Sky Blues have had to make decision not to take up extra 3,500 tickets for FA Cup trip to the Emirates
Coventry City Football Club has had to make the decision not to take up an additional allocation of tickets for this month's FA Cup Fourth Round clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The club have been handed an initial allocation of 5,100 tickets for the clash on Friday, January 24th with an option for a further 3,500 upper tier seats should they be required.

The option on those seats was subject to an imposed deadline at 12pm today (January 14th) due to Arsenal's desire to sell to home fans.

Given that currently just over 1,000 tickets have been sold from the club's initial allocation of 5,100, the fact that the game is being broadcast live on TV on a Friday night, and the immediate demand for tickets from home fans the decision has been made not to take up the additional 3,500 tickets.

Makes no sense though, its only on sale to season ticket holders at the moment, and how many are there of them 600 at the most. Doesn't go on general sale till tomorrow

How many were they expecting to have sold given that hardly anyone has actually been able to buy them yet? We can't have that many ST holders yet they've still sold 1,000. If they knew this deadline was coming up why didn't they schedule the general sale accordingly so they'd actually have a realistic idea of demand. Everything about the club these days is done in such an amateur fashion.

Great point, I forgot they aren't on general sale yet.

Madness. Will be severely pissed off if I can't get a ticket now.

Why not put them on general sale early so you can gage. If current sales are extrapolated (roughly 2 x ST holders) then we'd be looking at closer to 8-10k away fans. (note: I accept that a) there's probably more than 500 ST holders now and b) they would've sold more per person due to the restrictions)

Why would Sisu want 8000 City fans there instead of 5000 if they could sell them:thinking about:Wouldn't look good on television would it? They will still get the same money because Arsenal will sell the extra seats to their own supporters.

I don't generally sign up to conspiracy theories, but this has also crossed my mind. The fewer there the better; as well as impacting on the size of any protest it also says "we couldn't sell al the tickets so sent some back". The 7k at MK got a resonable amount of natoinal coverage.

Probably way off the mark with this, but hey - its a slow news day

If any club takes an extra allocation they are committed to the cost of all and any unsold ones they pay for. I know everyone loves a conspiracy theory but I reckon this one is down to economics. I'm not sure we will even sell out lower tier.

If the club had any thought for the fans (for once...), they should have taken the extra tickets and made it 4 per person on general sale.

In that scenario you'd get the initial batch on sale to everyone ASAP so you had some idea what the demand was. They could have had a 24 hour window for ST holders, members etc, then 24 hours for anyone who's had a ticket this year. That way they would have been on general sale for a while before they needed to give Arsenal an answer and could accurately predict if they would be needed.
