London Irish probably suspended tomorrow. Those at the top of the game have sat there watching whilst a quarter of the top division have pretty much disappeared. Professional game is imploding in the country.

From a purely selfish perspective…. Is this the time for the Cov RFC Phoenix to rise to the top again.

Rugby’s problem is it’s chip on the shoulder - it thinks it should be as big as football.

it can’t accept they’ve tried to run themselves like football clubs without the appeal

until it accepts it will never be a major worldwide sport it won’t recover

They could just do a Wasps and blame SISU and Saracens for being in so much debt and never paying their bills.

Doubt that. One of the better run clubs, financially, in the Prem (which is why they are so low in the table). They're signing cheap lower league players and releasing better paid ones too.
Shockingly, the likes of Leicester are probably more likely to go bang (but not very likely tbh).

Most Prem clubs, and one or two outside.
There are scads of well-run clubs outside the Prem.
Skint, but well-run within their means. No thanks to the RFU.

Irish's deadline has now passed with no word re. funding.
There's a meeting between the players and the players' union and the RFU about to commence.
Could be interesting.

Isn’t prem rugby seperate from the RFU? I’ve no sympathy for the prem teams

What can the union demand? Their members are just going to accept lower pay in the championship - or I suppose England dropping their selecting only from the prem policy

Yes, but it's not that simple.
The RFU oversees discipline etc for all clubs, and no club can play in any English league without RFU membership.
And I have no sympathy for the Prem cartel either - even less since they sold their souls to CVC.

everyone but the people involved and rugby fans could see the house of cards was likely to collapse but everyone was told they were idiots and didn't know what we on about

has any sport ever turned pro and then completely collapsed so quickly? its mad when you consider they could sit back and look at the financial mess in other sports and put something in place to avoid the same mistakes

what now, run as a 10 team league? are there other teams in trouble, less games obv means less revenue and lower tv rights

the slightly ironic thing is that there's now a vacancy at a ground Wasps claimed rugby couldn't be played at, a ground very close to their traditional home. if the new owners could have got their shit together you could have a pretty decent marketing campaign around a club returning to its home
