If the 'new' club had a large fan input (not necessarily owned by only fans as it may be wished that other forms of investment were sought), was based in Coventry and was in some way seen as a legitimate successor to a CCFC that left Coventry then I would have no problem supporting them.

Out of interest...Why are some people so adamant that the 'Phoenix' team are nicknamed 'sky blues' and must wear Sky Blue?

Probably because we need to associate it to the old club to keep some kind of bond going.

We need a football team to support in Coventry. That team in Northampton isn't ours anymore. It's just a Sisu plaything.

Im getting to the stage now where im thinking that they can shove it up there arses. As every week passes by i slip further away and take less interest.

How I'm starting to feel as well.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, but I think it might well be the last time I see the current CCFC play.

Don't particularly like the colour sky blue but any phoenix club must have this as its colour, the sky Blue Song is one of our key identities we owe it to Jimmy Hill to keep it alive, it isn't sung much at Sixfields.

Well hill ruined his good work by admitting he wasn't offering a review, so I read on

This however does indeed need highlighting. Surely the *only* reason *any* new club whenever it's formed, should be formed, is because all are equal, not some are more equal than others?

Well what are you here for? Your point of view is all that matters is it? So people cant speculate cant discuss the shit thats going on with their football club because it doesn't fit in with your vision? Doesn't it show how desperate people have become that they are even dscussing a breakaway club? Do you think it will happen ? Of course it wont there has been so little passion shown trying to save the club that we've got never mind starting a new one

If the football club are playing in Northampton then they don't represent us - the people of Coventry.

It may be difficult and upsetting - but we need to grow some balls and say, "up yours SISU, with your evil attempts to get hold of a ground you didn't pay a fucking penny for, by holding our club hostage".

We hold the power, not the council, not SISU. We provide the income - we can do whatever we want - and have the club play wherever the fuck we want!!!

People are right to consider a Pheonix club. But it has to be a Pheonix club. That can only be when Coventry City no longer exist or are taken away completely from the city and there identity changed.

At the moment we are still wrapped up in stand offs and legal battles.

In the meantime fans are left to decide if and when they turn out to support the club. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. You have to be true to your own heart and opinion in these situations.

One thing we can all respect, is we have all worn the sky blue scarf....respect the fan behind it.

Read on again, take it back, hill was wrong

There are some pretty sensible posts here, from my POV, and this is chief among them. Set up a club now, find out down the line SISU are fully vindicated... it would be the fans who kill the club if they set up a rival now.

Find out down the line SISU aren't, the resolution sees the club never returning to Coventry for whatever reason, and the fans would have a duty then to set up a new club.

But only then.

Not true, the impetus of a club moving into somewhere offers an opportunity for capturing the imagination, and capturing a fanbase who otherwise would be jaundiced, and lured away to Man Utd Arsenal and the like.

Keep the club away, now, and it's entirely possible that actually it would be better for the club long term than come back tomorrow.

Maybe not better for you, or me.

But don't underestimate the capturing of an 'event' and the use of that event to build momentum.

If the club is battling to return to the city then yes. We don't know what the future brings, and as of yet the future sees a verbal commitment from the club to return, while fighting to lay bare decisions it claims pushed it out of the city. At the moment, it's wise to see what happens there before jumping.

If it turns out that at the end of all this, the club has been pushed... and that's the result the courts decide on...then it'd be pretty silly to have set up a new club and, as supposed fans of our club, *we* had finished it off.

Split a fanbase, and you destroy the chances of either the current club, or a rival club, being successful as whatever our differences it needs you, me, OSB, bezzer, bigfatron, shmeeee, stupot... all of us, to turn up to give us the best hope of success.

So that's why it needs an unequivocal conclusion before any replacement club appears, because I want you sat in the same ground as me supporting Coventry City FC.

I hear what youre saying but the thing is sisu will just keep on stringing us along. Its not like they'll come out and say well were ground sharing for 5 years and after that were moving into rushdens old ground so you lot start a new club if you like.

SISU can't be fully vindicated! A Judge's verdict doesn't change what they have done to us over the years.

It took far far less than this for FC United of Manchester to be formed - it seems that many people will just sit back and watch the club die a slow painful death.

We hold all the cards here.

The club is what we determine it to be. AFC Wimbledon are Wimbledon of old in my eyes - and most importantly theirs too.

Surely none of us want to be still here in a year's time having this same debate?

We can all see this Judicial Review and numerous appeals taking years, and with SISU ultimately winning as they always do.

The club MUST be based in Coventry, or everything it stands for is dead. SISU have told us they aren't intending for it to ever play in Coventry again - so what exactly is it we're hanging around for?

There'll be a resolution in the JR one way or another (admittedly not ideal, and chances of the 'losers' appealing?);

The JR decision today might actually focus minds to settle out of court, it might actually make resolution more, not less likely;

At the moment the idea of a new ground's laughable, because they've not actually bought anywhere to build the bugger. Where it is is kind of important too even if it happens (not so fussed Warwick Uni, bit more fussed Warwick!).

It's not absolute of course, but there'll be a tipping point. Club losing JR (and its appeal!) and club not even having bothered to buy land (or having bought it in Solihull!) offers a slight hint.

Problem is it's not absolute, which is why much as the repetition of these threads bore me, they probably are valid for here.

Set up a club and it appears with the benefit of hindsight many are wrong, and the replacement club goes belly up however, and takes the 'original' with it too.

And then we're truly buggered.

In the meantime yep, there is Coventry Sphinx. Instead of thinking of a replacement for CCFC then I'd say they're the option to get behind and watch, and if enough people do that they'll expand, grow...

And if they grow enough then either there'll be a respectable non league club hangijng around for the first time since Cov Sporting, or something's there organically to take on the mantel of senior club in Coventry anyway.

I totally would, but not unless it is entirely a Phoenix Club and it can't be that whilst the mutant CCFC In Northampton still exists, which is why you'd have tiny crowds and a split fan-base. It'd be more akin to an FC Utd than a AFC Wimbledon. I'd tolerate dropping 3 or 4 divisions to have the club home and free of SISU's shackles and at the moment that a genuine re-launched CCFC comes into existence it is entirely the club that we support now, just as AFC Wimbledon are Wimbledon.

Rich I admire your passion I really do but can someone get anything done? Is there anyone that can run with this? the trust? someone in the industry? There seems to be a wave of support for this but I fear it may be all rhetoric and no action.

Doubt Brighton did either... but they stuck with it, came back, used the opening of their own ground as a vindication of the battles to get back, as a chance to capture a whole new fan base.

Doubt Charlton wanted to be away either but they fought for their club, fought against authority and made sure that pressure was put on those with the ability to bring the club back, until the club *was* brought back.

The focus of efforts was on bringing the club back however, not dividing it.

Rival clubs, while there's doubt... Enfield have probably paid off doing that, but I'm struggling for other examples. Enfield's level is also rather low too, it's at a low enough level to point out Wealdstone have been without a ground for years, but the fight carries on.

Newport County spent years away from Newport after a crazy owner ripped them apart. The club fell, the replacement couldn;t actually play in Wales, let alone Newport, if it wanted a place in the English pyramid. The fans however campaigned for its return, stuck with it... got its return, and got it back in the league too.

All different to us sure, and Newport even involved a new club, but the point was none of them gave up on their clubs because they played in the wrong place.

Instead, they fought for its return to its rightful place,
