The People reported today that Celtic are lining up a £650,000 offer for Le Fondre + 6.5k a week wages. And we have apparently offered an unknown amount of cash (Probably 500k) + Roy O'Donnovan. But Rotherham want either a defender or midfielder and Richard Wood's name has cropped up. Where do you think he will go?

All I know is if both Leicester and Celtic are interested we haven't got a chance.

The only thing that would possibly swing his decision towards us, would be that we can guarantee 1st team football every week. Not sure if Leicester and Celtic can give him the same promise.

I'm fairly sure Leicester aren't interested.

And there's no way Wood will drop to L2 and I don't blame him, he's a decent Championship defender.

Possibly he could still come to us. Depends if he wants first team football or not. If he's happy to sit on the bench and take his wages every week then Celtic or Leshtur. If he truly loves to be playing and wants forst team football week in week out, then it has to be us.

This will be evidence of SISU's intentions, if there is any truth in "other" investors in the frame they will make the signing of Le Fondre happen, if as i suspect it is bunkum then there is noway SISU will sign him or any other, lets just wait, look and listen !!

I'm not holding my breath either.

The board have to appear like they have irons in the fire don't they even if in reality they have no intention of signing anyone.

tbh I don't see much truth in the Wood rumour as I doubt Rotherham could afford Wood's wages.

Why are people convinced ROD should leave?? We're complaining we've no attacking players, and exchanging one striker for another isnt goin to make us any better off. OK people may not rate him but whilst he's here, lets give him chance eh?? I reckon he'll start Tuesday! We def need a striker up with Juke. Sheffers just didnt cut it yesterday (if he was actually upfront. I, like him it would seem, hadno idea where he was supposed to be)

Exactly. I think he was very hard done by not to have started on Saturday. We need to be adding to the squad, not leaving it at the same strength. O'Donovan was a 2m player a few years ago, whilst Le Fondre is no guarantee of being a hit at our level.

ROD was a 2million pound player?

I give you Kevin Kyle and Trevor Benjamin.

Means nowt that someone will pay a stack of money for a player.

OK then, he was our best striker in preseason and had as good a goal ration in L1 as Le Fondre has in L2. Does that mean anything?

I dont think we should be too quick to get rid of O'Donnovan, his scoring record at previous clubs is good. At Cork he scored 31 in 74, and Hartlepool 9 in 15. And he also scored a fair few in pre-season. I think we should be starting him with Juke

he has been plying his trade in the top 2 divisions of english football for the last 4 years, he is 25 years old and a striker yet he has never scored at either level in over 30 appearances.

will that do?

stats show he is better suited to league 1 or the irish league so he is better off there.

maybe we could loan him to rotherham and have him back next season when were in league 1??

ROD needs to have a run of games from the start to see how he does next to Juke. He can't do much when coming on as sub.

How many were starts and how many were out wide? And how many has your beloved Le Fondre scored in the top flight? Sorry, I like Roy, and I support our players.

Pre-season? Against the likes of Nuneaton, Leamington and Hinckley you mean?

He scored more than our other forwards!

He does deserve a chance! He looked more up for the task than other players did in pre season and more importantly found the back of the net more than other players did, irrespective of who the opposition was!

Yes not debating that, but it was against non-league opposition.

Think that is key here i think is that he didn't get a look in all season and when we tried to get rid of him and offered him up on a plate no-one at all was interested. What does that tell you? We simply couldn't get him off the books.

2007–2010 Sunderland 17 apps (0)
2008–2009 Dundee United (loan) 7 apps (1)
2009 Blackpool (loan) 11 apps (0)
2009 Southend United (loan) 3 apps (1)
2010 Hartlepool United (loan) 15 apps (9)

Was he actually offered out though?? Our board obviously knew what we were goin to have at this point; they had no intention of spending to bring players in, so why would they offer around under contract players?? also, when players not being kept were told to look for other clubs, it was made clear that ROD was staying??

Always remember The Hussey Principle: if Aidy didn't pick a player, pick him!

I recall Bothroyd saying we wanted to let him go but no-one came in for him.

Just to clarify those stats, a lot of it was playing out wide-he only even had one season playing up front for Cork. His next spell there was the Hartlepool loan. Over a season, that could have been 27 in 35. Would people judge him differently then? If he had a Mackail-Smith type return behind him?

He also turned around a struggling side when he went to Hartlepool, and most of his goals involved either long-range shots, or runs at pace during which he beat several defenders. Not relying on tap ins like Le Fondre.

Nothing wrong in giving O'Donovan a chance to prove himself.

Not at all Tommy. But if the coaching staff don't rate him and do rate LeFondre then surely they are right to try and get some kind of exchange going.

The problem is trying to persuade another club to take one of our cast-offs. Most clubs will know we have been trying to get rid of him. Not only that but O'Donovan might not want to go to Rotherham............

I honestly wasn't trying to make any point with those stats. Just wanted to put them up for all to see.

Over a season that could have been 27 in 35? I suppose in theory it could have been but football doesn't work in theory. Plenty of strikers had a purple patch and then not score hardly at all the rest of the season. That honestly mean nothing at all. We can all second guess.

If it's true we offered up ROD for Le Fondre then that tells you that Andy Thorn wants Le Fondre and not O'Donovan.

ROD scored well in pre-season, and even as those were against worse teams, everyone else was playing against the same team as he was and he still did better than them. I say give him a few starts, he deserves his chance. It would be a waste to get rid of him after barely even letting him have a go...
