support and good luck messages I've had is overwhelming and very much appreciated thank you all so much for making my time here so special for me and my family.
One of the proudest moments in my life was to wear the armband against arsenal away in front of so many fans, to captain a club of this size from were I have come from fighting since the age of 16 to survive having nothing and earning £50 a week for years with a young child is amazing for me. I'd also like to thank my wife Lynsey and the two best boys ever Louis and jaden future Cov players ha they have been on the journey with me all the way and always been there for me through good and bad, like they say behind every good man is a good women.
Lastly I'd like to wish everyone at the club, staff, players and fans all the very best I'm so happy the club is back home to the Ricoh finally and hope this can be the driving force to get fans back on board and help the team get back to wear they belong ‪#‎PUSB‬
Ps - anyone got any jobs going lol x

A truly average footballer in his first three seasons with us (3 goals in 80 games). He found his level in league one. This coincided with him hitting the age of 28/29 and ultimately peaking as a footballer. The first season in league one he was terrific (As were several others Murphy, Adams, Christie, Bailey, Moussa and DMC). Last season his figures were reduced which suggests he is on the decline. In all honesty I would only keep him as an impact player off the bench, O'Brien and Swanson are much more talented footballers and given time and used correctly will show this. People talk about him being committed and leading fervently, this is what I would expect from anyone playing for City (it's not a quality, it's a requirement as a footballer). I can't see him joining anyone but a mid to low table league one club or even dropping lower into league 2/conference.
Thanks Carl for the one season in which everything came right for one of the most inconsistent footballers I've ever watched.

Good Luck to him.

Players come and players go that's the way of football. My assessment of him is more positive than negative. The one thing that I don't think you could doubt is that he gave what he had to give every time he played for CCFC and the fans. Did it always work out no. Sometimes frustrating some times showing glimpses of class, not usually one of the worst on the pitch. Not the best player we have ever had but no where near the worst. His attitude/passion for the team & fans seems to me to have been better than most. Lets be honest had he been some sort of minor superstar he wouldn't have been playing for CCFC very long now would he. I also have questions about how managers used him but that's all done really isn't it. Good luck at your next club Carl.

The way his departure has been handled or portrayed I think has been pretty poor. That's the bit that irritates me in all this.
