Hi all,
Any update on if/when baker will return?

From what I recall, he is still training with us and is getting closer to full fitness (though I thought early February was mentioned as target date)?

SSB.

Yep.

He’s still mediocre.

But older.

And not fit.

And everyone really needs to get over Carl Baker FFS....

This is his latest tweet.

Can't see anything mentioning or hinting at any date for return.

He's not a Legend yet .
From what he said when commentating for BBC he should be hitting the grass when this snow clears .
There is No gaurantee we're going to sign him though .
It would take another month just getting him up to speed.
I'm not averse to it though could be handy in the Final month.

Update: Not fit, hasn't been fit all season, unlikely to be fit, has always been overrated and fucked off for more money. Now needs a bail out and we are his favourite club.

Who cares. He’s rubbish and just another ex pro trying to get a quid out of us by pretending he cares

Even if he did sign and play a bit, he'd be a deeply underwhelming bit part player. Think Yakubu but with tattoos.

If he was going to have joined us this season and made a worthwhile contribution(which he COULD have done), the time to sign him would have been when he left Pompey, to give him time to get fit. That ship has sailed now. Time to move on; Reid is a better option.

He's not costing us anything, is a good role model and can help some if the younger kids. I see no negative here. If he doesn't get ready Robins will know, but if we end up short and he can come on and turn just one game near the end of the season, then it could be the difference. He's not Ronaldo but he's also not without something to offer that we might need.

I’ll put my trust in robins... if he think he’ll contribute he will sign him, if he doesn’t then he won’t. Don’t think robins will be into a desperate Slade / Yakubu move

Presume its a reference to when he signed to play in the Indian league. Robins later said they'd had talks about him coming here but he got offered silly money to go to India.

Can't blame him really, especially given his age.

baker got so much abuse from idiot cov fans who said he was no good. He leaves us and wins player of the year a couple of times, moves up the leagues while we slump down them. I don’t know how good he would be now but to go say he was shit is proved to be wrong.

Yes agreed. There were some who bemoaned re-siging Doyle and that hasn't been a bad decision.

Nick that isnt the point luwalla was making. People are rubbishing Baker based on his time with us, fair enough its opinions and everyone is entitled to them. But if Robins takes him on then hopefully it will be a good move like its been with Doyle...obviously you would think Robins would take his fitness into consideration.

I think if it was the start of the season and it was Baker and Doyle coming back after they win the league at Portsmouth then people would have been more positive about it. He chose to go to India (understandable as it's big money) but we can't be a backup option for him to resort to if there isn't much else going on. He's been out injured all season, he says himself he doesn't know when it will be, he trained with us for a bit but doesn't now. I think it's safe to say nothing is going to be happening for this season, if at all.

Didn’t Reid want out citing a “gentleman’s agreement”
He has a decent 20 mins on Tuesday and nobody says owt. Baker was thrown out the club then moved for 10x money when we offered him next to fuck all
There’s a big difference

If he's fit and prepared to sign some sort of pay as you play deal then great.

Not sure what that's got to do with anything, Baker is injured so can't play even if we do sign him?

On the whole, Bakers time with us he was rubbish.
Him and Murphy I thought were both bang average players in the championship. Both looked world beaters in L1. He had one good season with us, moved on and got POTS for MK in L1 and relegated and let go the next.
I'm not saying he was a bad player and not saying (if fit) I wouldn't tale him back for our promotion push! After all he has had more promotions than any other current player in our squad.
I just think his career with us has been slightly over exaggerated by quite a few!

Baker was on £8,000 a week at one stage here. For a journeyman from Southport he did pretty well out of the club.

Can he play in a few u23 games as a trialist to see if he would be worth giving a contract to I'd say he would do well to be fit by the end of the season with his age and type of injury it wouldn't be a quick fix

He choose India rather than us....for more money. I don't have a problem with that as much as the fact he hasn't played all season, isn't fit and there is no indication of when he will be fit ( and I doubt it will be this season).

Didn't you say you didn't rate McSheffrey even before his move to Blues? Howcome? He had scored 15 league goals the season before, that's the most anyone scored for us in the Championship and he wasn't even a striker

I'm happy to go with whatever Robins thinks on this. Doubt he'll sign elsewhere, would have happened by now. So if Robins thinks he's fit enough and / or we get more injuries then that's fine with me.

Baker if I recall correctly used to run about a lot give his all show show greats bits of skill at times and give the ball away in stupid places which usually contributed to us conceding a goal

I actually think he's the most loved CCFC player of recent time. The only other ones I can think with similar support are Willson and Armstrong who were much better players .Social media is full of people begging him to join back and calling him 'captain'
