Apparently we're linked with this Australia defender who assisted Cahills stunning volley against holland in the world cup. Sounds like a load of bollocks to me, Like he'll join a struggling league 1 club and SISU will buy a world cup player. http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...news/rumour-mill-coventry-city-linked-8424379

Didn't Che Bunce have a blinder at a WC a few years ago
Now if we were to sign Cahill it would be equivalent to getting Dennis Wise In

Why did the Telegraph highlight the fact that he marked David Villa in their game against Spain when Villa scored in that game? They even include a picture of him scoring.

Close to happening according to telegraph

http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...ews/look-coventry-city-close-striking-8480953

Coventry City are closing in on a defender who played in last summer’s World Cup and provided an assist for one of the iconic goals of the competition.
The Sky Blues are tracking Aussie Ryan McGowan who cut his teeth with Hearts in the Scottish Premier League before switching to Shandong Luneng Taishan of the Chinese Super League where he’s out of contract and available on the free transfer.
However, the 6ft 3inch tall 25-year-old who has 12 caps for Australia, will come at a price in terms of wages and it remains to be seen whether City can contrive a package to tempt him back to the UK.

He is understood to be keen to hook up with the Sky Blues where he has connections with manager Steven Pressley and his staff but the club would need to offload players surplus to requirements to make funds available.
Strong and athletic, McGowan is as comfortable as a right-sided centre-half as he is at right-back and football fans may recall his deep cross for Tim Cahill’s sublime volley in the Socceroos’ 3–2 group stage defeat by The Netherlands.
He played in all three matches for his country in Brazil 2014, given the job of marking David Villa in the final group game against Spain, which they lost 3-0.

Adelaide-born to Scottish parents who come from Glasgow, McGowan started out as a youth team player at Hearts while City boss Pressley was an established first team player and skipper.
He was looked after by City’s Under-21s boss Darren Murray who was head of youth development at Tynecastle and oversaw the defender’s development after he arrived from Down Under as a teenager.
He established himself as captain of the Under-19s and his best season for the Jambos in the SPL was in 2011–12 when he scored three goals – including one in the 127th Scottish Cup Final against Hibs which Hearts won 5–1 – and winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award.

Is he any good on football manager? Was he good enough 10 years ago to be a Scottish international? Is he slow? Is he an all round carthorse?

If so, he sounds perfect for us.....

He's big enough nowadays, although the ball might sneak through the gaps in his teeth.

I would the a GK with experience is priority, but the like's of Kirkland and Murphy's come's at a cost that maybe out of price range... So world cup star!!! will have to wait until either a player is sold or players are shown the door... The one thing that stands out is between SW and SP they have made a right mess of this squad and now are trying to plug multiple gaps with no real backing to do it... Players like Pugh, Swanson, 3 Bournemouth lads, and Tudgay have been a complete waste of time and money the pair have a lot to answer for..

He's a good player with UK experience. Asian Cup is only played every 4 years and the Australian national team play most of their friendlies in Europe (due to having so many players based there). Is keen to play regular first team but wages may well be a big stumbling block. Shame would love to see him in a Sky Blue shirt - anf not f**king Sydney United!

Does not matter how good he is. Pressley will soon fix that by either (a) Never playing him, (b) Playing him out of position, or (c) Bringing him on as a substitute in the 88th minute.

From the Beeb;

Former Hearts defender Ryan McGowan is expected to sign for Dundee United later on Friday.
It is understood the 25-year-old, who represented Australia at the 2014 World Cup, is at Tannadice to discuss terms.
McGowan, who most recently played for Chinese club Shandong Luneng Taishan, is likely to undergo a medical this afternoon.
