He's 26 though, not really a prospect.

Personally I'm worried that last season will prove to be an outlier for a player who's played most of his football in the lower leagues.

How is he useful when he’s probably 4th choice striker right now and looks awkward at best on the wing?

I’m afraid that’s a popular myth. At the time Asante signed we had Simms as our only genuine cf. In midfield we had Allen, Sheaf, Torp, Eccles, Rudoni, Andrews and Lati at a push.

Asante is absolutely terrible he doesn't know what he is doing when he has the ball.Runs round chasing people down very rarely tackles anyone, complete waste of 2 million and his wages.

I'm not going to pretend that Asante is the new Mbappe, but those saying the chance against Norwich was a sitter are (to use a phrase very popular on here lately) making things up to suit an agenda. Yes it was a poor effort but in truth it was an extremely hard chance to convert. The ball's still slowly bouncing from a long throw, and the keeper is virtually on him by the the time he has the chance to strike it. Criticise his general play if you like, but he really didn't cost us that match.

I really want to like this guy. Every time he does an interview he speaks so well, and you can see he tries very hard. Problem is, it isn't producing any end product on the pitch.

That performance against Norwich was one of the worst striker displays I've seen for a while. He looked absolutely lost, and I have no idea why Lampard kept him on for the whole game. I almost felt sorry for him until the two sucker-punches, when the sympathy then turned to disbelief.

I agree not a sitter, but it's how badly he misses a decent chance is the problem. At least make the keeper make a save. He hit it so wide, body and technique was absolutely embarrassing really. Then missing a free header from 5 yards out.. His only (? Or have I forgotten one) goal being that massive deflection looping the keeper... He's just technically awful.

If BTA was a clinical finisher along with his endeavor we would idolize him but then again we wouldn’t have got him from WBA.

I agree with much of this and was amazed that he was kept on and Frank was so positive about his performance afterwards.

my only thought was that perhaps the coaches had spotted how Norwich like to build attacks from their defence and Asante’s off the ball work / positioning was exactly what they had asked him to do to nullify that, it clearly wasn’t his on the ball work.

BTA has the technique of a league 2 player and the physical attributes of a premier league player. Hope he is getting extra support to improve is weaker areas.

Calling a player a c*nt is totally unacceptable. Fans are ridiculous. He had a poor game and hasn't been great but slagging him off like this is not right. I accept he hasn't been good for us but you can't accuse him of not trying, he works really hard. People should reserve their hatred for players who don't try and take the wages. His finish wasn't the best but it only stands out because we had so few chances; if we had 10 chances in the secod half no one would have noticed this one. We should get behind our players and hope they come good.

Doesn’t that depend on how good the player is?
£2m for BTA wasn’t cheap. If Vik was £2m it would be a basement price for the level of ability.

I wonder how much Rashford will go for, hopefully enough to make signing Vik an easy decision.

I see Doug is already downplaying the benefit of a Gyokeres sale, saying quite a chunk will go to Brighton. Quite a few of us thought that commitment had already been dealt with. Sounds like the transfer sell on deal wasn’t quite as good as we thought. Assuming Doug is telling the truth.

Perhaps he isn’t such a good negotiator as has been made out.

Vic isn't going to go for the €80m, maybe €60, that reduces the bonus.

Man Utd transfer: Huge boost as Gyokeres 'agreement' reached amid Bayern 'hijack' reports

Man Utd have been handed a huge boost in their bid to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting as a 'gentleman's agreement' has been reached over his transfer.

That's more whether you get good value.

Even if we spent £2m on an eventual world beater, it would still not be a cheap signing for us. It would just be one that worked out well.

not sure if I’m watching a different game, but BTA has had a good game so far playing up with Simms, and it may also be worth noting how good Simms has been tonight, and part of that might be down to having BTA alongside him…

IMO he’s been shocking. Multiple good opportunities he’s completely wasted. Free in the box and tried to dribble the defender instead of shooting. 2 on 1 counter just then and he couldn’t pick up his head to find Simms in acres of space.

Has offered very little IMO... jogs when he needs to press hard, never wins a second ball and afraid to take a risk on a half chance. gives the opposition plenty of time, it's like he's just going through the motions of it all. he hasn't been awful, just not very good.

I’d suggest it’s more people judging his performance based on their perception of how he’s been so far.

better playing through the middle, rather than as a makeshift winger I think, although yes that header was not great
