Was just talking to someone about the game on Saturday and I don't know if it has been previously mentioned on here and apologies if it has but what the fuck was Andy Webster doing for the first goal?

If you've not seen it the balls come forward, Webster heads it (sort of) and it ends up at Freddie Sears who tucks it in, all the while Webster jogs back with no incentive to go and win the ball back or make up for his error. I don't mind to some extent if the mistake is made and Webster works hard to try and get the ball back, but I am sorry Saturday from Webster was absolutely dire. If he plays tomorrow it'll be three points Gillingham.

I thought same Robbo- if it had been Jordan Clarke- OMG he'd have been hung drawn and quartered by some, by now?

Webster looked so lethargic and didn't appear to even try to chase down? That said he's a third division footballer in a third division team so maybe we are expecting too much?

Yep agree it does look bad but he had a late fitness test because of a sore neck and that was obvious.

Sorry but I have been saying all season he is shit, turns like the Titanic and moves about as fast. Do not know what Pressley saw in him to be honest, he might have been good 10 years ago but certainly not now.

With their lack of pace and passing ability I dont see how you can play Webster and Seabourne together. Id have changed it after 20 minutes on Saturday and put Willis into centre half. Clarke or Christie could have gone in at right back.

KP I think Jordan has been brilliant since he came back into the team since the Tranmere Game has been looking the consistent defender that we saw at the start of the season.

I hope we aren't expecting to much for him to do his job and defend. Gent I can see what Pressley saw in him, experience, but lets be honest we will get nowhere with defending like that, I hope Jordan Willis starts at CB tomorrow.

I haven't seen him since he came back but I like Clarke, good anticipation and confident on the ball. I'd move him back into RB or CB (depends which way round you would prefer Willis and Clarke) and bring Adams back to LB

The only thing I think Pressley saw was a translator.

Agreed, Webster seemed to sleep-walk through the first half and Seabourne was not much better. Meanwhile, Colchester's central defenders were excellent and succeeded in closing down Akpom and Wilson, even though there were signs of a good understanding being developed. We have been weak in central defence for most of the season, whichever combination has been played. Probably needs a central midfielder to sit in front for added protection but neither Fleck or Thomas seem to be working back when the defence is under pressure.

Hoping for better against Gillingham.

I'd of made the Willis - Webster change, but I'd of put Blair back at LB and put Marshall/McGeouch/Moussa in on the left.

To be honest neither Fleck or Thomas are really defensive minded midfielders, Fleck played a lot better on Saturday IMO.

Webster does blow hot and cold but what about Seaborne he keeps giving the ball to the opposition.
Pressley thinks highly of that pairing though so expect more errors and soft goals.

It's hilarious really, because in terms of attacking prowess we've got the best selection of players we've had for a while, the majority of which have the key attribute of pace. But defensively we've been horrific all season and if it wasn't for Murph in goal we'd be in serious trouble. Cyrus will more than likely be off in the summer and Jordan Clarke, despite having an ok season isn't good enough, so you'd have to say right back is an area to strengthen. As for the centre halves I think Willis will be ready to start next season, I'd pair him with Seabourne as Webster is a) too slow and b) doesn't seem fucked tbh (or at least he didn't running back for their first on Saturday). I think Blair is and will be a good left back, hopefully returns to his 'Robins' form at the start of next season when he's completely recovered from his injuries

What we lack is a nasty bastard I think. People may hate Doyle or Michael Brown but if we had one of them sat in front of the defence letting Fleck spray passes about.

Yes there is a time for passing football but how many goals are lost by us failing to just put our head through it, or foot through it and putting it out of the ground while we regroup.

A player like that, but not that. I still think players like Thomas and Daniels are scared of getting physical

I guess it would be the experience as well, I would much prefer Doyle over Thomas.

End of next season. To be fair to Webster, he is usually a decent reader of the game (which makes up for his lack of pace) and usually good in the air. However, when he gets it wrong, he doesn't recover very well - what annoys me more is his seeming lack of desire to remediate his mistake, as raised by Robbo. Would like to see Jordan Clarke and Seaborne as a pairing again, thought they worked quite well previously with Seaborne's height and Clarke's pace.

The defence definitely needs changing for tomorrow. I'd be calling Adams back to play play LB, Clarke RB, then Willis and Seabourne at CB. For me, although Willis will put a shift in, I don't think he's a RB, not whilst we have Clarke available to us for that position anyway. That's if he doesn't want to recall Christie, who hasn't cut it in recent weeks.

Webster did look out of the game from the off on Saturday

I think it was stated earlier that Webster was a fitness doubt.....was not at the game but from what I have heard it sounds like he should have messed the game like Baker. It did not seem like he was 100% fit from comments. I though Clarke and Webster looked decent at times when I have seen them this season. I think Webster and Seabourne too similar in terms of attributes.....think it has to be one or the other with Clarke or Willis other centre half with our current squad. I would go with Clarke at the moment with Saeabourne......or have three at back with two wing backs in Adams and Christie which I have mentioned in a previous thread.

He had a minor neck injury apparently leading up to it, we had enough options to change it if he wasn't 100% so I'm assuming Pressley considered him to be 100%

Wassup....don't it go with your 'hate CCC' agenda?

Maybe Webster was the best we could afford on what was available. We all know that if SP had more pennies to spend our squad would look totally different. We have to be patient until this mess we are in is sorted out. At least we have a couple of players capable of scoring goals from nothing.

I'd agree with that Dimi, I do personally think given 18 months Jordan Willis will be first choice CB for this Club he has all the attributes in my opinion, is he better with the ball at his feet compared to the other players who have played at CB this season? All but Jordan Clarke I'd say.

And you say I pounce on people

Did I say SISU? Is it CCC's fault? Is it our fault for not going? Did I blame anyone?

For whatever reason we are playing in Northampton. Our income is only about 10% of what it should be. Are you pretending our finances are looking good? Could we afford better? We can't even afford the players we do have.

Indirectly yes.
We have this player because its all the club can afford.
It's all they can afford because, for whatever reason, they have decided to cut the clubs income.

Pouncing, I was replying because a thread about a player making a boo boo is trying to change into an in depth account about finance shite again. You don't need to mention SISU, you just need to look at your username to know how the post is going to go

You are right Mr SISU lover. Just have to look at the name

And if you think that was in depth I can be more serious about finances other than just a short quote if you like :slap:
