I think our away support is and always has been very very good, our home support since the Ricoh arrived has been awful.

I think none of us enjoy going there because we know its not our stadium and we are just tenants, until this changes the club is in limbo and we wont move forward. At Highfield road we would sing " main stand giz a song" "sky blue giz a song" this just wouldn't happen at the Ricoh.

I know we cant keep going on about this stadium but it has been the most detrimental thing to this club in living history.

We didn't own highfield rd at the end though. And the ricoh has a lot more atmosphere than other grounds I've been to round the country. I also went to an awful lot of games at highfield road where you could hear a pin drop. The Only thing that creates an atmosphere is a winning team.

At times yes it was quiet all grounds are but i have memories from every season at that ground. Technically it might not have been ours but it certainly felt like it was.

Plus the majority of the time at highfield road was in the top flight the matches were a better standard. The players were better. The away team bought more fans all this makes for better atmosphere

I think the main reason none of us like going because the football and results are very very poor.

Its not just the ground.. the whole match day experience is different isn't it? Public transport as a default, enforced parking regs as an unpalletable option, sterile walk up(not atmospheric streets).. maybe I am an old romantic.. but give me the opportunity to park in the side street.. meander my way through side roads and streets, call in at a local off licence/shop.. or a pub on a corner close to the ground... its just not the same.. and I take all points about a winning team being a fundamental to the matchday experience.. but its just not the same...the Ricoh remains a very soulless bowl and suspect it always will irrespective of team performance.

Its the old sky blue specs again. Highfield Road was generally not that great and the atmosphere was generally crap. I sat in the East Stand and the amount of times I'd look at the West Terrace appearing to be singing something and moving their arms about was a bit embarrassing at times. You certainly could rarely hear it from my end of the ground and I'm sure it was the same at their end listening to silence from my end. No one in the main stand ever said a word and the away fans were always louder than us. Yes I have great memories from seeing some good games and some decent players. That's the only real problem with the Ricoh. It's marred by the fact it's more likely to be a league 2 ground soon than a championship one and sitting in a big ground with no one in it is depressing to say the least.

Elephant ears, the away support thing is a myth put about. The numbers are often very poor considering the size of Coventry, some much smaller towns have bigger followings. Also the away support 'experience' is fine if you are about 25/30, like drinking and pie eating and abusing your own players. Sure there are some decent people amongst the away crowd (and I applaud you people) but they are often drowned out by drunken, fat blokes who hardly know where they are and often aren't even watching the game. When I go to away games I sit on the sides, away from all that.
Don't like the Ricoh much either, moving there from a central location was a massive mistake and will cost the club for years, barring some miracle turnaround.

A major problem with the Ricoh is the design, it is basically a 3 sided stadium. Atmosphere will never be that good until it is addressed.
Highfield rd was a compact ground, which despite its faults which much better for atmosphere.

To be fair, highfield road was also 3 sided. Thee was absolutely no atmosphere in the main stand.

The best thing about HR was how close the away fans were to the home fans, now we fill the away stand from the far end so there's always 2-3+ blocks between the away fans and home fans.

Filling them from the block nearest the home fans would see an immediate improvement in the atmosphere.

The Ricoh's atmosphere isnt as good as Highfield Road's. At away games you have die-hard City fans who just wanna cheer their team on. At the Ricoh, you get a bunch of glory hunters who boo if one of the lads misplace a pass. Hate to sa it but our away support is lot better than our home support, especially this year
