Edl are fascists and racist you do accept that don’t you?
I would fight tooth and nail for the right for opinions to be allowed even where I’d spend my life arguing against them
I don’t want our club linked with gb news and seemingly many others feel the same
Simple as
Gb news is abhorrent some of the presenters stand for things I hate and think demean us as a society
I don’t want them closed down I want them to be ignored
The fact is the trust recognise this and they’ll be plenty of other news outlets reaching out to them over the next few days they don’t have to deal with them

GB News? Don’t like it? Fair enough, don’t watch it. I’m not sure that they be de-platformed? No. Neither should Al-Jazeera or British Muslim TV. If any of those channels wanted to do a piece on CCFC then fine, it’s advertising for the club.

Similarly, should the Trust decide that they don’t want to engage - fine. Freedom of choice.

In other news, SkyBet have done a nice montage on us. It could be argued that online gambling, if out of hand, is a serious issue and the club, morally, should consider ethics. (That includes current shirt sponsors)

I’m not looking for a row on this, just presenting an alternative angle.

I mean I get where you’re coming from and agree. It’s not better than Fox News - but considering it’s a legit media platform, you can’t just push a cancel button on things you don’t agree with.

It's more that it should never have been given a platform in the first place as it is so partisan. It's not as if there's a Guardian or Mirror TV News Channel to balance it (was the balance supposedly provided by RT?!). We used to believe in truth and objectivity in our broadcast media news in this country and it's very sad to be going down the American route where biased bollocks is spouted unchallenged.

I just find it bizarre that you don’t want our club linked to a media outlet because you personally disagree with some of the presenters views, but quite happy for it to be linked to a media outlet that spent decades covering up horrific child sexual abuse.

It’s a bit more than that mate. GB News is explicitly set up to promote division and conspiracy theories. It’s not just a different viewpoint, it fails in its basic responsibilities as broadcast media.

Bringing up Saville from decades ago is just ludicrous whataboutism. It’s understandable a large portion of the fan base don’t want to be associated with GB News as they are acting right now.

As I posted previously, please give me an example of a media outlet that doesn’t promote division. Just one.

As for Saville, it’s only about 10 years since the BBC were denying any wrongdoing.
Fans are happy to cosy up to an organisation that covered up the most horrific of crimes.

Whatever any of you think of GB News, nothing it has ever been guilty of is worse than what the BBC did.

Saw a bit of GB News last time I was over. First couple of minutes was all I needed to see. It’s the UK’s version of Fox News. All spin and half truths and in Fox News case, outright fucking lies. Not a surprise the Trust would be involved.

The older I get the more I realize that the news isn’t the news, it’s an agenda. I don’t watch it anymore.

You can give platform's, but from different sides: GB News IS a platform. They make no attempt at objective journalism whatsoever. BBC, ITV, Sky and 4 News at least do this.

You can’t compare really. Saville was awful but to claim that taints the BBC forever is a little silly.

As I say, this is a week ago, GB News’ failings are very much current affairs:

Ofcom finds GB News in breach of broadcasting rules for a second time

An Ofcom investigation has today found the Mark Steyn programme, which first aired on GB News on 4 October 2022, in breach of our broadcasting rules.

Plus even if Starmer did call him racist it doesn’t make it true. He’s a politician and just like all the rest is very economical with the truth. Anyway I can’t talk to right wing morons like you. Go and shag your flag

Yes, even them. If discussing an item, they have guests from different ends of the spectrum. They may turn out to have a corrupt head, but it doesn't impact their news output. You just don't get it.

See this is what I find confusing, and concerning.

GB news is morally reprehensible for breaching Offcom rules.

BBC is morally sound despite covering up violent child sexual abuse.

Me thinks a fair few on here are allowing their political allegiances to cloud their moral judgment

No you’re right I don’t get it.

Please explain why it’s morally wrong to deal with a media outlet that has an “agenda” like you claim, but it’s morally fine to deal with one that covered up child sexual abuses

Haha, I think the guy claiming GB News is better than the BBC cos Saville might be the one you’re thinking of.

On any objective measure they’re in completely different categories. BBC/Guardian/Telegraph/Times are one level of reporting. Sun/Mail/Express/Morning Star/Independent/New Statesman/Spectator another. The Daily Sport/Weekly World News/GB News are more entertainment than news.

I’m not denying any of that.

It’s the moral outrage that I’m getting at.

I don’t care if you like GB News or not. Like I said I don’t have strong views either way.

It’s the idea that it’s morally wrong to deal with them, but fine to deal with organisations that have done horrific things

After two treacherous decades, the uncertainty of where Coventry City will play next season - Arsenal or Ipswich - will be welcome...
