Good analysis again, Ashbyjan. The reason Sammy didn't go bombing forward to support the strikers was because his role at the base of the diamond is exactly that - to sit in front of the back four, shielding them defensively, while providing a link from defence to set an attack moving - another assured captain's performance and 8/10.
Baker had one decent shot which hit the bar, but I remain unconvinced - he was given the free role at the top of the diamond but failed to rise to this opportunity to show us his undoubted ability, especially after Harris was sent off - 5/10.
Bell has been used as a CML with Gunnarsson CMR in the middle of the diamond, and again started in that position. After Gunnarsson's injury he moved to the right, with the left-footed McIndoe coming in on the left. With Millwall down to 10 men McIndoe played more as a left winger, stretching the diamond wider.
King had a great game as usual, this formation seems to be really agreeing with him. Sammy was great on and off the ball, giving direction and also dishing out the rollockings as well. Hussey gets better every game, give him the ball and he'll do something creative with it. Keogh is a little gem in our team, got his mind on the play 100% of the time and looked better out on the right when Wood came on. Platt made no impact when he came on and struggled to control the ball at the best of times. McIndoe's sub appearance was no where near as promising as his last one, would have liked to see Deegan come on instead.
I agree i think both Mcindoe and Platt were disapointing yesterday.
I think Mcindoe might have the ability to improve and be reasonably succesful but i really dont rate platt and simply think that he is a lower league player who will never cut it in the championship
Can't remember where i read it but someone said Platt's dummy for kings second goal was good. I watched the highlights and he was just nudged out of the way of the ball.
McIndoe was never a flying winger even with Bristol City. He was sold to us on the basis that he offered genuine width and fans were on him immediately as he had no pace, but he is a grafter who delivers well and tracks back hard. I know many City fans always like a hate figure, but we are often more balanced with him around and he can do a job. Don't get me wrong I'm not a huge fan, but I thought the way AB treated him was disgraceful
Must admit I thought King was a bit sloppy with the passing on Saturday, though that is compared to his usual high standards and his quick vision led to the first goal. I've never been a fan of Clarke who I don't think looks assured/confident on the ball but that aside completely agree - again the team as a whole looked an completely different side who were calm and controlled in possession so sign up King and Thorn!
