So happy that is over.

We are basically locked in for half a season now. Time to stop the tantrums and get behind the team.

Despite a horrible summers prep there is loads to be positive about. Keeping the big 4 is a miracle in my book. Pretty encouraged with the two CB loans. Palmer looks an upgrade on the likes of Shipley. I feel like we'll look at the free market to fill in gaps if there is any value.

Things might get worse before they get better due to how the fixtures have fallen but keep the faith. We have proven we can beat the big boys (Fulham.. Brentford) and even if we don't we'll still have 3 home games in hand to pick up points.

Actually reminds me a lot of our first season back in the Championship. Really early on there was a patch of 5 or so brutally tough fixtures. This place was in meltdown but I knew they would pull it round when the games levelled out.

Keeping the big 3/4/5/whatever is not the victory people think. The club needs to sell players to survive and we’ve missed the chance to do that with our most valuable players when they’re at their peak value - Gyokeres will end up being sold for a fraction of the sums being mentioned this summer, or leaving on a free.

Yes, no-one likes selling our best players, but the only reason to keep hold of them is if you seriously think they’re going to drag this current squad to the next level. If anyone still thinks that after the first four games I’d love a pint of what you’re drinking.

This squad is crying out for new investment, and we just missed out on our best chance in a decade to get a ‘big’ transfer fee. We’re like a cold and hungry family stubbornly refusing to sell the Mercedes parked in the front drive.

Not exactly angry - I’ll enjoy watching Hamer, Gyokeres and O’Hare play this season. I’m sure I’d have enjoyed another season of Maddison, Wilson, Bayliss etc too.

But now we haven’t sold one of them, what’s the plan?

So in your view the squad as it stands is good enough to challenge for promotion?

True but there is still January to consider. Gyok for e.g has only done it for one season, before that he was an unheard of nothing player and we took a chance on him. I'm not even sure Robins expected 18 goals from him. I know I didn't. If he can replicate that again this season or look like he's on his way to doing that into January then he'll show he isn't a one season wonder and his value should be maintained or even increase potentially. I doubt we can afford to lose them on a free and run down contracts though either so I see all 3 gone between Jan and next Summer - I can't see any of them extending their contracts further to "help us out". My point being I think there will be plenty of opportunity to get decent fees for them all.

So if you are Blackburn you are keeping fingers crossed Brereton Diaz stays, and its much the same for us. We have kept the core of our side intact (minus Hyam) which is a positive.

There are various posts on here already saying they wouldn’t mind if he left on last night’s showing etc etc

Gyokeres has been brilliant for us but people are underestimating the chance that he could turn back into a pumpkin. And if he does have another amazing season here then he only has one year left on his deal, so we likely end up selling him at a discount - could be a big price to pay for the privilege of watching him score 20 goals in another 16th place team this year.

I was taking about the fact we have West Brom and Norwich next.

Might get worse before it gets better, if we do lose those I just hope people can keep a bit of perspective (don't hold much hope the fans will as extreme panic seems the default nowadays)

Obviously not written off those games, we have surprised the big dogs before.

I'd imagine the club are gambling on the form of the individual players continuing from last season and will look to sell one or more in January, which traditionally is a sellers market.

It'll offer them the last chance to really leverage their true value and take advantage of the disparity of clubs who use the window to make up for a poor half of the season.

Half get what you are saying but if the owners were that desperate they would have cashed in on the cheap.

There is January as people have mentioned. Also there is a slim chance we will new owners by then.. who knows.

It’s not about being desperate, it’s about doing good business. Buy low-sell high isn’t rocket science.

If Gyokeres really was worth £10 million this summer as many people said, then it’s mad that we didn’t sell him, even if we only got to reinvest a fraction of it. People are talking about him like he’s Bitcoin - his value can surely only go up!

No. There is a balance between market value and worth to us. If SISU want to sell they know staying in this league is vital. Our squad from last season is good enough to achieve that. Taking players out who are key to our style could be suicide. You stick don't twist.

If clubs weren't prepared to pay our (high) valuation then you say he stays till Jan. The value drop isn't going to be as drastic as you make out. Clubs can be desparate and pay over the odds. He could have a blinder and add value. He could have a shitter but taking him or the other big players out of the squad on the cheap now probably isn't worth the short term gains.

Do you honestly think SISU chose not to sell those players because they were worried we’d be relegated if they did? I wish they’d had that foresight in 2011!

The value of keeping Gyokeres another year is what - another 16th place finish? Is that worth £10 million to you? We should have sold him, replaced him, repaired the squad and moved on. Too late now of course.

This is of course assuming such a bid was on the table. The real bid to accept was £5 million for Hamer, if genuine and not half made of add ons. But this is all without foresight of the O’Hare injury too.

You are dragging up 11 years ago?! Ok.. it's basically a totally different regime from then.

I never said keep them all season. January has a window. They could cash in then. But I also don't think the value drop is that drastic with a year left, especially if they have good seasons.

This is all acidemic, as other have pointed out there were no reported bids other than a low ball offer for Hamer and interest in O'Hare who got injured. Not actually sure what you want the club to have done? Hawking players about isn't going to "Maximize Profits"

I'm just hoping for a reduction in WUM accounts so we can get back to football!! The way I see it is we have come through the window with the core of the team intact which you have to hope that with more championship experience will be better or as good at least as last year. Early days but Palmer looks miles ahead of Shipley (or bright) and playing Waghorn slightly further back looks to be getting some value out of him while keeping Godden and Gyok on the pitch. With the defence its a bit more of an unknown but Bidwell seems to have stepped on and I liked what I saw so far with Panzo and Doyle with the Palace lad yet to make much of an impact. We still have a few players out and starting to blood some youngsters in Tav and Eccles. I'm not seeing this big raging fire. Look beyond the first few results where I haven't seen us completely played off the pitch yet (in the league) even with all the disruption. Also take in to account players will now know their future and settle down at least until January. I'm hopeful we will start to see some results flowing.

We have Norwich and West Brom up next, which could quite easily lead to 5 defeats on the bounce. Most teams’ supporters would start asking questions, especially when coupled with the form towards the end of last season.

Who cares who we have next? Over the season we play the same teams. Looking at our league position a few games in and creating a disaster cult doesn't really help anyone. By the time we get in to some winnable games we will be back in the flow and hopefully O'hare will be coming back too.

Tell me about it, every time I come on here at the moment I have to brace myself. I don't think we will be in the play offs this year but I'd be surprised if we weren't roughly where we finished last season at the end of this one.

Adding Palmer in to the mix who looks a real talent to me. Already seen him tackling back breaking up play which is supposedly something he wouldn't do. Comfortable on the ball and an eye for a pass. Looking forward to seeing more.
