What the usual drill? Not sure I believe that these things are pre-arranged with the opposite club.

If I was to drape one over a load of empty seats before kick off do we reckon it would be removed?

Cheers, that's what I thought. Guess it's just a case of picking an empty spot when I get there then - probably have to wait until kick off :-s

Taken my flag with me to a good few away games and never had a problem............except at the Ricoh where they wouldn't let me drape it above the entrance from where you come out under the bar.

The only problem I find is that it's a pain in the arse carrying it around with you when you're on the lash.

So basically the only ground that kicks up a fuss is the Ricoh. Funny that.

Fire safety my arse.

I have a flag with a fire safety certificate and take it every away game.
Banners should be fine, try putting them over netting most are fine with that.

Mine's a bed sheet so no fire safety certificate.

Just wondering if asking a steward where's best to put it is a good idea. Went last season but can't remember what they were like there.

Some clubs, like Boro have a clearly defined policy as shown here:

http://www.mfc.co.uk/page/fans/flags-and-banners

It reads in a similar way to that which we were so forcefully told prevails at the Ricoh; but to an extent the debate there is the thoroughness in which it is decided to enforce the rules when it suits those empowered to do so.

I can't see anything similar on the Reading site, so I'd suggest mailing their Customer Services team for clarity ahead of wasting your time, or getting involved in something you'd rather avoid. Contact details as per the link:

http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/CustomerServices/0,,10306~1064134,00.html

If you get any feedback, you could perhaps copy and paste it here to give clarity to anyone else interested

I wouldn't ask, when I went palace earlier this season, I asked and they said no don't put any flags up, but then someone else did and they did nothing at all.
So just put it up!

That's great MMM, thanks. I imagine they'll ask me what material it's made from and it'll then be rejected!

Learn one of those whilst you're sober. The orange jacketed monkeys at the grounds will be flummoxed if you choose a material with more than two syllables and thus you'll be have free license for an erection John Holmes would have been proud of
