Anyone else feel sorry for the players? (1 Viewer)

Regardless of whether they are your favourite player or not, and regardless of the fact that they are well paid proffesionals I genuinely feel sorry that these players who have tried so hard this year to get the club into this position might now see it ripped away through no fault of their own. I also worry that the level of dissapointment will drag on into next year and we could well get relegated again. I think SP is spot on when he says these players deserve a chance to get into the play offs in these last seven games for all the effort they have put in.

I do feel sorry for them, however, the 10 points could have been more or less irrelevant if they hadn't lost so many games they should have won. How many points is it lost at home from winning positions?

But the table does not lie and we are in the mix with seven games to go...we would all like them to be world beaters like Man Untd but realistically is where we are not enough? Does it matter that we are better on the rd? the play off final is away so is that not something we could take as a positive?

same here, not really no..

isnt everyone in the same position these days.. i mean, i dont really know anyone who has job security right now & when you speak to freinds most of them say they are not sure if they will be in the same job in 12 months time, their company isnt doing so well, not sure how long their company can keep going for in the current climate etc..

only diffrence is that most people get paid a lot less , and do jobs that they hate doing

Got to echo this - considering where we are now with a slight chance of making it up and all the games we threw away needlessly we should have dominated this league - it's a real shame - admin or not we should have had a chance to go up

See where you are coming from mattylad but agree with you Torch - not really......... yes there will be disappoinment if we lose the 10 points(they are not lost yet) can understand that ................ but given the squad, the finance, the set up, the ground (up until the grass was removed!) then surely as it stands they have under achieved ? ................... and been reasonably well paid for doing it.

Tend to agree with mark82 about the results we have dropped a lot of points we realy should not have......... 3 or 4 wins instead of losing or drawing from winning positions and the possible 10 point deduction would still leave us pushing for the playoffs

Yes they have worked hard, I have been really encouraged by the change in attitude from say last year, but dont we expect that as a minimum? Wont be good for their mindset to have it taken away from them but thats life there are a lot of people in a worse position. Next year who knows..... got to be a club first ....... if we get new owners then there might be a buzz about the place that would be hard to beat.... or like you say more decline if nothing changes. The players just need to deal with it

Thats the point of the original thread though...take the wages and the job security etc out of the equation...I am just talking about on heart and endeavour.

Most of these players are in this league because they have had a career of inconsistent performances (Murphy, Wood, Edge, Baker, Shef, Bell, Jennings, Clarke, Elliott, McDonald,Moussa). Then there are the younger players who perhaps aren't quite ready for the championship (Christie, Clarke, Martin, Blair Adams, Bailey, Wilson, Thomas, Cameron,Willis). There are also those that have never met their potential because of attitude, injury, weight, etc (Barton, Fleck)

So broadly speaking, our squad is full of either under-achievers or not-yet achievers.

What am i trying to say. I don't really feel sorry for them as such - like someone else said, home form has/may cost us promotion. If they were mentally stronger they probably wouldn't have lost so many games at home, and if there weren't so many under-achievers maybe we'd be higher up the table.

I do sympathise a bit though, they're on the verge of achieving what for some, will be the only major success they have in their careers.

It's not the players I feel sorry for, it's the staff at the club. The ticket office, the shop, the sales team, the stewards (to an extent) - they have had to work hard throughout the circumstances this season and probably don't know if they will have a job if we enter administration. They probably don't have huge salaries and lots of money to fall back on, so it's them I feel sorry for not the players.

Agree with that. They are the ones that have zero control over what has gone on.

Are you kidding? Feel sorry for players. How good would it be a professional footballer , particularly these days.

I would have loved to have been a professional footballer! Played in Coventry school team that had two players who made into professional game who played in top flight . One was about 3 times better than as me and the other about 10 times.

I do understand the point of the thread question, but like many others would love to be in their boots!

ok, but even if you take the money out of it, and they were just on say 25k a year, and they had all the same job security problems as the rest of us... wouldnt you still rather be playing football. i know i would, but im rubbish at football ( relatively speaking

so i guess i just feel as sorry for them as i do any other people i know who work their a hard all year ..

I genuinely feel for the fans & back room staff who have emotional attachment to the club. The players in general simply seek to do their best to attract the attentions of the biggest, highest level & highest paying club they can, so only a slight sorry feel for them at being denied their opportunity for a celebration.

The only time I feel sorry for the players (and it tends to be Baker) is when some knobhead screams abuse at them at home games. I understand its frustrating at the moment, but some of our fans need to get it into their heads that this league isn't a walk in the park.

I feel that a large part is the players own down-fall. It doesn't matter who the manager has been, they just haven't performed well enough to "go for glory" so to speak. This league was never going to be easy, but that was said when we were relegated to the Championship and people thought we'd walk that! As it has been previously stated, the home performances and points lost at home are a disgrace. The one recent "high" we had was snatched away from the fans (against Crewe) and we are now clutching at straws hoping against hope that we will be ok on Friday. If we had not thrown away 30+ points at home we would not be so worried about the play-offs because we would probably be at the top - or very near - with enough points in hand.
Am I sorry for the players? In a word - No!

i feel proud of our players. 3 managers!!! and yet they have still put them selfs in a position were play offs is in there grasp. if thats taken away from them they can stillbe proud of there efforts. if ur gonna feel sorry for some one then it is us the long suffering fans. since we dropped out of the prem league not once have we had the excitement of the play offs and now we just may have a chance it looks like it going to taken away from us, because between acl and sisu we have been shafted.
