We could get promoted and Preston relegated with us having lost more league games than Preston. Surely that has never happened before?!

Preston have also scored the same amount of goals as Millwall - essentially 1 per game, yet Millwall are going for playoffs too.

then you start to think along the same lines, should a club get promotion to premier league if they’ve lost 37% of their matches in the championship….
Sheff utd lost 10, Bristol and Sunderland 11. We’re the worst in the current top 7.

But it's a good league, not much between the sides apart from the top 3 of course

What would it be under the old 2 points/win. before JH changed things? The game is more exciting now.

God I hope they go down, if I never have to go to Deepdale again then I would lose absolutely zero sleep

Jimmy still looking after us.
To be fair though, it’s a good thing. Teams that settle for draws and timewaste deserve to be lower than teams that go for it.

Yep them, Cardiff and Plymouth are three long trips. Hopefully if we don't go up, then Sunderland or Boro make it.

If we get enough points to get promoted, we "deserve" to get promoted.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t, of course, we’d ’deserve’ it.
but it’s just the quirk of the playoffs isn’t it. You can finish nearly 30 points behind the top three and still go up having lost as many games as you’ve won.

I remember some pundit years ago suggesting a team wouldn’t be ready if they’ve lost that many games. Can’t remember who it was.

All changed now though hasn’t it - could go the whole season without losing, get to prem and chances are you’re coming down again.

Not really sure it's a crazy stat.

Somebody could draw every game and finish on 46 and be relegated while being unbeaten.

That's the inherent unfairness of the play-off system, created to provide more entertainment and generate more cash, which it undoubtedly does. You'd still feel a bit cheesed off finishing third, miles ahead of the chasing pack.

You get a few complaints from the team in third every year but the league would be wank without the playoffs.

apart from the relegation race the season would have been done by about November for most teams.

I think Leicester were close to that when they wererelegated to L1 as they had one of the lowest goals against in the the league

I never understand why. Sure they've been superior to teams below them, but not good enough to make the top 2 which is the aim. It's not as if the rules change midway through. We all know the options from the start and I'd be saying the same if we were 3rd. I think it's just managers who want an excuse ready and I really hope of all people that Wilder needs one.

We all know the rules before the season starts. We don't think it's shite for the team that finishes 3rd before the season starts. The first aim is to finish in the top 2. The minimum aim is the top 6.

Just a couple of games ago every club in the Championship could still either reach the playoffs or get relegated. Much better than being a mid table or above with 1/5 of the season to go and nothing to play for if it was just the top 3 that went up.

I’m not moaning about it, just saying and making some observations, that’s all.

I’ll be ecstatic if Sheffield utd fuck it up in the playoffs.
And it’s their own fault for buying players they couldn’t afford.

There is basically nothing between the teams at the bottom and the teams up to about 4th, it's the same every season. A lot of teams for large parts of the season are a good/bad run of form from either a playoff tilt or a relegation scrap.

It's such a good league.

Draws are overrated by many football fans.

If we won 23 and lost 23, you’d have 69 points whereas 0-46-0 would only be 46 points. The former is playoff form, the other is relegation. So you could, in theory, get relegated if you went the whole season undefeated.

Shows how poor the league is. The top 3 teams are good and the rest are all very similar. There's not even a whipping boy this season.

Exactly and even Sunderland have tailed off massively since their rapid start. In fact, I’ll put a cheeky 5-10a on 5th place (hopefully us) beating them over the two legs in the playoffs.

It’s not a poor league though, is it? It’s highly competitive and the cliche that anyone can beat anyone on their day is true.

It shows how competitive the league is, not poor. Over 2 games per team this year I've not seen a team I thought was that bad. Plymouth under Rooney aside they're all capable teams, a few impressive teams and then the parachute sides skewing things at the top end

It's a pick-em. Patchy form all over the place, I would not be surprised if Blackburn snuck in.

I watched a bit of the Boro game this weekend, they seem the sort of team we can get about and cause a problem or two!

We’ve already got about the easiest away travel in the whole league. I enjoy the longer journeys. Thankfully we not located at the extremes Plymouth closest match is 2 hours from them. Norwich spend their first two hours on the A14 or the A47 that’s hard being an away fan.

Arguably it would be fairer if 3rd got a bye to the final. Not as exciting or raise as much revenue though.

Plymouth on the bank holiday was a good day out, I wish I’d made a weekend of it tbh.

The Monday and Friday nights away to Hull in consecutive season… they can fuck off to L1 even if they do have a great fish and chips!

Scumberland are not daft, they’ve been in the playoffs for a while and resting players .
