Is it just me or does anyone else find this whole phenomenon utterly depressing?

Police called to supermarkets across the country as sad fuckers fight over saving a few quid on some tat that they almost definitely don't need & are most likely buying with money they don't actually have.....

Spurred on by the relentless "marketing" spam, advertising & media coverage....greed greed greed....spend spend spend....buy shit, buy this shit, buy some more shit....push that twat out of the way...I saw it first...consume consume consume.....debt debt debt.....

The whole thing stinks.....Its almost Orwellian in how easily lead our population have become in feeding the corporate machine and banks.....

Other European countries haven't wholeheartedly adopted this grotesque greedy me me me consumerism....why are we in the UK so susceptible to it?

Horrible event appealing to the lowest common denominator.

We, as a nation, are becoming more soulless and empty at an increasingly alarming rate......we know the price of everything & the value of nothing.

"Shoppers" in scrums climbing over each other reaching out for TV's & Games consoles like they're manner from heaven.......

.....There is more order, respect & patience at aid stations giving out water & rice to starving kids in Syria.....

I can't agree more with this post. Greed and Speed, that's all this country represents these days. People climbing over each other to get to the top at all costs. Wanky shows like the 'Apprentice' positively encourage it together with the all roads lead to London policy we've had for decades. Don't get me started on HS2, overcrowding, road congestion and successive governments who can't stand up and tell Merkel to fuck right off !

Although, I was in London years ago when those cabbage patch dolls has just hit the shops and apparently were in HUGE demand. Me & Wife wandered into Hamley's and saw them. Couple of people buying them, but could have easily bought them in minutes if it was something we needed for presents. No crowd, no hysteria.

Anyway, got home later that evening, and on the news, it showed a mass scrum at Hamleys with people fighting to buy these stupid dolls. It was packed out, and looked very "fraught". Then I spotted the time this happened. 10 minutes after we had been there......

Orchestrated for the news perhaps?? Not saying today is the same, but you do wonder sometimes.

What I find strange is that people are spending more money on stuff they don't even need just because it is a bargain. Fair play to people who have held on to get what they want and they have saved money. But when you are fighting over a toaster because it is £6 when you don't need one it is pointless.

I love it. I think it is fantastic and a wonderful opportunity to grab some bargains. :sarcasm:

Funnily enough, I got an email come through on my phone at 02.41 this morning from Amazon talking about Black Friday. The notification tone woke me up, so I thought I'd just have a quick look at what all the fuss was about.

I logged to Amazon and this was at 02.44, just 3 mins after receiving the email and many of the offers were already sold out.

The saddest thing I came across was on 5Live where they were interviewing people who had been queuing. This girl they talked to only sounded about 17 or 18 and had been queuing for hours and hours.

When they asked what she wanted to buy she said she wanted to buy stuff to sell on to other people.

I'm with you there, its like when the wife comes back from town telling me how much she's saved. You haven't saved anything you've been spending money!

I could do with a new fridge but I'm not getting involved in that carnage for the sake of saving £50.

Do keep an eye on Amazon in case any Blu Rays or games I've had my eye on come up with a decent discount or anything that would make a good Xmas present but apart from that I can't be bothered with it. People are queuing outside stores not even knowing what they're going to be selling, it's ridiculous.

It's like my brother. He came back from a casino and so I asked him how much he had won and he said £40.

I then asked him how much he had put in and he said £120.

So therefore he must have won -£80. Fantastic!

Yeah thats the thing, if it was online and I could get on and I was going to save a tenner than bonus. I get angry waiting in a post office so I reckon I would be fuming in ASDA with loads of people trying to push past me.

As usual, it all started in the bloody U.S.A. The Brits have to follow suit just like bloody sheep! It's the same as Trick or Treating, and those bloody stupid Prom things that kids want nowadays when they leave school! I can't stand the yanks and the way they live, so I don't partake in all the stupid hype they expect the rest of us to follow. What next for us over here? Turkeys on Thanksgiving Day? Elections the way they have them? Maybe a president instead of the Royal Family.

It's called human emotion. They let emotions get the better of them, rather than using logic. The one's that got what they want was probably due to planning what they need, a bit like the toasters gone need a new one. £6 i'll take it. It's just another stock clearance at a lower price before restocking them before reverting back to the original price.

It's the so called Supply and Demand economics. Lower what you can supply and you'll get more demand.

Ditto JHFC ,agree entirely with this summation on the state of our nation and the Cultural shift It's undergone especially over the last 30-40 even possibly 50-60 yrs

Couldn't get on yesterday to acknowledge your excellent points .

On a more Trivial note the same reflection could apply In attitude to appearance and Dress habits IMO.

It isn't called Generation Selfie for nothing. People obsessed with taking pictures of themselves, all the adverts on TV having a hashtag in them, social media full of people trying to paint an image of how good their life is to outdo others doing the same thing.
