Average age of the squad (1 Viewer)

I was thinking that as a few of our more senior players have left over the summer (King, Carsley, McIndoe), we must have quite a young squad. Therefore, I decided, in a loserish fasion, to work out the average age of the squad. The average age is 23.54, with only 1 player aged 30 or above.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Surely there's a good chance that we could have the youngest squad in the league?

Ages:

Joe Murphy - 29
Richard Keogh - 24
Chris Hussey - 22
Sammy Clingan - 27
James McPake - 27
David Bell - 27
Carl Baker - 28
Lukas Jutkiewicz - 22
Freddy Eastwood - 27
Gary McSheffrey - 28
Gary Deegan - 23
Chris Dunn - 22
Martin Cranie - 24
Ben Turner - 22
Clive Platt - 32
Danny Ireland - 22
Richard Wood - 26
Jordan Clarke - 19
Roy O'Donovan - 25
Nathan Cameron - 19
Callum Wilson - 19
Josh Ruffles - 17
Conor Thomas - 17
Gael Bigirimana - 17

Might have to re-calculate that before the window closes, it'll be the youth team on the park. They'll be selling anyone worth anything in the next few weeks if the emergency loan is anything to go by!

Hopefully that'll be even lower when Platt is moved on :)

Tbh I'm amazed at Wood's age. I had no idea he was still only 26. He looks older and seems to have been around for ages. I woudl have guessed at 30.

Also I think we should move one of the centre halves on. I had assumed McPake was younger and as he is a player I've always liked, I would have got rid of Wood, but with so many injuries for McPake and now knowing wood is younger I think I would rather keep RW as he covers left back and fits into AT's style btter (although I'm bnot sure if he'll be happy bench warming). However, I assume as always wages and whether we can get a fee for either will dictate.

Wood will be on higher wages and would command a bigger fee, so I'd sooner move him on, even though I prefer him to McPake.

I've always been a big fan of McPake, so despite the fact Woody can cover left-back, i'd be inclined to let Wood go. Nothing against him though either. He's a good defender and a really nice guy.

I can't see how Wood would (ho ho!) be any more suited to AT's style than McPake; he really is our number 1 donkey and main hoof-ball culprit. McPake is also a much more solid defender all-round, just really injury prone. I'd assume that a signing from a big club like Sheff Wed (their skipper, no less) is on a fair wack more than a guy from then-2nd Scottish tier Livingstone, too.

Does anyone know when Woods contract expires? We'd struggle to recoup what we spent on him now I expect. I'd wager he was more responsible for goals conceded through individual errors than any other defender last season. And rather than seeing him as "a threat in the air" from corners, I tend to see him more as the guy who constantly missed the target when unmarked at corners! A compilation from CWR last season would reveal a lot of "Oh, and Wood really should have at least hit the target there.." clips from Clive and Geoff.

He is a nice bloke from what I've heard, but nice men don't always win at football.

I'd probably go along with that aswell mate. Wood is a decent defender, but McPake is far more solid. He reads the game better, is stronger and better in the tackle.

Oh and Wood's contract expires at the end of the 12/13 season.

That ll bring the old buggers out the closet

I got that :p I can picture the video for our version..footage of our all-teenage side being decimated.

Goals raining down, not napalm.
