Four Southend fans asked a group of us standing outside the Three Horse Shoes pub last night if it was okay for them to come inside for a drink ? I said no problem as they seemed a bit nervous. They were a great set of lads but said they'd been told to watch themselves as we weren't the most friendly to visiting supporters.I was surprised to hear that as I thought we had a reputation these days as being fine to away fans as long as they weren't looking for trouble ? Or have we ?

I guess it depends where they are going and the type of people frequenting them.

God knows where they heard that. I don't think there is any pub I wouldn't recommend to an away fan.

They enquired about the Wheatsheaf but were told best stay in here but I've seen away fans in there and it's been okay.

There is a website that goes into detail what pubs etc to drink in and what the home fans are like. They got their mindset I think from that ?

Talking of the Southend Fans I thought they did themselves proud last night. Not just in terms of noise made but also numbers. I really wasn't expecting that.

I thought it was overkill on stewards until I saw the team run out in their away strip.

Saw 5 lads running over canal bridge all about 17 & must have been Southend fans being pursued by 3 chavs. Little wonder we have a rep with younger fans.

Me too we were guessing before the game at how many they'd bring,I said a few hundred so was surprised when I saw their decent turn out in the ground.

I have seen and know of many older fans who do the fair share of trouble making at coventry games especially away .
Bit easy to just suggest its all young idiots ..when it's not .
And on to the main point , i think most places are generally welcoming of away fans in coventry now tbh .

Southend brought a fair few last night but most would of had tickets I imagine for the saturday as a few were annoyed they had booked travel.

Decent support mind, and fair play to them, unsure why they seemed nervous coming here, they had a little bit of a rep themselves in league two last year ( younger generation mind)

I can only remember Swindon where that was a bit of a bust up? Aren't Swindon well known for attacking fans who went to watch the game instead of fans who want a tear up?

I enjoy meeting up with other fans for a chat and drink, especially when we go away. Although we do meetsome in casino before the game I can honestly say that it's rare I see any sort of hassles at home.

It's a far cry from the days of old, you will always get some wannabes but generally it's all fairly civilised these days. Most of the pubs around CV6 are pretty bloody awful, they don't exactly look inviting to home fans, never mind visitors. The main reason for me why the train stop shambles is so disappointing.

I don't give a fuck where I drink. There could be shit dripping down the walls and be stood in a foot puddle of piss surrounding by dullards as long as the pint I'm drinking is good. Too many publicans have no fucking idea when it comes to a perfect serve. Problem is these pubs are near impossible to find even though the cost to drink out is relatively high.

In the 70's and 80's I honestly can't remember talking to any away fan when they came to Highfield Road as it wasn't the done thing, they were seen as the enemy. But as I matured and realized they were just fans like me I have had some great chats with fans from many clubs over a few beers. In fact I've got friends of clubs like Norwich,Bournemouth,Bristol City,,and even from Forest Green.

Just been working out the safest route for my kids to walk to their new school, I'm tempted by a couple of Southend away shirts to help keep them safe over the crossings !

Most away fans stick to the casino.
