On about needing another striker in another thread, but what about this Cody McDonald character, apparently been injured for ever, when not injured lacks fitness, apparently. Is he for real or what.

League 1 (should we end up there) is where he'll shine. Looking at his goals, he seems to prey off mistakes that only our defence makes in this division.

From a sisu point of view you can understand their reluctance to add another striker to the head count

I personally think Cody would fit in with the team better now. His movement is excellent but Juke always drifted away from him leaving cause his runs to be pointless! If we get him fit do we need another striker???

Strangely since Juke has left (say Southampton in the cup) which was 7 games ago we have scored 9 goals. in the previous 7 games we scored 5 goals. Ok its only 4 more but it seems now we are more likely to score than when Juke was up top for us!

Sorry but I don't understand anything SISU are trying to do. The only feeling I get from them is

do tell ?

We have Platt and Nimely

O'Donovan has gone, Eatswood is finished and McDonald might not play this season

So, we have 2 strikers ...

I can definitely understand it from Sisu's point of view, we are likely to go down, so why would they waste their money on a new striker for us?

However, from our point of view we'd like a new striker.

I havent seen anywhere that Cody is out for this season? I keep seeing hes coming back to training in a week. Even if he is unfit, least it gives us an option to throw on, better than nothing. and nothing is potentially what we are looking at with this 'Loan snag' - ( aka SISU being cheap )

I think Platt and McDonald would make the perfect partnership for League 1.

What sums up Cody McDonald for me is you get to know and recognise your own players but I wouldn't recognise this bloke if he passed me by in the street, not a clue.

I think we should offer Platt a decent contract, ok hes getting on but to me hes playing as if hes 10 years younger (if only he was) Cody is good enough at this level, just needs the fitness and the right partner!

I wouldve agreed a week ago, however, with the pompey situation and our win the other night we're at least in with a shout. A 3 month loan of a half decent striker would cost around £150k in wages (if no loan fee is payable)

Surely worth the punt. The club is more saleable if its in the championship than league one !

I do agree with you, but I genuinely believe Sisu think we're doomed, therefore any short term investment is not worthwhile. I don't think Nimely or Norwood will be on big wages at all and probably a percentage is being paid by their parent clubs. Someone like Hulse for example would be out of our price range RE wages.

Also if we could get in a target man from a Premier League team, it is likely they will be better than Platt in terms of goal contributions.

At a push you could include McSheffrey into the reckoning there-and a Shaun Jeffers who looks horrendously out of his depth in this league.

We need Sheffers where he is at the moment. Always seems to do better running towards goal than waiting for the ball. Also, don't he take the corners? Not much chance of scoring from them as well as taking them.

Yeah, he's one of our smallest players isn't he? Guess the reasoning is he'd be good to have in the box for when the ball drops down. Point is, in Nimely we have someone prepared to run at defenders, show some skill, and provide more of an edge up front. If he gets injured, we'll be back to having Platt up by himself which isn't a comforting prospect!

not writing him off long term, but he has never been fit and ready for the 1st team in 5 months, so "resuming full training" indicates we could almost write him off this season
