In fairness I always backed McNulty and supported him when some fans were getting on his back. Unlike some other players he was constantly coming close to scoring and I felt like it was only a matter of time.

A big name (look at Yakubu) means nothing, but quite often a negative name can be something to be genuinely worried about.

It might just be a matter of time before this bloke and hiwula click and start scoring though? Hiwulas movement was very good at times

The more I read about this Bakayoko the less I think he’s the other striker Robins promised seems more like a right sided midfielder to me

Hiwula might not score as many goals as McNulty, but I think he has goals in him and far more assists. I was a big McNulty fan but; only based on one game, I think Hiwula might be a more all rounded player?

Cannot find a positive note on this guy & 9 goals in 100 games. Hmm!
Why can't we go for Doige now that I can see positives In.

FGR want £750k for Doidge
He's a grrafter but also needs quite a few chances for each goal he scores

Thanks for your input, it's much appreciated.

I've sadly heard the same kind of things said today, especially the bit about it being ridiculously stupid business. Unfortunately it might take a bit more than that for some of our fans to take that, or you seriously for some reason.

Exactly the same things were said about David Mcgoldrick aka Mcgoldraught who forest fans laughed at being as bad as Robert Rosario when he joined us.

Yes, sometimes they are wrong.

They are also sometimes right though...

Which is why you let him play a few games to judge him, surely?

I doubt this is the McNulty replacement. I’d imagine that Robins will have a loan signing lined up after this signing.

But if he had scored say 30 in a 100 games half the championship would be after him and his fee and wage would be treble. How many had Marc McNulty scored before he signed for us and in how many games ?

I think Hiwula is the most likely to score the most and I think he should be given a go in the main striker role. That's process of elimination though.

Equally is it wrong to err on the side of caution? Surely we shouldn't just ignore what other fans from Walsall have been saying.

Some of your logic is truly staggering. So because some fans say a player we’re signing hasn’t played well for them, we should never sign anyone?

Two other League One clubs have tried to sign him so the professionals obviously see something in him.

Looking at the young, developing forwards we have at the club, and are trying to sign, it seems to me we are trying to find the next £ multi million sale in a way that wouldn't be too damaging.
We have:
Jones, Bayliss, Allisani, Westbrook, Hiwala, JCH, Biamou, Shipley, Ponti, and possibly Bakayoko, plus maybe another signing.

That's 10 or 11 players vying for 3 or 4 places depending on formation, and assuming Andreu will be in the team when fit.

What by sitting at home whinging about him? If he's dog shit after 5-10 games then by all means.

Should really have a clean slate when he signs and be judged on that.

He may come in and play a completely different role then before, he may get more service to his strong points.

Did I say that? I think it is your imagination.

All I've said is that firstly, this is not the type of striker we should be signing. Secondly I've said many Walsall fans have warned us. That second part is fact.

It's up to you if you choose to blindly ignore them.

That doesn't mean it is right every case though does it? We had bidding wars for many of our shitter players over the years.

Hells bells the lads getting slaughtered on the Walsall fans forum. I’m 100% sure this is a signing for a nominal fee to boost the u23’s and nothing more.

So you are not slightly uninspired by this potential signing given we are still trying to replace McNulty?

Not really sure what you are trying to achieve by trying to put me down for being cautious over a player other teams have warned us about.

If you can't ignore the Walsall fans then how can you ignore the fact that others clubs are after him and prepared to pay money for him? You can'y have it both ways.

McGoldrick always gets rolled out whenever we are signing a forward with a poor reputation, but he had played at a higher level and was a quality product of the Southampton production line. I was really excited by his signing as were my mates and brothers-the only negativity I saw about it was on here! Whereas this bloke seems, from any objective evaluation of his career to date, to be rubbish

Staggering, really, that's a bit dramatic. Of course we are going to tune in to fans of clubs where these guys have played. They may be bitter and twisted views who knows but I doubt it. Sadly at this level there is so much movement of players and no stability of teams. We are going to have to gel a whole crowd of individuals again

I've not said anything to write off Hiwula you absolute nut case.

Has something happened in your personal life? You've being extremely out of sorts recently.

Because we've had over a month to replace McNulty and the situation appears to slowly be getting worse.

So, from having no McNulty to having a partial replacement is worse?

Of course final judgements can be made when the window is shut

Considering we won't play another game by that point, it does sound rather like you've written off what we've got.

And he has a terrible goalscoring record. One alone would be something we could perhaps treat with caution, both is cause for outright concern.

I'll wait and see how we are at the end of the window, then I'll see how they do when they play for us and form an opinion rather then slate him before he has even signed.

People werent really shouting from the roof tops that we signed McNulty.

I'm confused by it so want to see how he will fit in and what robins has planned for him

What type of striker should we be signing then Mourinho? Forgive me but I’ll trust MR before I trust your erroneous bleatings. It’s been repeatedly said on here he doesn’t appear to be an out and out striker.

Come on Nick, Robins needs to take the advice of the dongos of this world, there are loads of guaranteed 20 goal a season strikers out there, all you need to do is look.

When mcnulty signed i was absolutely delighted. Anyone who watches lower league knew we'd signed a 20 goal plus player. He just needed to find his feet. This guy on the other hand, admittedly doesn't look inspiring but we'll see!

But in terms of finding the 20+ goal player... does anyone else not think that Andreu could be that guy if he continues to play behind the striker as he appeared to on Saturday?
I think he has potential to score a fair few and Jones is certainly capable to get over double figures as does Hiwula ... so although we may not have 1 source of 28 goals we will get those 28 goals from Andreu and Jones?

I saw enough on Saturday to have me excited for a very positive season. However I would like us to sign Chaplin or someone different to Biamou and JCH to add a different option.

Amadou Bakayoko could leave Walsall this summer

Apparently a lot of clubs have been looking at him for some time because he has potential to develop. He's 6ft 4in, quick and has a decent touch - he could be a real handful if he gets the right development. He's only 22, the Walsall fans I've spoken too all say he has ability but has been inconsistent, which happens with young players. He was playing as a lone striker in a really poor team. If Saturday showed us anything it's that whoever we have upfront is going to get some decent service.

Am I allowed to think we've had a great window, improved the squad and that Hiwula is a good signing while also thinking we need another striker and Bakayoko isn't the answer?
