COVENTRY City caretaker manager Andy Thorn revealed he tore up Aidy Boothroyd's tactics book before leading the Sky Blues to a well-deserved 2-2 draw at play-off chasing Burnley.
The Sky Blues parted company with Boothroyd on Monday following a run of one win in 16 games that plunged them towards the wrong end of the table.
However, an intensive tactics session from Thorn later that day laid the foundations for an impressive City performance, as Lukas Jutkiewicz's and Gary McSheffrey - the latter with a magnificent solo effort - struck in between a brace from Clarets forward Jay Rodriguez.

Coventry's three-pronged forward line of Jutkiewicz, McSheffrey and Freddy Eastwood caused Burnley a whole manner of problems.
And Thorn praised his players for embracing the changes.
"I thought the boys were absolutely fantastic," he said.
"We changed quite a bit in a short period of time.
"We loaded a lot of information into them in one go and I thought they were awesome.

"For large periods of the game we were in control against a very good side pushing for promotion.
"I like the way we kept the ball, our work ethic was fantastic and they were a credit to the football club.
"I felt, maybe, we deserved a little bit more from the game.

"That's what we've got to build on, those are our standards and we have to go on from there."
Leaving an immediate imprint on the Coventry team in such a short space of time is likely to mark Thorn out as a front-runner for the Ricoh Arena hotseat, but the ex-Wimbledon defender refused to entertain such talk.
He added: "I'm an employee of the football club and I love the football club.
"I told the chairman it would be an honour to take control, but this game is only a start.
"That's all it is and no-one is running before we can walk."

It sounds like it was a very brave move and it paid off and some of the players who have been out of form lately played out of their skins like Baker and Clingan.

Great to read such positive post match comments, feel a bit better about things already...

(I wasn't in or out of the 'Aidy out' brigade by the way!)

we'll see, it caught Burnley off guard mainly because you have no idea what to expect under a new manager, i'll remain on my stance for now though, it was still wrong to sack Boothroyd.

Same here, I think we have to remember that the player are now probably trying to make a name for themselves in terms of being sold or being chosen by the new manager. But hey, if Thorn can get them to perform like that every game why not make him the manager? Or are we going to do what we did to Eroc Black, get rid of someone who knows what they are doing?

Its a positive and promising start, but the real test is the 6 pointer with Preston on Saturday. If we dont win that, we are in big trouble.
