Clutching at straws gents. As people have said, he's since had two poor management spells and hasn't had a job since.
Probably needs to put food on the table.
My theory, for what it's worth, is that potential new owners are lined up who insisted Slade went and it was they who instigated Robbins return, not SISU. As many have said, something is going on, otherwise I doubt MR would have agreed to come back.
As has already been said, surely this is no more than an indication that Robins' own managerial stock has dropped since he left us. With failures at Huddersfield and Scunthorpe on his CV he isn't a very attractive proposition to many clubs, especially as when you look at this last four clubs, he left three of them with win percentages of around 30% (over 92, 68 and 71 games). Yes, he left us with around 50% win percentage but that was only over 33 games. So, I would say that needing a job to pay the bills would be the reason, rather than being made any wild promises by Fisher or a takeover being on the horizon.
Still, good appointment, I would say. On paper it looks better than giving it to Ricketts and hoping that he cuts it.
Yeah but now its new new ownersWasn't it new owners who insisted slade came?
Indeed. His stock was high last time he was with us, now it's low. He's been out of work for over a year and has bills to pay. I can't see it being anymore complicated than that.
Are you suggesting after failures at Huddersfield and Scunthorpe that his stock is high?Doesn't really wash for me about his stock his low
I'm sure he has earned decent money across his career, but his playing days were before the big money came into the Premier League. I remember reading that Matt Le Tissier's biggest contract of his career was £3,500 basic wage. Good money for most, but I doubt Robins would have earned this, and he hasn't ever had a 'big' managerial job that would have earned him a fat contract. Failure at his last two clubs mean that League One clubs won't be putting him at the top of their wishlist and maybe he sees that by coming back here he has the chance to win a Cup right off the bat and boost his CV. He knows that we're already dead in the league, so he won't be blamed for taking us down and given the complete lack of success that we have had, if he brings us back up next season he'll be a hero. Plus, if he signs a three year contract and fails he'll probably get the boot after 1 year and get a nice big payout.Doesn't really wash for me about his stock his low and needs to put bread on the table. First of all I'm sure he is not short of a few bob surely? Don't know but would hardly think he is on the dole.
Secondly he could get a job with another side who isn't protesting every match and in complete free fall. Not to mention budgets cut every year and compared to 4 years ago when he was last here it's no comparison.
Now it could be as simple as he wants a job and loves football which is more plausible than needing a job. But still I guess his contract length my tell us a bit. 3 month contract and we know it's nothing give him 3 years and I would feel a bit more optimistic.
Because he did a good job here, and pointed out the club needed more support from the council when he left?why had Fisher re-appointed him.
Let's look at it another way, why had Fisher re-appointed him. He had a track record of sticking his fingers up to Fisher and consequently Joy Sepalla and sisu and pissing off don't need to spout from the roof tops about how bad it is working for these owners and Fisher
“I spoke to the owner, I sought assurances and didn’t get any assurances from the owner of Coventry,” he said as he was unveiled today as the Terrier’s fifth manager in as many years.
“I absolutely wish them all the best, they work their socks off and as I’ve said before that club needs support from Coventry City Council .
“That led to a decision to want to speak with Huddersfield and that’s how the decision has been arrived at.”
Are you suggesting after failures at Huddersfield and Scunthorpe that his stock is high?
Are we relocating and sharing the ground with Barnsley where Robins lives do you think?Think it's fair to say the appointment and speed of it surprised even shocked us all. Don't think for a minute it was a case of thank you and goodbye Mr Slade then a phone call saying hello Mr Robins fancy a job ! His sudden departure from the post in 2013 was just as much a surprise and shock. Amongst the reasons sited by MR at the time included not getting certain assurances by his bosses and lack of help from CCC, so what has changed ?
I never held anything against him jumping ship, was probably the only effective thing he could do against issues and more importantly Tim Fisher and Steve Waggott.
Fisher is still here recently. spouting cutting budgets and player sales, hardly encouragement for any new manager.
Issues with ccc affecting the club still there really but shifted from Council to primarily Wasps who won't talk due to JR2
Situation here potentially worse than 2013, probable relegation, imminent loss of training ground, loss of Acadamy cat 2, no home ground in less than 18 months, proposed further budget restraints, player sales maybe enforced and chief protagonist Tim Fisher still here and spouting.
So what has changed for MR to even consider a return ? What assurances has he had ? Does he know something we don't know ? Does he know Simon Jordan ? Yes there's more question than answers, at the moment.
He's been out of work for over a year and has bills to pay. I can't see it being anymore complicated than that.
Do you understand me or not?No but I am suggesting he could get a mid to lower table league 1 club. Easily.
