Some people on this thread have got to be on the wind up. There's no way anyone couldn't tell the difference between CCC selling a stadium it owns to Wasps, thereby facilitating their move, and a company that is based locally expanding and opening an additional premises.

If anything Lucas should be questioned as to why, when the CT reports talks have been going on for months, she hasn't concluded the deal and has therefore left the door open for Cameron to push for the facility to be located in Wales.

You do know that changing the subject is the same as not answering the question. It's of little surprise though as your statement contradicts your long running mantra that it's all Lucas's fault.

She clearly had involvement in the wasps deal. It made her very proud. At a business conference at excel she proclaimed a key selling point for businesses to move to the City was that there were a lot of hunky rugby players on the stand - who could resist them?

She has to sanction the sale.

A council has limited powers to attract motor manufacturers. They will decide what's best for them in terms of cost infrastructure rebates and employment. Lucas will have no sway in the process.

So the sale of ACL to Wasps was all of AL's back but when it comes to enticing other businesses into Coventry it's nothing to do with her? Wasps was a special case then? She went maverick on that? The full council meeting and vote to approve it was a sham as AL had already signed it off without the approval she needed to do so? Is that what you're saying? Is that a Grendull exclusive?

Tony, CCC owned the Ricoh therefore had a huge involvement in who it was sold to. CCC do not own Aston Martin and therefore have limited involvement in where they decide to base themselves.

If we're going to give Lucas the credit for things like this then shouldn't she be questioned everytime a local business moves out of the area or goes bust?

I haven't said it was all down to her. However as council leader and running a council backed by her party it is actually a nonsensical argument to say she wasn't a key influence. She often said when "it was not for sale" and from the way she spoke you would have thought it was her personal property.

She has no influence over something she doesn't own. Unless you are saying everytime a business moves from the area that's her responsibility.

Absolutely. But it you're going to blame her for things that the council have involvement in regardless of how small or large that involvement is when things go wrong you have to give her the same acknowledgment for the good things. According to Grendull she's only in control of the evil buttons. Which is absolute nonsense. If it came to light that Aston Martin had approached the council about a development in the City and the council told them to jog on Grendull would be all over the story with an AL is evil angle.

I never said she wasn't a key influence. The only person suggesting that she's a non entity is you. But only on the stories that suit your mantra, otherwise it's all her fault.

No matter who they are (labour or Tory), no matter who they represent and no matter whether it is at a national or local level they all (politicians) are self seeking, selfish, w*nkers who are afraid of the truth, afraid of openness and afraid of the people. Lesson for all of us...time for us all to get on the street, stand up and be counted and show all these nonenties that it's our lives and our future and we want some real say...not a vote every few years...in our country.
At local level can the people deselect a councillor like they can an MP?

They will have to step down tonight or I will guess it's civil war in Coventry. I believe Lucas is everything the grassroots is warning the Labour Party about. Out of touch politicians who refuses to listen to, not just the electorate but those in their own party as well. Exploits the mechanics of the party system so it doesn't need to listen to its own members, and got a healthy distaste for the local people by not taking in their views of heritage.

Lucas must go tonight. It is not a sign of weakness, dropping your leader is a sign that Democracy is once again returning to Coventry, and the Labour Party are broadening their horizons from being a Tory lite.

Todays paper is a joke, Wasps nominated for club of the year, and community club of the year?
They only turned up 9 months ago, and giving out free tickets does not make them a community club, it effects all the established clubs in the city.

Anyway, the Lucas issue is wider than that.

I have to admit to being slightly (well, a lot!) disappointed in her. She seemed to have the nous to be able to carry people along, and be aware that she needed to get people, be they her party or the general public, onside.

The current regime is a disaster however - not even because of its decisions (we can all either agree or disagree with those) but thye manner in which they're carried out.
