However much I may dislike the current government, I really hope for sanity's sake this remains a scurrilous rumour, and there's no truth to it.

I think this whole "Windrush" debacle needs addressing urgently! How can a government say they have to be deported "back home"? THIS is their home and has been for 60 odd years! They have worked, done jobs nobody else wanted and paid taxes and all other bills just as anyone else has. This is just so wrong!
As for the sick kid thing, I don't know enough what it's about so I won't comment. But the stuff I've caught on the news that shows the idiot protesters outside the hospital just goes to show that they are a sandwich short of a picnic!

deporting commonwealth citizens who have every right to be here and have lived here and contributed for over 50 years is left wing frothing, OK Adolf.

Heard a woman on James OBrien who was brought over from Rhodesia as an adoptee aged 3 in 1962 and is fighting deportation because she can’t prove she hasn’t been out the country for two years in that time.

Listening to her she sounded like any British person, clearly British through and through just to listen to her.

It’s not just Windrush, it’s the entire attitude towards immigrants TBH. I think immigration from certain areas should come down and I have big issues with lack of integration, but the thought that essentially British citizens are being treated like Jews in 1930s Germany makes me sick.

I thought JOB was overegging it saying May was racist (he’s usually over egging it), but I do think her approach goes well beyond “being tough on immigration”.

You still haven't read it properly, I wasn't referring to these Windrush people, it was a general statement hoping we do have rigid policy to remove illegals though or what's the point of even having a border force.

fair comment, but your initial post said you didn't know about the Windrush story but then went on to make a comment about illegal immigration.
As the point of Wingys OP was to discuss the issues of the day without veering off and trying to point score on other topics you can see why it looked as though that's what you were doing.

But you also claimed they would milk it for cash Ash.
They've been banned from being economically active Ash, Imagine If for some reason through legislation that happened in your world, would there be much left after 3 years in a straight jacket .

Targets for such things are stupid anyway. As daft as having a target for solving murders. All murders should be tried to be solved, all illegal immigrants should be attempted to be found... but that's totally irrelevant to anything else, and bringing it in is stupid as it's obvious.

Illegal immigrants, asylum seekers, and legal immigrants shouldn't really be merged. They're all separate entities.

Setting a target for removal of illegal immigrants just demonstrates that you're doing a dreadful job of managing your borders in the first place.

Amber Rudd has just abolished targets for removing immigrants the day after she said they didn't know they existed!! Another lie from the home secretary.

I've never known a government where ministers have been caught blatantly lying so often yet hold on to their jobs.

She also says she "never saw the memo" detailing the targets which she ordered home office staff to set in the first place!

It's a bit like the DWP claiming there are "no targets" for kicking people off benefits when their own staff claim they have been disciplined for not achieving the targets.

I think she'll go today. Rumours that she will and be replaced by Patel, though I think it's a bit too soon since her sacking to give her such a lofty ministerial position but I wouldn't put anything past this government.

I see they're intending sending a 63 year old woman back to Jamaica in the week ahead ,the article is making the assumption it was something already in the pipeline.
She's been in detention for quite a while at Yarls Wood.
Given the announcements in the week I'd have thought they'd be out of there .
Relating to this whole debacle, there is a court case ahead where activists managed to halt a plane taking off from from Stanstead, it has been delayed.
Guess what the charges are, Terrorism. :-o

Surely that would depend on whether her case is Windrush-related or not? If it's not then there's no reason why she shouldn't be deported with immediate effect.

I see the final act of the cretinous Alfie army was to release hundreds of baloons.....single use plastics filled with a finite and valuable gas.....blatant littering and pollution pure and simple.

Binned 2 of them during my dog walk/litter pick in my local park this morning

It's a shame that alfies name will forever be asociated with such a moronic mob of cunts.

Unfortunately that detail wasn't forthcoming in the article, which may suggest doubt, although at the same time another who had been there on notice and due to go was rescinded.

Just to clarify, the compensation was for the pregnant wife who was arrested with him. He neither requested nor received any compensation himself.

I see we're giving Turkey a diplomatic nod this Week with a visit from Erdogan.
See the Queen etc.
I wonder If Mrs May will bring up the plight of Kurds, Imprisoned media, judges, Academics etc .
If he centralises much more to his complete thiefdom he'll be heading into Pinochet territory.
Reliable ally?

Update ,over 50 victims of this deported .(Windrush)
Today there is another excellent article by Amelia Gentleman in the Guardian about a Chinese Student named Zixuan Qu.
It's doesn't relate in any way to the original point of debate ,but does expose the harshness within the hostile Environment innitiative.
I have no idea if she is guilty of anything but the accompanyimg video to the article shows how foreboding a knock on the door at dawn may feel.
The article itself shows that the HO and departments within it are all over the place.

Definitely a culture of promoting yes men and women into positions in the senior civil service.
I know some complete buffoons who are incapable of independent critical thought who are now senior civil servants, which is absolutely ideal for egotistical ministers.

Today (Grenfell).
After a study and review there is to be a consultation whether to ban flammable Materials.
This eleven months on from the disaster.
Meanwhile the Govt has stated £400M will be provided to Councils and Social Housing providers .
Considering there are 131 such blocks clad in this Material across Birmimgham alone it's a bit of a sticking plaster, whereas the DUP or Grammar schools on the other hand?

Back to Windrush today and the case of a
Pauline Pennant by Josh Halliday in the Guardian .
A UK Citizen with UK passport retired back to Jamaica ,70years old on a return visit with her husband for a Family Wedding in Croydon .
While here she fell ill and was admitted to Croydon Hospital where ironically she had worked for 30+years.
Diagnosed with bone cancer treatment was withheld until she paid or agreed to pay up to £4,500.
Subsequently she had the test she needed in a private facility, proving the initial Diagnosis wrong.
In the subsequent years she has been pursued for the money while back in Jamaica, fearful of ever returning.
She has against her wishss been paying in instalments from her UK pension.
Beyond comprehension IMHO.
