Attendances dropping (1 Viewer)

Our attendances are steadily dropping this season. I know we have only had 3 games at home so far but I'm wondering if the fair-weather supporters who enjoyed the promotion last season are beginning to wain already?

I also question the attendance figures in any case - I think these are worked out on tickets sold not people attending so I think you could probably take 10% off the published attendances anyway.
I know the start has been indifferent to say the least, but I'm hoping that now the holidays are over (season ticket holders missing games due to being away etc etc) and if we can see the team start to get the results we know they are capable of, we might see this trend reverse and the numbers increase.
The lads seem to be working hard and they certainly deserve our support that's for sure!

Positive results will maintain/increase the support. Frustrating games like Saturday won't help, but I think a lot will stick with it. We face a tough run of games which may not help if results go the wrong way, but having had 2 trips to Wembley and some great games home and away over the last 16 months or so, you'd have to be a bit of a fairweather fan to have felt cheated by the club/team in terms of recent excitement.

First couple of games are always higher attendances. People looking to get the kids out of the house during the summer holiday. I didn't think 10,000 was too bad on Saturday considering Rochdale bought very few away fans.

10% seems an extremely high figure, based on those numbers then 1k didn’t turn up?

Buying my Bristol Rovers tickets now. It's £20 for standing without a roof, £24 quid to sit in a tiny stand with no facilities and a tent for a roof. Our prices are not particularly high.

The 6/12 match packages are a good idea by the club which takes ticket price <£20. Obviously everyone's budget is different but I would say not bad price in modern terms for L1.

I think our prices are about average for League One however I think our facilities are probably the best.
Got to agree with Liquid Gold - compare what we have at The Ricoh compared to the rest and we are streets ahead!
Gillingham was a scaffold with no cover (we all got very wet!) and Wimbledon away reminded me of the League 2 grounds from last season.
Certainly no casino or selection of real ales to choose from!

Attendances seem like a unique barometer to football - (can’t think of too many other sports that it matters that much) it gives bragging rights throughout the leagues “our club is bigger than your club” etc etc although Accrington knocked that on the head last season!

It will be purely results. A few wins and it will start creeping up again in my opinion.

Our attendances will rise at least for the next home 3 games 2nd 3rd and 4th in the league coming all take about 1,500 away with them .Just hope they all leave the 3 points behind when they leave

We are just a badly supported club full stop .
For the size of the city of Coventry our support is ridiculous .
People talk about cost etc etc but we are barely any different from anybody else .
As the years have gone by what I’ve noticed is this city doesn’t really care about its football club , over half probably support a premier league side , others go watch Wasps and a lot just don’t like football .
Sunderland have magnificent support , Portsmouth have good support , we are rivalling smaller towns or cities like Barnsley and Luton for support .

A lot of people drifted away over the years, and weren't replaced by new blood. There are a lot of youngsters who don't support local teams any more. They'd rather support a random club in the PL than their local club, because there's no glitz and glamour at our level. And the year in exile didn't help matters, either. I know a lot of people who didn't renew their season tickets at that point, and just didn't go back. Factor in the economics (£25-ish a ticket) and I think we actually do well to get the numbers we do.

I'm not so sure it is a myth tbh. I live on the outskirts of Coventry, and I probably know 10x the number of people who support Man Utd or Liverpool compared to the City. I get family allegiances come into play, but Mancs and Liverpudlians can't be responsible for the level of procreation required to get to those sort of numbers.

As for not having the glitz of the PL, I remain convinced that once a kid goes to his first game at the City the connection to the club is made irrespective of league. I've taken my 7 year old son to some pretty crap games where we've lost and he's still enjoyed it. Just need more families through the door (which I appreciate is not cheap).

Little twat in my daughters class apparently saw her lunchbox last year and said "coventry are rubbish" but I had to leave the room before I gave her step by step instructions on what to do / say next time a little kid who has never been to a football match in his life gave it loads.

My favourite one as a kid was "I will take you a picture next time I am at Old Trafford", that doesn't work now we aren't in the Premier League.

I think if a parent is a city fan they can't really moan if their kids aren't if they don't at least try to take them to games and get them involved.
