And it's now the clown show. Two fielders going for the exact same catch, result, catch not taken.

I didn't realise that Overton was so slow. Boycott saying he's not quick enough for Australian wickets.

We're there no other candidates for that slot besides Ball?

Think most expected Plunkett to be in the squad, goes for runs but bowls 85mph+ and picks up wickets

Forgot about Plunkett and yeah, it's a surprise he's not in the squad.

Guessing they won't risk Tom Curran.

I think we are really missing Stokes bowling. He is the one that could break up these obstinate partnerships.

Look on the bright side, if we are knocked out of the Ashes, we can concentrate on the League.

He's not in the Lions squad not sure if he's playing anywhere this winter so won't be match fit.

I guess if wood gets through next week of lions games and is at good pace will be in for Perth. They have to pick an out and out quick.

You do wonder how the Aussies keep producing fast 88-90 mph genuine fast bowlers and we only seem to produce 80-84 mph medium fast bowlers. I get that Aussie wickets are quicker and bouncer, but geniune fast bowling causes problems in all conditions.

I think it's all the training they get swimming away from sharks and running away from crocs.

I would point to a big big reason David Saker.
He's an Aussie, a bowling coach and was England bowling coach 2010-2015 England's dominant period and a few quicks knocking about. He left in 2015 now Aus' bowling coach......
Maybe a coincidence.

It's because in England it's all about producing young bowlers who have perfect actions so it produces th same bowler.

How many overs are we likely to face? 20?

My prediction is the loss of 3 wickets and Ashes chances over.

Hope England can dig in.

See case name Steven Finn, youngest or quickest to 50 test wickets in history wasn't it? Odd action yes but it worked bowled 90mph I know what we'll tamper with it, knock all the confidence out of him drop his speed by 10mph.....

Woakes was pushing 89/90 mph at one point and I really thought he’d be the one to crank it up this series. Has looked the same as the others though.

I don't think Woakes is fully fit.

Starc in at 93mph!

Very true. But the Aussie quicks do seem to have accuracy as well as pace. Finn was great but he used to get sprayed around a lot which is why they tampered with his action. Just considering recent bowlers - Lee, Johnson and Starc and Hazelwood now bowl fast but its pretty consistent

Vince out for 2 and Root for 9. It's looking like an innings defeat.
Cook hanging in there - for now.

It'll be a miracle if we get to 200.
Moeen and Bairstow need a double-century each.

This isn't even a contest. It's like a tiger fighting a rabbit.
England may as well go home now.

You know some things are certain in life. You wake up and you know there will be news, you know there will be weather and you know there will be an England batting collapse.

I am guessing if you went to a bookies and asked for the odds on an England batting collapse every test match you would be lucky to be offered odds of 1/eleventy billion.

This message on the BBC sport page sums it up nicely.

Jonny Morgan: Waking up to the Ashes is a bit like leaving a child unattended in the kitchen. There’s a possibility they’ve done something amazing. More likely, everything is a total mess and it’s probably for the best you didn’t see it.

Woke up to no updates on my phone and thought miracles had happened, remembered I turned wicket notifications off so it didn’t ruin it when I was watching. Awful, just awful

Our best batsman top scored though, so that's a bonus.

Thankfully didn’t follow on. Need to take 3 to 4 before end of the day. Bowled too short in 1st innings, need to change that

I think the Aussies should forfeit their 2nd inns might make it interesting!

I reckon they'll declare tomorrow & have about 35/40 overs at England and try rack up 420-450 lead.

Don't think many people were expecting us to win the Ashes but this is a shambles. When your number 9 making his debut is the top scorer something is seriously wrong.

Aussies will be in for the kill now and looking for 5-0.
