Some will see this as the Council caving in, some will see this as a last ditch attempt to save the club. Either way I hope it works, but doubt it will.

I can't help but feel it's all hopeless, and they know it. Each party is now trying to publicly look like 'they did the best they could' or 'they tried the hardest, publicly' to stop the inevitable.

It is claimed Sisu boss Ms Seppala was unhappy the council leader and chief executive Martin Reeves – also a Ricoh director – had not attended last-ditch negotiations last week aimed at keeping Coventry City at the council-owned Ricoh Arena – rather than switching ‘home’ matches to Northampton Town.

my issue with this is simple. If the leader of the council cannot be bothered to attend the most important meeting of the clubs history, she then has no right to say this:

“I’m writing this open letter to you today because, as leader of Coventry City Council, I want to do everything in my power to keep our football club playing in our city and make the maximum use of the Ricoh Arena as an engine to drive growth and create jobs in the city.
"None of us wanted to see a day like today when the creditors meeting due to take place later is likely to see an outcome which is not in the interests of the city, ACL (Arena Coventry Limited) or the football club.
“I know that you want the Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) to be approved today.
“I want a solution that will see the Ricoh Arena continue to develop and flourish with the Sky Blues playing a role in this success.
“I understand you will want to get ownership of at least some of the stadium and access to some match day revenues.
“But you need to understand, on behalf of the city council as freeholder, 50per cent shareholder of ACL and owner of 7.5 acres of development land I will protect the asset of the Ricoh Arena for the city and its people.
“I still think there is a chance that you and I could sit down and hammer out a way forward. I have not been leader of the council very long and I am prepared to take a fresh look at all the issues that have brought us to this stalemate.
“Thousands of Coventry City fans have taken to the streets to express their passion for their club. “Hundreds have told us how they feel. Lawyers have told me not to make public statements about this issue, because of ongoing litigation.
“I am saying to you, woman to woman, that we need to end this nonsense now.
“Give me a call. You have my number. The sooner we meet up the better. I will meet you any time, any place, anywhere.”

all i can say is : i would not be expecting a reply Ms Lucas. your horse bolted a long time ago when you were slagging off the club owners. If your going to cave in do it with dignity, go to Joy Sepallas office and have your lawers with you - with a contract all ready printed and ready to sign. sell the arena and the land to the club - that was the deal when the owners obtained this club, show some dignity woman, your desperate and your making the council look like desperate little kids begging for a playstation the night before christmas.

one other thing you might want to opologise to Ms Sepala before you consider her attending a meeting with you.

Such a meeting could work. Provinding Ann Lucas has any negotiation power to agree a deal.

It shows what many have suspected.

Mrs Seppala has been demanding that the CVA is signed as a requirement of negotiations.

You cannot have a requirement of negotiation. That completely defeats the object of a negotiation.

What would you have thought if ACL said we will negotiate the rent with you. Once you have signed a contract to say you won't ground-share anywhere else.

Once that is done than we can chat about the Ricoh.

People would be out raged.

When will Mrs Seppala get her head around these things.

It is not always about her demanding and getting what she wants.

That sentence is just as much a signal to her allies that she won't sell the family silver cheap.

You think she shouldn't protect the asset of the Ricoh Arena for the people of the city?

How on earth do you know this? How do you know she couldn't be bothered? How do you know there wasn't another reason?

Fact is, you don't.

Technically she should. But from a purely selfish perspective I couldn't care less. The Ricoh means nothing to me and there is absolutely no reason at all to go there if we aren't playing there. It's in the middle of a shit hole for starters.

Yeah if you were being picky, you'd take that particular sentence as a demand, but I'd rather look at the desire to look at things from a fresh and open minded perspective, and the desire to move things on rather than spend time backing each other up with antagonistic statements.

It's a good lead for our council leader to take, a good attempt to shift the discourse somewhere that at least has a vague hope of getting us somewhere, even if it doesn't in the end!

Anne Lucas statement shows to me that Seppala wants 100% ownership of the Ricoh.

To me this is a clear message from Lucas that the councils 50% share is not for sale.

