People are surprised when we lose to clubs like Doncaster and Milwall; but they are better funded than us, and have better players in great depth than we. Why so surprised when they all beat us!?!

He scouted players to compliment those that others clubs have the financial wherewithal to sign. Compliment. Not build a whole team out of youngsters and bargain basement freebies!!

I think you'll find that a good number of them have departed this parish.

But why let the facts get in the way?

That'll explain why we can't score goals, or even have a modicum of attacking intent then, we don't actually put 11 players on the pitch.

We can't score as we have no creative midfield, nor pace to supply the balls the strikers need. Other clubs have. That's the difference.

We have signed less players than any other club in this division. What, in the name of Jesus, is so hard to figure about?

King, Turner and Gunnar scored 21 goals between them last year.....so yes it might be.

Problem is you've used reason and facts there to substantiate your opinion. People don't like that. They just like to call for the manager's head and not to have to both to think through the facts for themselves. Just like they did last time, and the time before, and the time before, etc, etc, etc...

Merely puncturing the Thorn is a great scout myth banded about so much, admittedly Westwood very good, Gunnarsson ok, but everybody with the possible exception of McSheffrey in tonights starting 11 would seem to be Thorn players.

If he can't make them play, then who can?

He's the luckiest manager alive to have such shite and hated owners that he has a bye off everybody.

Power without responsibilty as Peter Parkers uncle might have said.

Being in the play-offs last season was brilliant, don't know how it slipped my mind, because with them still I'd be expecting us to do at least as well as we did last season with them.

Your argument, Sir, in inane. Look at this evening. Henderson was the real difference. A player we cannot afford. Thorn stated a few weeks ago that we cannot compete in the loan market with clubs with higher budgets. He was referring to Barnsley.

He cannot motivate players to compete regularly beyond their capabilities.

Clubs with bigger budgets, better players and greater squad depths are beating us week in, week out precisely because of those characteristics. To imply that Thorn should somehow be able to motivate the average to reverse all of these facts is simply childish

i dont think it is a fact of motivation, they seem to be all working hard but probably using their energies a little unproductivily. I think it is more about we do not have the ability rather than the motivation.,

Nobody was expecting play-offs. Admittedly even treading water would be better than where we are right now, but you've kind of answered your own point. We finished 18th or 19th last season. We have since lost four or five of our better players and not replaced them. HOW DO YOU EXPECT US TO BE EVEN AS GOOD AS LAST YEAR LET ALONE BETTER?

so lets keep plodding on slowly into oblivion. If the manager is so impotent in this situation and nobody could do better then why have one at all, save some more money

I'm sure that there are teams in the Championship with smaller budgets, and what would would be considered a worse squad than what we have.

Don't totally disregard that teams with bigger budgets and squads are beating us, but we may as well never bother with football at all and just put out our respective balance sheets at the start of the season and declare the league places there and then.

Newcastle might be a tad disappointed at that mind.

I think he is on a one year rolling contrat which by my understanding means if you sack him tomorrow you pay him one years salary and he always has no more but no less than one year, so it wouldn't save us anything.

But even last season we had a small squad macca but had some decent players within it, we have cut the spine out of the squad and not replaced. I think apart from Bristol City, there is not a worse squad in the league in my view but maybe i am being overly negative tonight!

We finished low last year and have since had a negative budget - even the wages earmarked for King, Gunnar etc have since been removed. How can nayone have an ysmaller or a worse squad of players?

And if Thorn goes we'll get Oggy or Carsley. No manager in his right mind would destroy his reputation at a club with a squad of misfits and kids. We're stuck with the owners and players, like it or not. We could bring in a management team of Arsene, Jose, Sir Alex, Roberto, George and John but it'll still be the same weak squad.

Oh yeah and Ian..... Andy Thorn a rubbish footballer? Played in top flight for two clubs for several years and won an F.A. Cup medal. You admitted our squad wasn't good enough then said all we need to try is change the formation.... Erm.... Still same squad though....

Spare us and delete CWRs number from your phone.

Newcastle's position is a function of a friendly fixture list. See where they are at Christmas. Like it or not, a club's finances has the most profound effect upon the players they can attract, and the number they can sustain.

Allow me to turn this on it's head, I am telling you that we have signed fewer players than any other team, we have no loan players - unlike any other team in the league, our wage structure is the lowest in the league and we have sold or failed to retain our most high profile quartet of players from last season.

What did you expect?

fantastic. So we have a bunch of clowns in charge, an underperforming manager who we can't blame, underperforming players who we can't blame...............

Getting the feeling the thread blaming the fans for being fickle isn't far away

because over the 30 years I've been following them it always ends up being our fault

I don' think Arsene Wenger was any Pele either; but such logic doesn't appear to prevail upon Planet Ian

Surely someone with management experience would be willing o sign and have a chance of better results.

Do clubs in Leagues 1 & 2 not get new managers that turn things around?

We're hoping for one as well.

How do you sell a club to an ambitious manager saying "we have a squad of kids and misfits, can't defend, can't score, can't hold a lead, can't put 90 minutes together and have no real quality...... Oh yeah and we can't even afford loan signings so they're all you get and if you don't get us up by Christmas you're gone, what do you say?"

Do we have the lowest wage structure in the league? One of them possibly, but the lowest? You seem to have it as fact that we do though.

Turn it around on it's head again(until it's really dizzy), how successful have we been with high profile players, a high wage structure(in the not too distant past one of the highest in the league), and umpteen loan signings?

We don't know the wage structure - I would doubt we are the lowest actually.

It is absurd to think no manager who would consider taking on the club could not do better than Thorn. We don't know if they would but frankly it cannot get any worse.

Also the belief no manager would come in is equally non-sensible. In business it is never a bad thing to take over at the bottom. Expetancy levels are zero so the challenge of avoiding the drop would appeal. There is a doubt over SISU and the ability to recruit a manager - they have appointed 3 duds already (still at least Ransom wouldn't have a say in the appointment).

Ian the regular CWR gets stick but why? What does he say that is not right. He did call Thorn a clown - that's wrong - I don't find him very funny anyway.

The way I see it is that we shouldn't really have expected much more than this with what we've got surely?

At the same time though, I do have many reservations about Thorn's ability. I do think a good manager would have us higher up the league. The improvement would be minimal though. This squad as thin as it is, is still relegation fodder.

Thorn is the easy target in all this, but not the main problem. A new manager coming in now would indeed probably see a change for the better in our fortunes.

But only in the short term!
