Do you just spend the whole day starting threads based on how "woke" you think everything is?

Tbf in what way damaging? Is anyone who liked it before going to be put off because Alan Brazil says it's irrelevant? If anything the conversation has provoked more exposure.

Agree with this sentiment.

Just because someone disagrees with you, it’s not damaging. I don’t think it’ll stop participation and/or support of the women’s game. There’s plenty of people who enjoy the more family-friendly nature of women’s football and it has a niche in the market.

On a personal note, I do find it a little bit jarring when googling ‘England football’ and it defaults to the Lionesses for some reason. Likewise, when news outlets will clickbait a news story to make a big match or transfer story seem like it’s about the men’s game and it’s actually advertising the women’s game. It’s fake engagement.

These are minor irritations though in the grand scheme of things and Alan Brazil has a point (albeit clumsily put) about the women’s game piggybacking on the success of the men’s game.

In reality, if you care about the growth of the women’s game it needs to develop as a standalone product almost. It’s making progress and good luck to it.

I think the women's game had a real chance to become something different to the men's game..... however its been pretty clear over several years that "they" (the people in charge of the game, and the broadcasters) just wanted the same teams as the men's game up at the top.

The very cynical part of me thinks that the broadcasters and media are just seeing the £££ signs rack up if they can hype it up as another Premier League/Champions League scenario. I do wonder what the fallout would be if/when one of the major clubs decides to pull the plug on the women's side (not saying it will happen..... but there was plenty of debate on here that people would rather see any funds ploughed into a Premier League promotion assault for the men's team)