“I am saying to you, woman to woman, that we need to end this nonsense now.

er - woman to woman? one issue there though Anne. Joy Sepala is a successful multi million (or billion) pound business leader, with a track record of being the the world wide director and vice president for the worlds second largest bank. Her business is one in which Coventry City Football Club is a wee cog. on the other hand Anne you are - well to be blunt and not disrespectful a no mark labour councilor. see the comparison below: somehow i dont think Joy Sepala will have time for - after you didnt have time for her in the talks last week... good move that Anne and now your begging.

(
Ms. Joy Victoria Seppala founded Sisu Capital Limited in 1998 and serves as its Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Seppala serves as a Manager at Huntsman Advanced Materials LLC. From 1995 to 1998, she served as Worldwide Head of the Special Situations Investment Group at Paribas Corporation in London. She joined Paribas Corporation as its Vice President in 1992. She worked for a number of years in the mergers and acquisitions departments of Kidder Peabody & Co. Incorporated, Drexel Burnham Lambert Incorporated, and Mitsubishi Trust & Banking Corporation. Ms. Seppala serves as a Panel Member of The Takeover Panel)

Ann Lucas was born in Coventry in July 1949 and has lived here all her life. She has been married for 43 years to Ray, has two children - Claire, a teacher at a local school, and Ray jnr, a salesman - and six grandchildren.

She joined the Labour party in 1978 and was the union rep at Whitley Council between 1967-72. She was the GMB (hotel and catering) shop steward between 1978 and 1988. She is Chair of the Bablake Ward Labour Party, and the vice-chair of Coventry North West Labour Party. She is also a member of the National Policy Forum, which gives grass root political input to shadow ministers at Westminster. She is a member of Labours National Executive Committee and is National Champion for domestic violence issues. She was a member of Coventry City Council for Bablake between 1995-99, and was re-elected in 2000 (in Holbrook).

Ann lists her interests as reading, politics, dancing, socialising, and eating out. She is a Coventry City Football Club fan, is a season ticket holder and has been going to Highfield Road (and now the Ricoh!) since 1962.

She has had a flying lesson, joined a white water rafting team to raise funds for cystic fibrosis and has done a parachutrejump to raise funds for Baby Lifeline.

That's the past. The present is that the current council leader is prepared to take a fresh look at things.

That's good isn't it?

Shows flexibility doesn't it?

Shame all sides on here seem determined to keep their entrenched positions, read into said letter what it suits them to read, and not follow the spirit of said letter, and take an open mind themselves.

The more I read that piece (Drexel Burnham Lambert Incorporated), the more I imagine her as a Bond villain sitting in her Penthouse in London with a shark pool including a booby trapped bridge over it.

As soon as Ann Lucas walks over this bridge to meet her, she is shark food!

I hate sisu for what my club has become under them. But this statement sums the problem up.

“I want a solution that will see the Ricoh Arena continue to develop and flourish with the Sky Blues playing a role in this success.
“I understand you will want to get ownership of at least some of the stadium and access to some match day revenues.
“But you need to understand, on behalf of the city council as freeholder, 50per cent shareholder of ACL and owner of 7.5 acres of development land I will protect the asset of the Ricoh Arena for the city and its people."

The Ricoh Arena is either a separate business or a football stadium.

...and since when have matchday revenues been an asset of the people of Coventry???

Actually tsb when SISU came in they were well aware that what was first on offer at the Ricoh were the 50% shares in ACL owned by the charity. That is why SISU included a valuation of that option at £1m in the accounts of SBS&L, an option given to CCFC Ltd that predated any involvement by SISU. But why stop facts getting in the way of hysterical spin.

As to the comparisons you quote, I just find that pretty childish. My mums bigger than your mum actually proves nothing even if one has balls of steel and quite frankly offers nothing to a solution. Ever heard of David vs Goliath?

I think the letter from Anne Lucas is a last ditch effort to broker something, something you might expect a reasonable person to do, but I wouldnt read in to it that the council are about to roll over and sell the freehold to SISU or even 50% of ACL.

Got to say some of the hysteria on here is getting pretty pathetic. Just my opinion
