Will SISU let us terminate contracts of the likes of Vincenti and Beavon? There are costs attached. We might be stuck with them.
An aged winger does not seem Robbins' style-not least after the failure of Vincenti and in a different position but the same principle, Beavon. The only veteran that has worked has been Doyle and he is a special case

I've heard that Vincenti and Beavon have been told to find new clubs. Unsurprising really.

Rodman does not play in a position that we currently need cover for, I think it’s a case of people putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5!
Beware of internet rumours.

We don’t have a right footed winger. If you cast your memory to just last season, Vincenti and Devon Kelly-Evans had to start on the right because Jones was injured and Bayliss hadn’t found form on the right yet. A player like Redman would offer an alternative style and balance to the way we play.

We still need a RM, CB and ST before the squad is complete and even a GK if one is available.

You think Willis and Davies are up to it in L1?

Their performances last season gave me no reason to think otherwise, so yes.

Judging by our grand total of 1 goal from about 8 defenders in 46 games, we need goals from set-pieces. More importantly, we’re in a better league so could do with increasing the quality all over the pitch in all honesty. If Davies is so good, why did Pompey let him go so easily? McDonald’s form dropped off massively so you have to ask yourself if he’s good enough for L1. I like all these players, but it’s very unlikely the goal of back-to-back promotions without signing better quality players.

Pretty sure ‘better days’ and/or ‘I Saw Shaw Score’ said we were in for one too on a thread a while ago. GK/RB/CB/DM/RW/ST is what we were looking at IIRC. They’ve been very accurate so far, especially on Ogogo and Sterling.

I think once we have somebody who can take a corner properly without it looping up in the air we might score. As soon as JMD took a couple against Stoke we looked dangerous compared to the ones that go miles too far.

Exactly. To put that game into context, our defenders scored double their tally in that one game than the whole season.

If we could improve one thing from last season into this season, it would be set pieces 100%.

There's an element of that, for sure... But not all corners over 46 games were that bad that only Grimmer scored in game 2 or 46.

If we're able to bring in one that is guaranteed to be of better quality than what we currently have then I won't be complaining. The lack of goals (and towards the latter end of the season the inconsistency) from defence last season was an issue there's no arguing with that.

The issue Robins faces IMO is that he should be wary of bringing in too many new faces, as it could disrupt the chemistry of the team. But then again he cannot rest on his laurels and retain a player for the shake of retaining a player. Still, it's an issue that Robins shouldn't take lightly.

With McDonald I do agree with you. At the minute I have him down as a fourth choice CB behind Willis, Davies and Hyam. His form last season tailed off dramatically and the performance against Yeovil obviously rang serious alarm bells for Robins in regards to how he could cope with making the step up to League One.

Harsh on Davies, sometimes a player can be dreadful for one manager yet exceptional for another. So, I'll take that point with a pitch of salt as IMO, Pompey were wrong to let him go so easily as he was and will continue to be an asset to us next season. Similarly, Hyam will have no trouble making the step up. Robins clearly thinks the same otherwise why offer him an improved 2 year contract? Willis will have no trouble competing in League One again as he has obvious quality.

So if there's room in the budget for a quality CB then, again, no complaints from my end. Assuming Willis stays, McDonald certainly looks the most likely to depart as this is the type of CB we need - a Reda Johnson type who can command the defence with a no-nonsense style.

Admittedly, another RM/ST are priorities in my book as we're currently light on these positions. Improving depth is what Robins is currently trying to amend as last season this was a massive issue that nearly cost us promotion on a number of occasions.

Shrews have just announced he has left to join an unnamed rival club. A few sites (not credible just yet) saying he is on his way to Coventry.

Not convinced we need a 31 year old winger.

Was looking at the shrews forum after we signed Brown and Ogogo. Seems a few of there fans said of 6 out of contract players offered new contract they hoped the 3 that DID renew were, brown, Ogogo and Rodman.
A few bitter posters glad to see the back of them if they think CCFC is a "step up" etc etc. But the majority seem to rate him.

There is no rule, that's the point. Age alone tells us very little.

He has a history of saying they’re not interested in players and they sign the next day.

Portsmouth (who don't have a development squad) said he is a year or two away from first team football, which is why they let him go.
