The crowds at Championship level are outstanding. Go back to our last year in the Championship before relegation. The likes of Leeds and Leicester only averaging 23,000.
Boro only 17,000 and ourselves as low as 15k.

Derby's is pretty impressive, have they historically had a good following? They havent exactly had much success in recent seasons.

Given how things are going at Leicester we must be in with a very good chance of topping that list soon

It's only because of 2 poor away followings recently, that we aren't top already.

Which will continue unfortunately. Albion sales are poor, Bristol City won't bring many for a Cat A in December, and there will be very few Swansea fans. Expect Charlton to bring a load though.

That’s really interesting. I wonder what that is down to? In a time where cost of living has roared and people supposedly have less money in the pocket

I think it's because while there's more football than ever on TV, people understand how good it is to be there in person.

A bit like gigs. You can listen to any song now, but you can't replace the feeling of being there.

We had better crowds in the 70’s so I’m told…

Yes, we were the best supported Midlands club in the early 70s getting more than the Villa who were on a downward cycle.
This followed the Jimmy Hill revolution when we had over £51K against Wolves and possibly more against Sunderland in the cup when supporters broke a gate down.
Our first two seasons in the top flight had high attendances. 37k and 34k come to mind.
What screwed us was not employing Clough who said we were a bigger club than Derby despite their success.
We got Cantwell who changed Jimmy Hill's free scoring approach to total defence. We struggled and crowds dropped off.
Then hooliganism came along which meant attendances plummeted everywhere,

And …All seater stadia was pioneered by us. Hooliganism was my bug-bear. I got fed up avoiding claret and blue, red and white.
Yeah, Leeds ripped all the seats out at Highfield Rd.
We were ahead of the curve too soon with an all seater.
In a biography of Robinson, it says he tipped off McGinnity about impending all seater stadiums and our lifetime President until his demise made a mint.
