The stat in that Athletic article said it all - no team in our position at this stage of the season has failed to get promoted for 15 years. Not only should you be believing, you should be enjoying it as well!

I believe. We’ve carried on from our top 3 form after-Xmas 2024 and stepped things up a notch, we’ve got to believe it’s our year.

From tomorrow until Jan 4th, it’s a gauntlet so if we come out of that on top, top 2 has got to be a certainty.

Like Ipswich in 2023/24, we’ve got to use Jan wisely to get a few quality addition because we’re light in a few areas and that’s a risk as the season progresses and fixtures pile up.

I will if we’re still in this position at Christmas.

In reality it’s quite unusual for a club to have as many points as we do and not go up (last time was 2011), but I know how we have a habit of being the exception on these things

Stuff Stoke by at least 3 and a clever bit of Jan business and think it’s promotion by any means!

Their problem was a collapse in form at the same point of the season we're about to head into.

To answer your question, yes I am starting to believe that this will be our year to get promoted. We've never been anywhere close to an automatic promotion challenge in this division ever, especially at this point in the season.

But in 2 of the last 3 seasons, we have made the play-offs despite slow starts which means we were always looking up in the table and trying our best to work out how many points would be enough, hoping our rivals would slip up, PPG etc.

This is a totally different feeling as we are now top of the league and looking down the table at rivals and hoping our good run will continue. There's a long way to go and the Christmas/new year period is so crucial.

If we are in the top 2 come Boxing Day, I think we will do it!

We’re odds on to win the league right now, it’s ours to lose.

Yes. This isn’t just a 14 game flash in the pan, pretty much since Lampard has walked through the door we have been at automatic pace..

As others have said, 4 or 5 long term injuries to key players would kill us but what other team wouldn’t be affected by that?

Hi,

Ipswich fan here. Believe it or not I don’t usually post on the sites of other teams, rarely post on our own one (TWTD) but I registered a couple of years ago to commiserate on your FA cup semi final defeat and have been back a few times since as you seem such a decent bunch - proper fans supporting a proper football club. Last time I posted was to tell you I thought Woolfy would be a great signing for you. I know it’s not worked out so far (I watched him get terrorised by Moore against Wrexham) but he’s a decent player who will come good. He’s certainly much better than that performance would suggest.

I just wonder if you are now really starting to believe you can go up. For what it’s worth, I think you can and that you will. There’s something happening that seems special. Once in a generation stuff where the players, manager, fans, the whole city is on the same page. Watching the clips of The Enemy playing pre-match the other night gave me goosebumps. So many similarities between you this season and us 2-3 seasons ago. Individually not outstanding (I mean no disrespect by this you’ve got some very good players) but so much greater than the sum of their parts.

Certainly no criticism of woolfy

Still think your squad is way above anything in the League - you will be top two.
For us to sustain anywhere near what we've done so far, we need luck, no injuries to key players, more luck and for fine margins to fall in our favour more often than not, and maybe a few clubs coming in for managers of rivals.
We have players that are performing above their levels - Asante for example - how long can that last....
We have a tough run from now until Christmas - if we are still with reach of top two after that - I might start to believe.

We are Coventry City

Our squad looks ridiculously strong for this league - Jack Clarke as an impact sub, Nunez an occasional starter, several £10m + players on the bench every game but the balance isn’t right, we lack an identity and have no idea what our best 11 is. I’m not being critical, just honest. Without wishing to harp on about 23/24, back then we had a settled side and barring injuries you could name 8 or 9 guaranteed starters every game. There’s plenty of time and if we do really click we could go on a long winning run but we’re in November and are still patchy.

This is around that period that did for Robin's,any sign of Panic from the powers that be?

I believed Ipswich would dominate the league based on how much you manhandled us in the FA cup. Whilst we played a weakened side, the players you mentioned on the bench would start for most, if not all the teams in the league.

Too much competition is just as bad as no competition and that’s why McKenna doesn’t know his best eleven yet.

As for McKenna, are fans starting to doubt him? From the outside looking in, it looks like the old stalwarts leaving has changed the dynamics. A similar thing happened to us with Robins after 22/23.

Not all first team but I’d argue with Dovin Rudi Eccles and sort of Torp too we weren’t far off.

I believe at minimum we’ll get playoffs.

Autos is contingent on either being lucky with injuries or recruiting well in Jan (and being lucky until then). The last 4/5 games has shown we can be exposed with a few players out- particularly midfielders and we’re lucky to have the points return we got from those games.

Yes, obviously Dovin is a long term injury but it happened last season, still counts but at least we had the chance to properly replace him. BBC showing Torp having played in 12 games, will have to check though.

Won't start to believe until we have got past Christmas.

Still at the top come the New Year, then I will start to believe we are going to do it.

The run of games up till January, including a double header against Ipswich, is very tough. If we're still in the top 2 come January 1st, I'll start believing then because we'll have navigated the toughest run of the season, at the toughest time of the season, with a small squad.

That said, if we avoid defeat tomorrow (Stoke), I'll have increased my confidence level by a good 20%..

I'm just a tad more cautious, Harry.

For me it would go up by 0.02%

It's rare that I see us flying this high in the table so who really knows where we'll end up! I am enjoying the ride so far though. One game at a time.

Worth pointing out that Cardiff weren’t even top for most of that Lampard-esque run at the start of 2010/11. They had QPR going toe to toe with them in a way that is not really true of any other teams this season.

God no, zero faith in us pulling this off.. but I know that is just conditioning from decades of supporting through years of almost criminal mismanagement of the club.

I can't relax at the moment, it's making me question if I can actually enjoy football.

For what it's worth my biggest fear/nagging doubt is that teams like Ipswich and Southampton will put on a massive run.

Crazy talk!

Being top of the table at this stage of the season changes everything for us. Players more motivated, fans more engaged, transfer targets taking notice etc etc. It’s the most exciting time to be a Coventry fan in years.

Thing is if we're top at Jan1st when the window opens, players including top loans, will want to come and be part of it, especially under Lampard. That's why tomorrow is huge, if we win and Boro dont, we're 7 points clear and guaranteed top heading into December so it won't take much more to keep that going for another month.

We’re scoring for fun but wer’e solid defensively as well, forget the Wrexham game ( 3 out of the 4 missing ) we’ve only conceded 3 goals in the last 8 games, that’s some going

No, there’s nothing to indicate any pressure on McKenna from those making the decisions and never has been.
