Apologies to those on the hill (5 Viewers)

Who turned up with fireworks, I had a conversation with the liaison officer mid week, I explained what are intentions were and he commented that he was concerned about letting off fireworks In a crowded area. I explained that that would be let off in an area away from any crowds and would not be aimed at the ground etc. He replied ok.
Today the Police informed me that we couldn't let fireworks off and anyone caught doing so would be arrested and potentially charged with offences not only breach of peace but also football related.
I called the liaison officer whilst on the hill and he denied saying it was on but that he was gathering information.
They read these forums so must have seen my post saying that the police had okayed us to let fireworks off as long as it was safe. But failed to contact me to explain that this was not the case. Although they have e mailed me three times and phoned me whilst still in a Coventry.
I have informed the police I will not be taking responsibility for what happens on the hill in future and will not liaise with them in future.
In fairness to the guy in charge today he apologised if I had been given the wrong impression, but it's still not good enough. I'll be contacting the police to see if they have a recording of my conversation with the liaison officer who basically lied.
That said, best time on the hill ever today, thanks to everyone who turned up and made it such fun!

Isn't there a law now that restricts you to the first week in November to stop weeks and weeks of fireworks.
Probably a public order offence.

I here the tennis balls were confiscated as well. All 7 of them.

Out of interest, did you speak with the WMP liaison or Northants? Either way, I'm confused as to why this idea would have even come up? Fireworks at a football game? Unless it's just after you've won a cup / trophy / league etc, I can't see how they fit in?

It was agreed to use a large empty car park on top of Hill to one side, well away from the public but would be seen from the stadium.

Yep, 7 tennis balls, this was half hour after the police saw them. Saw where they were kept and saw that they were left unattended with no intention of anyone using them. Oddly enough this was about 5 minutes after the arguments about the fireworks had stopped.
Not suggesting that they were after trying to antagonise those on the hill.
You would have thought The liaison officer I spoke to would have informed me when I first spoke to him would have been quite clear about the fireworks. When I challenged him on this he replied he was just gathering information. If anyone on here decides to get involved in any sort of protest be warned. From what I have learnt today they are not there to liaise with you to make things safer for everyone they are there to gather information...

It was northants, I had to sign a form saying I understood my responsibilities etc and I took it over to the station they named (right by sixfields) at 11:30pm Thursday evening after work.
But your comment just proves concessions are made and remember we were not in the ground.

Apologies. It IS a good idea to let off fireworks in a crowd and around kids. Those public information films in the 70s must have been wide of the mark.

The space at the top in the unused car park was as safe as houses. Even had a petrol remote control car speeding round it most the first half.

Suspect the main complaint is they were told that to begin with. If told no from the start, would be a lot easier to stomach?

OK, so consessions can be made. However, I still fail to see what the point would have been? Even with Sky there I doubt they'd have taken their cameras off the playing field to show the pretty colours :thinking about:

Or were the fire works going to spell 'OTIUM OUT' in fancy writing?

Which is why I spoke to the police liaison officer...
The empty car park space to the side of the hill is flat and gravelled and isn't far off the size of a football pitch. I know you like to stir the shit for a laugh Torchy but the fact is, I took the liaison officer in good faith, if it was an absolute no no why didn't he say this at the time of our conversation on the telephone last Tuesday ?
He was probably earning brownie points with his gaffers. Hope no one falls for the same crap as I did in future.

Doesn't matter whether what point you fail to see does it?
I fail to see the point in X Factor when this country has loads of talent performing live every day of the week but I wouldn't tell the wife it wasn't on when it was.

Well I tend to think there needs to be a reason for letting off fireworks; otherwise it's just pointless. Or maybe it's just me. I doubt it, but it could be.

Andreas, in order to avoid City fans insulting each other the best we might be able to do at the moment is agree to disagree on some stuff but it is important we get basic facts right ie kcic was in The Old Shepherd yesterday and no fireworks in sight!

TT - absolutely no need for you to be apologising cos you did a great job. Everyone I've spoken to who was on the hill says it was really good and it was perfect for sky in giving them an image to back up the story of the empty stadium.

Big lesson from yesterday though was that we need some unity. There was no consensus about what to do and to a large extent yesterday was about making the best of a bad job. But is having some people on the hill, some at The Old Shepherd, the Trust promoting Riley's (although 1 or 2 well known faces were spotted on sky!) really the best way to go?

Don't worry, you're in good company. If you don't go to Northampton you're not a "real" fan either. Apparently (according to Rich87 and his Wrecking Crew) there are only around 100 real fans. The rest of us are a mixture of scabs and lazy bastards.

Personally, I thought the impact of empty stands we saw on sky for 90 minutes made a significant statement.

Makes me laugh..........fireworks.............no fireworks, there was only a smattering of people up there ! You wait till tomorrow, what's the chance of a few flares etc in the 18000 Polish fans crammed inside Wembley?? We're just bloody health and safety mad in the UK !
