Free sports on virgin it’s on 553 not sure if it’s on sky it’s played on an artificial wicket in places like Benidorm and Cyprus it’s sometimes on in the mornings so I watch it after I drop the kids off at school.

422 on Sky. Its brilliant and its on pretty much all summer as its actually several different tournaments under one banner.

One team was 6/6 a couple of weeks back

I did see that 6/6 game, some of the fielding is hilarious but some is amazing a real mixed back. Some of the teams names though

Great final wicket partnership…dug us right out the shit. Gutted mahmood didn’t get his first ever 50. Thought he bowled well last test as well. Let’s hope he does the same here as total still looks light

Ball is doing all sorts. If its like it tomorrow too then itll be interesting. It was like watching wasim and waqar swinging the ball round corners when they took the new ball.

Batting fourth may not be much fun on there unless it flattens out.

After generations of pace bowlers the West Indies have produced we now have some bloke who would make Robin Jackman look like Michael holding running through the England top order

These blokes don’t know what an easy tour this is compared to tours of the past. England have a blank spot against bowlers who just put it on a spot like that Aussie did in the winter.

Is Root signing his resignation or the goodbye card for Collingwood both hopefully.

this is a lame attack you’d have thought they’d at least have had Malan in the squad and really playing at number 3

I had forgotten about him these conditions would be ok for him. Olly Pope seems to have become a specialist drinks carrier. The way Lees is batting Sibley is a much better bet and has made some technical changes which should see him involved again fairly soon.

Root should be at number four.

Malan is apparently a difficult character and needs strong management. Root has to go. He’s a great player but a useless leader

Root has removed Anderson and Broad as he struggles to manage them and Malan is obviously the same. Malan strikes me as a tough South African compared to the ultimate posho in Crawley. Lawrence looked like a prize twat leaving a straight one.

Agree. Really like him as a bloke as well but his captaining of the team has been poor, from selections to onfield decisions, not least flogging certain bowlers and inability to get bowlers to deliver to plans. Shame but it’s just not worked.

Low point rarely seen since mid to late nineties

West Indies have a pop gun attack and a brittle batting line up. What their bowlers in the past would have done god knows

Leaving Anderson and Broad at home has backfired. Batting is fragile and Root has to be fired as captain. Weak spineless leadership

Robert Key will probably take the helm. Thankless in a way but this really is starting at the bottom and the only way is up

I’ve said before though if everyone’s fit and the right players are picked, we’re not as bad as recent results suggest. Just been terribly managed over the past 12-18 months. Batting needs work !

Will the West Indies be able to get the 28 required on what must be a minefield.

Will root do the decent thing and resign tonight.

I dunno. We have a lot of great bowlers but we cannot bat for toffee, in terms of openers weve never replaced Strauss let alone Cook, Root is world class. Lawrence is young and will be inconsistent, same as Pope. Bairstow only turns up when he’s pissed off. stokes world class, Foakes not a great batsman but by far the best wicket keeper. Buttler shite red balplayer.

crawley is going to live off that ton for 18 months, not convinced by him.

we need a serious reset and somehow get our batsmen to learn to play the longer format

You do wonder what the batting coaches are doing !

Ps I’m not for a minute saying we’re a good team, just that selections, rotation, mixed priorities, management etc has made a bad situation worse. It was only 12-18 months ago when we’d beaten Sri Lanka away and India first test away (before they put a load of dodgy pitches out). Things have just unraveled badly since. Batsmens heads have gone

think it was Vaughn that said you could only really make a case for one of Englands dismissals being a decent ball, the rest have just been wickets thrown away and in exactly the same manner they've been doing all winter. As you say we have a stack of coaches and analysts, why isn't the problem being solved as soon as it comes up.

Collingwood isn’t the right man and I don’t think Tres is the best batting coach either.

In time I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ian Bell as a batting coach and Jimmy Anderson as the bowling coach but not for a while yet.

Analysts are the problem. There’s not enough instinct and ability to think for themselves.

theY said in 1 ashes tests “ the data says they’re bowling in the right areas and they should be getting them out”

too much statistical based plans, rather than adapting to the situation. For me root needs a lot of hand holding. He’s a crap captain, but there’s no stand out candidate, Stokes already has too much pressure on him, broad and Anderson are being faxed out. The only real alternative is Bairstow - and again he’s in and out.

Root needs a coach that talks him through it. Langer fell out with the Aus players because he’s too intense, he micromanages - he’d be perfect in the current set up - I also think this with my personal favourite Gary Kirsten.

at the end of the day though we’ll only go so far until the batsmen around Root become test batsmen and not just a team of Graeme Hicks and Mark Ramprakashs

I've been of the opinion you have to keep Root as there's no other option but think we've moved past that point and now there's a danger its going to impact his batting.

As you say you can't have Anderson or Broad as they don't play every game, Stokes has just been out for months with mental health issues so doesn't need that piling on and pretty much nobody else is guaranteed to play.

Do you take a risk and pick a younger, inexperienced, captain with the idea they will be in place for several years through a rebuild? If you watch the documentary on England becoming the number 1 test team they sat down and came up with a clear plan on how to get there. We don't seem to have anything like that at the moment, we stumble from disaster to disaster.
