It’s easy to be fooled by the number of signings this summer but are we really yet better than last year ??

O’Hare and Giles were with us last year.

Hamer has big boots to fill for Walsh.

Hilsner does not yet look better than Westbrooke ... time will tell.

De Costa is an unknown player to most of us.

It could be argued that only Ostergard is an improvement on last year, and even that is based on his reputation and potential, not anything proven at Championship level.

It’s clear from Robins comments that he knows we need more bodies and quality.

Sheaf ( Hanker ) mag still be one of them but I’d still like to see 2 more strikers .... Leon Clarke, and a lightening quick premier league loan.

Then I think you can argue the team looks stronger ....

It is fair to say the jury is out still

Hamer looks good. But does he like Walsh good? Only time will tell

Giles looks good going forward but so far seems less complete than mcallum

Da costa we have never seen

Agree Leo sounds better on paper

Hilsner to me looks like he has potential. But we need time we him in competitive games to see how he is compared to Westbrooke or Shipley Allen etc

Can't give you an answer. Maybe after 5 or 10 games. That said we need more players still

What did you think last season when he brought 9 in most of which became regulars early on.

I think one thing that shouldn’t be forgotten is the age of our squad. Our stand out players are still to hit their peak in theory, so I think given the same squad we’d be improved anyway.

That said, other than maybe Østigård and maybe Hamer, I don’t think we’ve improved yet. Giles has a way to go to prove he’s better than McCallum (though I do think he’ll be better going forward).

I want to see a DM in and a striker though I doubt we can get a massive upgrade on Godden for the money we have. Rose, Hyam, Dabo, O’Hare, Shipley and Allen I all expect to push on.

Can see 3 more in and as many out. I think it’s brilliant we’ve kept all the players we’ve wanted to. I think everyone accepts we need an upgrade up front, Godden deserves to start but I think the jury is out at championship level and he’s gonna need some assistance.

Robins, Vivash. Boddy, recruitment team have a few rabbits yet I reckon.

Don’t forget McCallum improved as the season went on. For the first half the season many were questioning why Mason wasn’t playing instead. Giles looks to have a better cross at least. Hilßner is a very different player to Westbrooke, I think. I think he’s here to bring something slightly different and versatility in that he could play on the wing if we changed formation. Looks like he has a great left foot already, just think he will need to learn the intensity of English football.

Last season I thought our transfers were an improvement ....

.... this window I think our business has been good but the next 3 signings will determine how good.

Anyone else think we look like we’ll have better set pieces this year? It’s something I think we lacked at times and didn’t make full use of having three big CBs able to come up. Hamer, Giles, and Hilßner all look able to take a decent dead ball.

My only concern is Rose crucial imo to our defence and was linked earlier with Leeds who have money burning holes in their pocket and have just failed in their bid for Ben White.

I think that’s correct. We had two fabulous loans last season so I expect the other loan to be a really key one and potentially 3 season long loans would be ok. I don’t like loans normally and certainly not too many but needs must. I fully expect sheaf or similar to sign permanently.

I also fully expect significant interest in Rose dabo hyam but unless it’s a large amount of money they won’t leave

I think clubs will be weary bidding on an injured player before he’s back, so I think we’re OK there. Might worry in January, but we could be bottom/top by 20 points by then so cross that bridge when we come to it.

I think it's easy to forget though, that Walsh and O'Hare could both be classed as unknowns to us at this stage last year, and very few could have actually predicted how well that would turn out. Obviously we haven't improved on O'Hare as such, but he is now our player. No-one can say for sure at the moment if Hamer is as good as, or better than Walsh was for us, only time will tell.

I am as excited to see the year on year development of a youthful team and to see what success the continuity of a settled squad brings as I am about big name or big money signings. I’m still flip flopping between being the surprise package in the league and being over taken by Sheff Wednesday before the end of October!

I think we're going to do well this year. Going to surprise many.

Hamer will turn our brilliant, Jones coming back will show his true potential that almost got him a job at Leeds and MR will earn the freedom of Cov by next May.

I'm normally wrong on things like this but I've gotta be right sometime

Exactly where I’m at. I was saying this very thing to my cardiff supporting girlfriend yesterday. She was quite patronising...at this stage I’d just be happy if we beat them!
It’s not much of a barometer as they weren’t very good, and we lost, but we were the better side over two games against Brum last year. I think we need a bit more size and pace to compete.

Unless I’ve missed them there doesn’t seem to be a lot of movement yet certainly in the championship we are in different times due to COVID19

We forget that Leeds ACTUALLY wanted Jones. It wasn't made-up agent nonsense, teams were genuinely sending scouts to watch him tear up L2. If he gets that form back then he'll be in the Starting XI

Far too early to say,on paper we are not far off where we were end of last season but we now are in a league above 2 quality additions needed

Way too early yet. Preston have signed no one, middlesborough and Luton one player etc.

A long way to go in the window

Our 4 best players last season were...
Dabo
Walsh
Rose
McCallum

None are playing at the start of the season. Ostigard can fill in for Rose, Hamer for Walsh. We have some issues at fullback. Giles isn't strong defensively

Jones is the only player I have inside info on. Leeds and Norwich were both interested but I believe Wigan were the most serious and it may have gone through if he didn't get injured.
Funny how quickly things change in football, we could probably go and grab their players now.

I always felt McCallum wasn’t great defensively, that’s why he worked in the Wing back system.

It played to his strengths better and he was covered by Rose well. Allowed him to play his natural attacking game

Yes, we are yet better. Not sure why, but reminded me of Russell Crowe in Gladiator, with "Are you not entertained" or however it went!

We have alot of players who have played together for 1-2 years... In many ways the continual development and understanding of familiar faces can be just as rewarding as buying a ton of players and starting again.

Yes we've brought in several players and we needed to, but we've kept the core together which is just as important
We will continue to improve

Sheffield United still have players who helped them win league 1 playing

Being honest I don't think we're better yet, no. That said, I think it would've been a big ask to bring in 'better' than what we have in a number of positions. Especially considering our minimal budget. I think the main positive is that we've addressed the departures of star players last season (in the most part) and added depth to key positions. I'm certainly happy with our signings so far, especially Hamer, Ostigard and O'Hare.

The only position I think we're perhaps worse is LWB, as the jury is certainly out there whether Giles is going to be better than McCallum. Reports of his defensive abilities hardly make for great reading.

Overall the recruitment has been good but I think the next few signings could be pivotal to our season and potentially dictate how successful we are. We definitely need another CDM and ST, so hopefully our scouting department can continue their good work and unearth a couple more gems.

You cant sorry, shouldn't, judge players too severely early season. Remember how many were writing off Walsh after two or three games.
It's ok to have doubts but no need to panic
