Any tech-y type people on here who can recomend decent laptops, and whether I should look more towards a Windows laptop or Macbook?

Not really clued up when it comes to specs etc, and have heard Macbook's are better, but the price puts me off!

Cant justify spending £1000+ on what is essentially a computer

What are you going to be using it for?

Mainly internet, microsoft office, and more importanly Football Manager! Atleast these are what i used my old one for. So in reality, probably not alot which is another reason i cant really justify the Macbook (althpugh its only myself id have to justify it to. Its my cash after all )

You can get a windows machine for half the price with the same power...

Mac all the way for me! Windows half the price, same power.....four weeks later slow as slow, virus and needs reformatting. Mac four years later, still boots up and runs as it did the day you got it out of the box. No hype, just quality all round. Had pc's for years, built them, gamed on them and now gone mac and id NEVER go back.

Absolutely no way should you get a mac, complete waste of money for those pretty basic tasks. Even just a cheap pc would easily handle what you said you'd use it for

Get a windows computer/laptop. Cheaper, do the exact same thing as a mac and there not as limited on the software front as Macs.

Really does shock me how people spend thousands on apples products.

Because they last longer.
You can throw away your Windows PC after 3-4 yrs.
Never, ever Windows again for me.

Thats another of my thoughts. My last laptop thats gone a knacker is atleast 4 years old. Might even be nearer 5. Memory went, battery shite so had to keep it hooked up to charger permanently (so may aswell have been a desktop instead of laptop). I dont hear these problems woth Mac's.

I hate making decisions......

Don't think I know anyone that's kept their mac that long. There pretty limited software wise, the tech inside them aren't that great either. There meant to be great for graphics etc..my college got a load of them installed for exactly that. We all ended up going next door and using windows instead.

Macs are no better or worse, but they are definitely overpriced. How long macs/pc's last entirely depends on what and how you use them. I've had my PC for ages. Still works just like new. Even runs games pretty well too

limited software wise? 90% of stuff thats on windows is on mac now days mate, its not like it used to be in the early days. I used to be a windows only man but i have to say now ive got a mac i wouldnt swap it for anything. Yes a windows machine may well be okay for the OP but i always think what i may want to do with it in the future. If you limit yourself now you only gotta replace it a few years down the line cos its not got enough capabilities to do what you want, then you spent more in the long run buying two machines

apple vs windows will always bring out the worst in people, black and white opinions no grey!

if the software you want to run is only available on windows then buy a windows machine, you can get great deals on refurb high spec laptops from the dell factory outlet, europc and ebay (search for mdmsparesandlaptops have bought stuff off them and had great service)

I am a mac guy through and through but you buy what "you" need not what someone else thinks you want

I also am NOT a Apple fanboy, I just switched a couple of years ago.
Yes, Apple products are overpriced and everybody knows. Even those using them.
I got my Mac from the Apple site and bought a refurbished one, so I roughly paid what I would have paid for a brand new Windows PC.
In the last two or three years I had issues + problems over and over, all based on Windows problems.
That's why I chose to switched and I have never regretted it since.
Just compare the number of known Windows viruses to the Mac. If you're on the internet, that defo should be a point to be regarded.
"Limited software wise" is an argument I just hear from people not using a Mac.
As I said, I've been using it for a while and I've not been missing anything since.
I've got to admit, though that I do not play any games on my Mac - As most games are for Windows only, that might be a reason to stick with Windows if you do want to play a lot.

I've had a MacBook for about 6 years, like you bought a refurb one from the apple shop, I have since upgraded the RAM, Hardrive and OS and have experienced no issues, whereas my missus windows laptop and pretty much all my family's Windows laptops/pcs seem to crash, get virus's or have other problems on a monthly basis. I find at my MacBook is quicker, more stable and easier to use than the Windows's equivalents.

I don't play games on my MacBook, that's what the Xbox is for! But I do use it a lot for making music.

MacBook every time. I'm running a MBP since 2009 and have had no issues ever. The missus still uses a 2006 MacBook and it runs exactly the same as the day I bought it (we've had to replace the battery, but that was after 5 years).

Edit - The white MacBook the missus uses was a re-furb from Apple too. Has been faultless.
