Disagree. He’s taking the chance because he backed himself to make the finish. Having looked at the replay, the passing lane wasn’t as open as I thought live.

It’s a good thing that he wanted to take ownership, we’ve been far too guilty of players not taking risks when they need to.

if we’re honest, we all knew from the start of the season that midfield wasn’t going to be good enough, we haven’t got a player that can grab a game like that and get us through it, not sure even a new manager would change much, stick with robins and get him some help in January, you’d have to ask serious questions of everyone if we don’t add anyone

He didn't even look up to see if the passing lane was open.

If he’s passing it he needs to do it almost first touch, take it on his right to bend it round the remaining defender and into space. As soon as he’s taken that touch outside it’s never realistically on.

I agree with that. My issue is he hasn't lifted his head up once.

The lad needs time out of the first team and in some reserve matches to rediscover how it feels to score goals. For him confidence is essential to getting a performance out of him, and he clearly has none.

Everyone saying the other way round on a split second decision the other game, here's 5/6 touches before Simms gets his "shot" away.

Any professional footballer should be able to square that ball at some point for a better opportunity to score.

How do you know what he can see exactly? There are times, for example, Sheaf looks completely unaware of what’s around him before he turns 2-3 players.

He backed himself to score, which is fine, provided you go ahead and do it. Not that Norman would necessarily have put the chance away either.

Because when I watch Sheaf, I can see him checking his shoulders before the ball is played to him, he has a picture in head before he gets the ball.

It was clear from all the replays, Simms didn't lift his head up once to look where he was, or who else was around.

He's nowhere near good enough to find that pass, let's be honest. No guarantee Bassette finishes it either.

It's remarkable that a player who's spent so long in a PL academy controls the ball so poorly.

I'm not sure if Simms had attempted to pass it he would have got it through, they had two defenders back . Obviously I had the benefit of a replay .

Even Matty Godden had passes like that in his locker. Simms has never shown that he does, it isn’t his game.

He may have done once but he's not exactly banging in the goals for Charlton. Although as the moment Simms makes me nostalgic for David Rennie & Julian Darby that's how bad things are .

Obviously not now, but you’d prefer 21/22 Godden to Simms playing like this.

What an irrational take - got a check where Godden was at when he was 21/22. Simms deserves credit for a decent performance where he improved the team from his introduction. The chances didn’t quite fall tonight. There’s this irrational scapegoating because he didn’t make a reasonably difficult pass and chose to back himself instead.

If anything the chance their GK makes a great decision to come out early after Wright put him through was the better chance.

Knocked my pint over watching him not looking up. It’s like playing with 10 men.

Admittedly Simms had a better view than me behind that goal but it’s very easy to look at a still or a slow motion replay and say he should have passed. In my view it opened up for him to go on his own and I was screaming for him to shoot. Fair play for taking it on and just unlucky the keeper made a pretty good save. Doubly unlucky the ball bounced out to their player rather than ours to tap it in.

I was at the game and thought Simms did well when he came on. He did more in his short time on the pitch than Assanti did. He hit the target with his 2 shots and the keeper saved them. It happens.

He is desperate for a goal and when he picked it up he likely hoped it would open up for him. He could have passed, he might have nailed it, he might not have, Bassette might have scored, he might not have... but he put himself about and probably looked more of a threat in his cameo than the other strikers.

And I say it again - he is only playing the last 15 at the moment. He didn't do much about the goal but TBF he was on the bench. We couldn't get out of our own half for spells before he came on. Why the f#k is he the centre of attention here?

Not sure what other people are watching tbh. The defender cut off the pass well.

At the time I never expected him to pass it.

And I spent ALL last season telling everyone on here that Simms was a shit footballer, and got absolute dogs abuse for saying it.

His goals last season masked the fact that he's totally fucking useless, which may sound weird since it's goals he was bought for, but for me you could see that he was just having a purple patch where everything hit him and went in, (wolves in the cup is just 1 of many examples)

As soon as he hit a poor run of goals it was obvious the fans would see his lack of any footballing talent. He got away with it for the first half of last season as we had patience while he took time to gell, apparently!

Simms is a big lumbering striker with all the negatives of that but very few of the benefits ie. poor in the air, can't hold it up, not particularly strong, not aggressive.
He's very very limited.
You'd hope coaching could develop him but we're not seeing it.

I actually thought we started seeing a player break out last season. He started to be far more involved, but he still looks like he’s never actually seen a football before let alone kicked one.

There was a couple bursts of speed last night and I thought he actually put the effort in, same as last game but the quality just isn't there.

I don’t think any players are consistently coming out of games with any real credit at the moment. Little field of good play in games maybe, or signs that someone is getting back to their best. There seems to be a general air of malaise, low confidence, and poor team spirit and togetherness. Which we haven’t had for years, probably since players like Michael Doyle were here as leaders

Admittedly it’s Robins under pressure. But you have to say the poor run has coincided with Kings arrival. It’s clearly a morale/confidence issue. I wonder what impact he’s having

Goddens passing was underrated though to be fair. That’s just not simms game….getting it down the channels quickly and turn the defenders…keep saying it but need to do that more regularly whoever’s up top

I still think on this day he’s very good at this level but lacking in confidence. Not sure the constant chopping and changing of strikers has helped but I suppose it’s up to them to nail down a place

He's very much a confidence player.

His first touch is awful at times though. Not sure how you can coach that out of him.
