Hopefully makes England more focused and determined going forward. Whatever the result it's still England's mistakes and sloppiness making these 1st 2 Tests more difficult than they could be.

Think Broad could be wearing a few after his verbals

All this slating of ‘bazball’ is bizarre. As mentioned before, something like one win in 14 before Stokes/McCullum came in and 12 in 15 or 16 after, playing some exciting/fun cricket. We’ll probably lose this test and I’d imagine probably the ashes against a very good Australia team, with the top three batsmen in the world and a better attack.

All people have got to ask themselves is how many English lads would get in the Australia team (root, stokes and broad maybe…duckett at a massive push based on innings in this game) ? Even considering that they’ll probably only be two up because of our dropped catches, poor/unlucky spells of bowling when conditions were in our favour and a couple of individual horrific/brainless shots…not because of ‘bazball’

The same people in the media bitching about bazball probably complain about Southgate’s more cautious approach in football

Isn't it more to do with the fact that you have to know when to and when not to apply it ?

Yep. Pick your moments.stokes now a good example. Last proper batsmen so how does he bat with the tail?

Exactly. It was player errors. They didn’t get told to try to hit every bouncer, it was just a chaotic passage of play and players lost their heads.

I think Aussie arses might just show the first signs of going from this point.

Aussies making poor decisions, us getting some luck, Stokes still in with a tailender…

I hate "Bazball". I love cricket and have done all my life, but I don't particularly like T20. Bazball is making Test cricket more like T20-I like the slow tactical game, not the fast game with "we just made up this tactic, good innit?" arrogance. It may well be making the game more popular with people who like cricket, but I already liked it so had nothing to gain
.
As for the merits of it-it has some, but the obstinance of sticking to plans when a bit of flexibility is required has bit England already and it will do again. And that 8 down declaration was ridiculous. The modern world is full of dislocated thinking, doing things a certain way because "japes, nobody has ever done it this way before!" But sometimes, that's because the established method is proven to be better.

I would say it is against the Spirit of the Game rule. And for this Aussie team, that is trying to rehabilitate its image after one of the most high-profile cheating incidents in the history of the game a few years ago, that is not a good look.

It is, but Bazball also contains "We will stick to our plan and not back down" as part of it's makeup, so of course there is no real way of turning that off. It wouldn't be "Bazball" if they just did it when it made sense!

It's how the Aussies play and they had looked the better side by far. Until this partnership! Go on Stokesy..

that's not what i said, test cricket needs new fans as worldwide attendances are very low and have been for a while

That's not a good look tbh. Obv the players shouldn't be getting pushed around but if you look at the footage they went over to the members so aren't entirely blameless

Unless something over the line has been of course

I hope so, but logic says not. Only needs one mistake from Stokes, or one absolute peach delivery and it will be all over

I reckon we will lose by about 22 runs.

Close but no cigar.

With you on T20 v 'Long game'. I get the feeling T20 was invented for people who don't like cricket.
It's the only format of the game I dislike - never attended a game, highly unlikely ever to.
Love my rare outings to the cricket for test or one dayers.
One thing I will say tho is that there's more than one way to 'skin a cat'. I'm all for variation on the long game as long as it brings results (at the moment the jury is out, I think)
Apologies to any cat lovers - Not particularly fond of them but I wouldn't dream of skinning one.
It should be made law for Satan's lap dogs to wear a bell on their collar tho.
Over.
