For those like me who don't understand accounting, I asked ChatGPT to explain the accounts to me like I'm 5

Alright! Imagine Coventry City Football Club is like a big lemonade stand. Last year, they were losing money, but this year, they made a lot more! Here’s what happened:

  1. More People Bought Lemonade (More Money Came In!) – More fans came to watch games, bought tickets, and spent money on shirts and snacks. They even made extra money from a big cup game at Wembley!
  2. They Spent Some Money Too – They had to buy ingredients (like player wages and stadium costs) and spent more to run their own little shop instead of paying someone else.
  3. They Sold Some Special Lemons (Players) – They made a lot of money selling some of their best players to other teams.
  4. They Stopped Paying a Big Loan Shark – Last year, they had to give a lot of money to people they owed, but now, under new owners, they don’t have to pay interest anymore.
  5. They Have a Safe Place to Sell Lemonade – They signed a deal to stay in their stadium for at least a few more years.
So, last year, they were losing money, but this year, they made a big profit, and things are looking much better for the club!

Given the way it is presented in the accounts it seems a bit like £24m from Doug is basically him fronting all transfer fees out over that period.

Didn't he say once that he would fund infrastructure and the team would be self funding, (don't think that's the acual term he used).

Splashing the cash, fixing up the training ground, upgrading the management team, strong barnet for a man in his late 50s. Bling handing out Ls to the sour-puss'.

GIMOCs entire posting history minus the posts about players that his mate who works on the gate has seen come to the training ground and may or may not have identified accurately.

That's 1 person.
Do any of them relate to the way King is running the clubs finances? (I genuinely wouldn't know).

I've criticised King but not once about how he's handling the purse strings

Some people can't understand that you can criticise, someone for one aspect of what they're doing while praising them for another, it's too much of a challenge for them

I don't know a single football club operating below the PL that doesn't require this as part of its business model. Billionaire owners aside. Football players are the most valuable 'asset' for a football club. Gyokeres fee received was equivalent to more than half of the clubs turnover across a year in which we got to an FA Cup Semi Final.
Agree. however we are very unlikely to generate a Gyokeres level fee again in the near future.

This is a thread about the clubs finances, see if you can find a post from me criticising him for how he's handled the clubs finances.

I'll speed up the process, you won't find one.

Let's not pretend there weren't a fair few people giving him sh*t and branding him useless and stingy right before we dropped £3m on Grimes.

Fine, can you link the posts? I'd like to see them.
I've never criticised him for not throwing money about on players.
I don't want to go back to the club being riddled with debt through profligate spending, I've consistently said that.

Yeh GIMOC is usually here making out we're skint just before we splash the cash, then he disappears again. Usually take it as a good sign, things usually start to take an upward turn just after he's logged back in with the doom and gloom.

Nothing to do with intellectual superiority.

Its common sense.

You can say a keeper is a good shot stopper while also criticising his distribution.

Feels about right squad size around 23 to 26 players, gives you an average wage 20K a week so 1 million a year

We don’t average 20k a week. Probably only 4 or 5 players on that or above. I wonder if that’s the total staff costs? Players, coaching staff, shop staff, tea lady etc.

A lot of dislike for Doug was borne out of raises in ticket prices and really spiked when Robins was sacked.

At some point, we had to start to operating in a more professional manner commercially. The previous regime was never going to take those unpopular decision because the relationship with the fans was rock bottom.

Long story short - are we still viable short term? When do we need to start the fire sale?

Not an accountant but.

We are viable as long as Doug keeps giving the club interest free loans. Like most clubs at this level. Player sales help

@fernandopartridge is better at all this stuff than me. Is it right that the cringe yanks that Blues fans fap over are not giving interest free loans?
