Currently 1 up at Spurs. Great achievement to have knocked out the sides they have done on a fraction of the budget and be on the verge of the final. Should put the self-proclaimed best league in the world to shame

Had a few Barcelona/real Madrid “fans” asking me how Ajax have done so well without having players that they’d heard of, so now I want them to win it all.

Barca are signing a few of them in the summer, some others are going to other big spenders. They'll have heard of them soon enough. Interesting to note that they have blended players in their late 20s/early 30s with the young talents. Maybe we could follow suit...

I know spurs can still win the tie but Dusan Tadic may be about to play in a champions league final.

Great isn't it.

Tbh though Ajax are a great name in European football, unlike most of the nouveau riche of the premier league

Absolutely they are. Should be an inspiration to other similar clubs who've struggled since the oil barons got involved. Would be nice to see Celtic, Rangers or both make a return to the top table too

Has Dele Alli ever influenced an important game?

It's another one of those years where Ajax have a great team together but need to win now because they'll be torn apart in the summer.

A thriving academy... most PL teams should be looking at why they are incapable of doing the same.

The absence of Kane and Son is a big loss for Tottenham.
At least Son will be back for the second leg.
They are still in with a fair chance.
I'm thinking it will be an Ajax vs Barcelona final though.

Ajax have to develop their own players because they don't have the money to buy them.
EPL teams can afford to just buy players that other clubs have developed.

The only thing Ajax is any good for is cleaning toilets.

I liked that quote from the Ajax manager when asked if it was unfair that the Dutch FA had cleared their fixtures to give them an extra week off to prepare, he said we get 10 million from TV revenue Spurs get 200 million, is that fair?

I think he is a good player who has gone badly off the boil for some time. Don't like his personality and leaves his foot in, when his questionable temperament kicks in. He used to be a shoe in for the England midfield, but a number of players seem to have caught him up recently.

I'm a huge Messi fan, but I have a horrible feeling that Liverpool will beat them over 2 legs. As an aside, watching Liverpool fans pushing people/Japanese tourists into fountains, then p*ssing themselves laughing was plain embarrassing (blokes in their 50s/60s doing it)

It’s shameful. A few years back I was in Barcelona at the time they played man city, and in that very plaza their fans were equally appalling. Locals going about their day, between meetings etc, and a mob of a few 100 were pelting footballs at innocent people passing by, including women. It’s no wonder the English get a bad rep abroad.

Embarrassing is right.

Horrible that. It's mad that a few knobheads can spoil it and their future reputation for the thousands of well behaved fans.

Old men who should know better picking on people minding their own business, hopefully the club identify them.

Thing is you'd have thought that they would have travelled before and this sort of cunty behaviour is normal for them so why don't they have a travel ban in place already?

Fair play to Ajax though, I hope they win the thing. A great European football institution reduced to also-ran by not being in a glamorous league.

Why haven't they been playing in their classic red and white strip? Even when there is no clash of colours.

Loved it when we had that away kit. No idea why but I always associate that kit with Richard Shaw.

What a game that was.... you have to wonder where we would have ended up had we not binned our manager the very next game.

After these two results, can the premiership rightfully proclaim itself the ‘best league in the world?’

I think so.

95th minute winner against a team on a fraction of the budget and having trailed for 99% of the tie

Must be so proud

Like Guardiola patting himself on the back

No, it has 5 or 6 teams that are strong and significantly ahead of the others. Otherwise teams are staying in the league on short of 35 points. It's pathetic and uncompetitive.

I'm no fan of the premier league but Ajax beat Juve and Real who both have a significantly higher budget than Spurs.

Juve don't. Juve turnover 2018 €504m / £433m. Spurs turnover £388m. They made a loss on that.
