As a more "casual" fan of the sport, I have to say I do know quite a few people who tend to stay away from football due to its poor image from the players and fans alike. Whenever you turn on match of the day, you can bet you'll hear a few abusive chants from the fans. The fans aren't all to blame though. A lot of footballers act like bloody school children on and off the pitch. Hardly the role model parents want there kids to follow is it..
I go to the ice hockey a lot and any sort of abusive behaviour from fans, and you get a warning; anymore and your out. We still sing plenty of songs and chants that poke fun of other teams/players etc without the need for swearing etc. on the ice, the players can and do loose there cool. It's the nature of the sport. The difference is mind, that what the refs says, goes! And if you don't like it, he can and will, throw you out the game. If you protest, you get hefty match bans that make you think twice as you'll let the coach, team and fans down. The system works.

Small part of the sport. Fights aren't as frequent as people like to think they are. Think I saw about 3 fights last season..
Also, if you followed and understood the sport, you'd know why/how etc they allow it. Again though, teams are penalised for it.
But if football players were fighting for whatever reason they would get a long ban. Just touching a player gets you a red card and a 3 game ban. You say fighting goes with the game. Some would say swearing on the odd occasion goes with football. Are both right? Are both wrong?

Secondly I have 7 kids. My eldest is 26. My youngest is two. Is there anything you think you can tell me about kids?
If you are at Yeovil you will be able to meet my 24 year old lad.....24 yesterday that is. He is on leave from the army from Friday and meeting me there. Too late to get him a ticket, but will be having a few jars with me......the one I have mentioned about on here a few times......the Motherwell fan Try telling me that he is like me. The eldest 4 are all adults now. None of them have been in any trouble of any kind. You may get the rare swearword out of him, but that is it.
My eldest is 26 and an accountant. She was headhunted by a large company last year. She is the youngest in her large office, but recently got put in charge of it.
My 19 year old lad is training as a mechanic, and is well ahead of where he should be.
My 18 year old lad is at Uni.
My 10 year old daughter took her SATS 2 years early at 9. Her lowest section of it put her at the level that an 11 year old should be at. Her best section put her where a 14 year old should be at.
The youngest two are 2 and 3. No idea yet
Not bad I suppose for having a father that is known to swear.
Our ground is big enough to have a swearing section. No kids or people easily offended allowed. We could call it block xxxx
