I think if city get a good winger then yes..overalliI think the starting 11 has been wrong from the get go.

I agree, with a little bit of pace out wide we would do well.

We have the players on paper, it is just getting them to play together.

Any team can be competative for the odd game or part of the game. We've played 8-9 games and we're clinging on to the fact that we performed well in 12-15% as a benchmark to how good the squad is.

The squad is better than the league position suggests but the squad isn't anywhere good enough for top 6.

The players ARE good enough, but we have the WRONG players.

AT went for silky, good on the ball, skilful players (Jennings, Fleck, Barton) when we needed players with heart, grit, determination, strength and pace.

The players are good enough as individual footballers, but they are not the right players to take us out of the division.

Well not in the direction we would hope anyway.

The players are decent but we are so bereft of pace it's killing us. You can't rely on mediocre full backs to provide the width and delivery at this level either. They can supplement, but not be the primary threat.

Robins had Campbell-Ryce at Rotheram did he not? Maybe even Reuben Reid on the opposite flank. These are the types of players we need out wide.

I used to work with a guy. He was a great footballer. Silky skills, great on the ball, lovely touch, all the attributes you would want in a footballer ...

Except he didn't like training and didn't put any heart into his performances.

Was on Villa's books but ended up playing non-league. Always played like he was on auto-pilot. He could have made it in the game with the right mental attitude.

This is my problem with these players. they don't care enough, work hard enough and lack a will-to-win attitude.

The team is good enough, just struggling for confidence and come on, it's no suprise really is it? The black cloud that looms over CCFC is there for all to see and it's been there for years. The minute any player walks through that door, they're immediately infected with the negativity that surrounds the club. The only way out of this mess is to work harder and harder at all levels of the football club, supporters included. I know it's hard to get behind the team when they're so poor and ugly to watch but it's what's required. The only way to eliminate the negativity is through positivity. So when the new manager is appointed, let's start again, forget about what's gone before, and support him wholeheartedly.

Whilst not exactly the hard man in the middle he was advertised as, wouldn't describe him as you have above.

I think the team are technically good enough to be right up there. Whether they have the mental attributes to be is another matter entirely.

Look at the sides that have been promoted in recent years. Leeds finished second, but their side included; Beckford, Beccio, Johnson, Howson, Snodgrass, Gradel...we won't get out this league with freebies

Wouldn't say he was silky but he's a ball player. His passing ability is really good and he seems to have intelligence on the ball.

Not seen and grit or fight about him yet though.

After 11 years of almost constant struggle, why are we asking if the players are good enough? It's quite obvious they're not. I keep reading how on paper we are better than most in this division, but I read similar when we were in the championship, what it's based on I don't know.

We're all miserable at the mo and it's easy to point the blame. But time for a line in the sand.

Agree with this, and this is why our players arent good enough, you need more than technical ability to be a good player. Cream rises because they have technical ability, drive, application, professionalism, a will to win.

Technical ability alone is not enough, which is why the players aren't good enough, and you were completely right that we brought in the wrong types of players.

To put this better our Squad is not good enough.

Swampy as I called him, was the best player I ever played alongside. He was at Norwich as a youngster but he didn't make it. It had nothing to do with his ability because he was a genius on the ball. Swampy's problem was he would actually turn it on once every 7 or 8 games, but when he decided he was in the mood for it he was untouchable. He would ghost past players as if they weren't there. I've never seen talent like it. I'd liken him to Roy Wegerle, who had all the talent and ability in the world, but again, only showed it in flashes. Once I got to know Swampy, I worked out the best way of getting him to play to his ability regularly was to tell him he was rubbish, so I'd tell him all the time how rubbish he was and there was no point turning up, it used to rile him, and every game he set out to show me he wasn't rubbish. These days they'd say I was using a bit of psychology to get the best out of him, but it damn sure worked.
