It's only because of 2 poor away followings recently, that we aren't top already.
The crowds at Championship level are outstanding. Go back to our last year in the Championship before relegation. The likes of Leeds and Leicester only averaging 23,000.
Boro only 17,000 and ourselves as low as 15k.

That’s really interesting. I wonder what that is down to? In a time where cost of living has roared and people supposedly have less money in the pocket
We had better crowds in the 70’s so I’m told…Derby's is pretty impressive, have they historically had a good following? They havent exactly had much success in recent seasons.
Given how things are going at Leicester we must be in with a very good chance of topping that list soon
Yes, we were the best supported Midlands club in the early 70s getting more than the Villa who were on a downward cycle. We had better crowds in the 70’s so I’m told…
Yeah, Leeds ripped all the seats out at Highfield Rd.And …All seater stadia was pioneered by us. Hooliganism was my bug-bear. I got fed up avoiding claret and blue, red and white.

I think it's because while there's more football than ever on TV, people understand how good it is to be there in person.
A bit like gigs. You can listen to any song now, but you can't replace the feeling of being there.
My two penneth is it's still a hangover from covid. People REALLY missed going to the football, and watching it on TV with no crowds or atmosphere was just shit so we all flocked back afterwards. And once you've caught the bug again it's difficult to give up, even if your wallet's being squeezed elsewhere. That’s really interesting. I wonder what that is down to? In a time where cost of living has roared and people supposedly have less money in the pocket

King needs to take note. I guess he doesn’t consider what other clubs fans think nowadays? There's a few obvious reasons why we're doing well on the attendance front to be fair.
We've been relatively successful over the last few years compared to the depths of the Sisu years. That in itself brings more of a feel good factor and will bring more people to the table.
W&$ps went bust. Them owning the ground was truly dreadful and seeing their logos plastered all over the place, coinciding with us being at rock bottom, meant the CBS/Ricoh wasn't a great place to be.
And that also links with identity. The last 5 years has seen a huge improvement in our identity. I think amongst other fanbases, we're nicely looked upon as a club who have had bad times in the last 10-15 years and a lot of fan bases genuinely wish us well because of that. I think we've gone further than that...owning the stadium now, having two great managers in succession, playing food football, a passionate fanbase, being run a lot more professionally, the FA Cup SF vs Utd and that comeback and rendition of WLADITT....it all points to increased attendances.
A lot of pride in being a CCFC fan at the minute. Long may it continue.
Remember a thread on here where there were lots of posters saying we will never be a big club and will never fill the then Ricoh.Thinking back around ten years ago, perhaps even sooner, I would never have thought I'd see us averaging 30,000 in my lifetime. It's quite incredible really.

Based on the Telegraph's report,Surprised we didn't hit 30K last night. Anybody know how many Sheff U sold?
They bought around 1700 .Surprised we didn't hit 30K last night. Anybody know how many Sheff U sold?
True. Otherwise, Norwich were about 100 shy of selling out their allocation, but no one else has come close.Pretty sure the only time away fans have sold out their allocation is when we’ve changed them £45
No chance they brought that many. Probably the lowest away following of the season so far. Blocks 6 & 9 were empty, 8 was only full at the front. Block 7 was about 80% full. They bought around 1700 .
I think the fact that the Championship is now considered to be one of the most entertaining leagues in the world may have something to do with it.That’s really interesting. I wonder what that is down to? In a time where cost of living has roared and people supposedly have less money in the pocket
I can confirm that having heard Big Ron say the same in an after dinner speech. On the subject of attendances, interesting to learn that Big Ron was on £1 per person in attendance over a base figure (13000?)

Jim Brown recent podcast with Richardson

On the subject of that podcast, they were a bit up BR's arse and his version of events isn't at all how I recall them, although in fairness to Jim, if he wasn't nice to him then there's no way he would answer any of the questions. It was quite an interesting listen though and particularly the piece about Jarni. Still not sure I believe it and assume we already had that deal sorted unless BR was hoodwinked too, but a nice anecdotal tale all the same.
