Have an AV receiver (Yamaha one for surround sound) with 5 speakers and a sub.

The sub started making some really weird noises, as if somebody was knocking on the door randomly.

Did a bit of googling that seems to think it's the receiver / amp rather than the sub, have ordered a new cable to rule that but don't fancy buying a new amp without properly testing. Havent got another sub to rule that out either.

When the sub is on normally the sound doesn't seem to match up, it's just random.

Edit: the power light doesnt seem to be on the sub, when I set it to off the light goes red. If I set it to on then pull the power cable it goes bright green for a second then off.

Anybody know any decent repair shops that could have a look?

Try Frank Harvey on Spon St. Not sure if they do repairs but they'd be worth having a word with, will definitely point you in the right direction:

Cheers, googling some more it seems some other people have had the same issue. Might give them a ring or phone Richer Sounds where I got it from (well out of warranty now)

Don't mind buying a new sub, it's more to make sure it's that before I buy one and it turns out to be the receiver

There’s a place on the seven stars estate that fixes av stuff. Sorted my sub out. I’ll see if I can find the name tomorrow

Is it DJ Henry or something like that? Are they expensive?

D&J Henry are useless Nick. I once had them out to fix an intermittent fault with the rear speaker outputs on a Pioneer AV receiver. I demonstrated the fault to their driver he took it away to be fixed. It was later returned to me with a note saying "no fault could be found".

That was not the first such incident with them. Of at least five items I've submitted to them for repair, four were returned to me in exactly the same condition as when they were sent.

And yes they are very expensive unless you are covered by some sort of warranty.

Am I the only one who thought the thread was going to be about Jack Grealish's failed Spurs move, or asking why John Terry has now left the club?

I was expecting it to involve Adrian Viveash.

yes it was them. I took my Sub to them, and they sorted it in a couple of days. I didn't think the price was too bad....much cheaper than a decent new sub.

Only thing I've ever taken to them, so maybe I was lucky that it all turned out OK... :|

A new sub will only be 100 -150 but it was more to make sure it was that rather than buy one and it be the amp.

I have a home cinema system, that now i have moved house, i cant re-equip due to my arthritis, so i'm on the lookout for someone who can do installations.
