Wales v England preview

Wales v England
2012 European Champions qualifying Group G
Venue: Millennium Stadium
Kick Off 3pm ( Saturday 26th March )

England and Wales come together for the first time since September of 2004, when England came away from Cardiff with a 1-0 win in the World Cup Qualifiers. Most of the headlines for the build up has been about Fabio Capello’s pondering over whether or not to take the captaincy permanently from the injured Rio Ferdinand and hand it back to Chelsea’s John Terry.

This has courted all sorts of discussion, as Terry was stripped of the captaincy a year ago surrounding allegations about his personal life. Anyway, that’s all getting beyond the matter at hand, which is there are vital Euro 2012 qualifying points at stake. England drew the favourable group and were expected to go on and win it from the start.

After two strong opening wins against Bulgaria and Switzerland, England were halted in their tracks when an efficient and dogged Montenegro showed up at Wembley last October, and held England to a 0-0 draw. That has left England in second place in Qualifying Group G, three points behind Montenegro, but with a game in hand over them. This makes the trip to Cardiff even more vital for England, as they can’t afford realistically to fall any further behind Montenegro.

But Wales will equally be eager for points, as they look to start clawing their way back into contention in the group.

My Predictions

Score : 1-3 ( Wilshere , Rooney, Lampard )

Formation (4-4-2)

J.Hart
G.Johnson, J.Terry(C), P.Jagielka, A.Cole
M.Jarvis, J.Wilshere, F.Lampard, A.Young
W.Rooney, D.Bent

Any England v Wales banter/ predictions please post here.

Injury update

Rio Ferdinand
Theo Walcott
Steven Gerrard

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has urged Fabio Capello to not pick Andy Carroll who is still finding his way back to full fitness.

A drab 1-1 draw, played out by quite a few drab, over rated, over paid, average players. Of course, most of us want England to win. But i can see Gareth Bale leaving Glen Johnson in a nervous crumpled heap.

I won't be able to see it but I hope England win as it'll be one of those rare occasions that a team I support wins

I have a LOT of Welsh mates, so i'm absolutely desperate for us to win this. Don't think i'd ever live it down if they beat us! Looking forward to it, i do enjoy England internationals.

Also, i was most amused by The Football Ramble's video on the history of the England/Wales rivalry:

All my mams family's from Cork originally, so I will always support the Republic of Ireland, but I suppose because my old dad was an Englishman, I have a very small soft spot for them. But reality rules my prediction on the game and I will predict 2-1 to the Taffs, simply on Englands recent poor showing and top players out injured. Oh, and also the fact that John Terry is captain!! (Can't stand the man!! )

(Can I start an "I 'ate Terry" thread please Nick??)

Wales 0 England 2

Undoubtedly a drab game. The only thing I really hope is that Terry and Bell-end-amy have a fight and both receive lengthy bans

Can see us easily losing it, 1-0, cheeky goal.
Not sure if he'll be playing but i'd put money on our most favourite player in the world... Bellend, to score it.

Then the six months of papers slandering Terry will follow.

Sadly, I will but I've a sneaky feeling I'm going to give it a miss. Going to get up uber early for the qualifying for the Aussie Grand Prix then Spanish football in the evening (if it's on, I haven't checked yet). Don't think Mrs Jarse will be too impressed if I do the England game too.

2-1 to England. We'll score early on, they'll get one just after half time and we'll be shocking for the next 25 mins, then 10 mins from time we'll settle ourselves with the winner. Bale will be a handful, no other Welsh player will be worthy of a mention, except maybe their keeper.

I'm never really that bothered about England games. Always watched them, but never been as down when England lose as when Cov do.

However, with the state of our club at the moment I need something to cheer!

I actually can't wait for exactly that reason, we've been so piss poor this season it isn't physically possible for England to be as bad.

Bale is out according to the press this morning which is a massive bonus. The first tackle Terry puts in on Bellend is going to be funny, wouldn't be surpirsed if Terry picks up an early card for a bit of a dig.
