Pretty sure I did too. Can't have been that exciting because I can barely recall it. Wasn't it a draw, and a disappointing performance by us?

...if it did happen it would have to be an early kickoff. don't the scottish players have to be up early to deliver milk?

It was the Anglo-Scottish Cup Winners’ Cup.

David Smith made his debut for us iirc. Frank McGarvey equalised for them.

The crowd was about 4K in a cold night in December at HR and the second leg (supposed played at Easter) was quietly shelved due to convenient fixture pile-ups on each side.

It was a one off invention called the Anglo Scottish Challenge that wasn’t completed out of apathy.

I'm surprised they've never arranged a pre-season friendly up there and called it the return leg. Sure we've done tours of Scotland pre-season since.

I remember going to this pre-season game Matchday Memories: On This Pre-Season Day 1990 – Sillett’s Sky Blues (& Smithy) Win Oxon Cup : Coventry City Former Players Association || CCFPA and being somewhat surprised when we lifted a trophy at the end

It was staged due to the european ban at the time. The second leg wasnt played due to a number of varying reasons.

If so then it should involve the original teams.
So we'll be down to 10 already.
Not sure about them?

Would be great if the second leg happened might be a world record for the longest break between cup ties.

I was there, stood at front of the Kop near the couple of hundred St Mirren fans - it was freezing and not a great game. Would be interested in going to a 2nd leg though.

From memory I think we didn’t play the second leg because of a fixture pile up and an injury crisis. I remember we had virtually no fit central defenders and St Mirren agreed not to play the second leg at that time.

wouldn't mind a couple of games up there in pre-season. And completing this has a bit of a novelty factor which would be a nice change for pre-season

However many points you got for a pre-season away game in Brechin, it wasn't enough

Interesting that less than 3 years before lifting the FA Cup, only 4 of the players who would achieve that are in the squad.

Also, Tim Dalton couldn't have known on that bleak night in Brechin that he'd soon achieve global fame in the Bond movies.

I don't remember half of the kids who were here back then. Pearce and Butterworth would both be off at the end of the season, of course and a lot of the familiar names then came in.
