Aaron Philips?
For who, he had a lot of chances here and almost all to a man wanted his head I'm a basket.
Not good enough

But neither have been replaced, well I suppose Turnbull is here now, but Reda Johnson hasn't, all three could have been contracted for 12 months and Mowbray could have concentrated on our inept midfield.

You are right, but only if we bring in better than Phillips and Martin. We have had worse in recent times. Phillips could still develop.

Would much rather have DKE than Phillips. How many chances Phillips get to become the starting right back? At least two or three. Squandered all of them.

Yeah we could do with Phillips giving away a few more penalties

But in fairness to Phillips he was a converted midfielder. He wasn't the best but did a job, we have no one presently DKE is just not ready yet which is why a years contract for Phillips would have been okay unless we splashed out and bought a ready made one....woosh was that a pig flying by ?

As I said in another thread, it's all very well getting rid of the likes of AP and AM if you can get someone better, but that looks a bloody big IF right now. Now we've not got replacement, letting them go looks bizarre.

It looks like a gamble rather than bizarre! Were you sticking up for AM at the end of 2014/2015 season?

Both poor players and Mogga was right to roll the dice.

Massive mistake letting Phillips go. Wouldn't have been on much by way of a wage, much more suited to RWB than the RB role he was in last season, and harshly treated at every turn by Mowbray.

And before you ask, yes I was sticking up for him prior to the summer. He should have been kept even as back up. We're now heading into a season with no real RB/RWB.

Well he got rid well enough but as far as I can see he ain't done enough dice-rolling for us to see what the alternatives are gonna be like!

Well I suppose in our current system Martin in back 3 has been replaced by Willis or Turnbull and Ricketts good solid pro.
I liked Martin personally but from reading ratings seems Ricketts and Willis have been pretty solid - two clean sheets out of 4 league games?
Also Harries has also been getting some rave reviews and he would not have had a chance arguably if Martin had stayed?

Phillips would prob play right wing back,,,,,,more of an argument not replaced but Rose and DKE have played there this year would Phillips be better then both of those? Not so sure,,

.......................RCC.....................
.......Ricketts.....Turnball..... Martin.......
Phillips .................................. Haynes...
....................Vincelot.......................
.......................Vlad..........................
..........Jones...............Reid............
......................Dan. A......................

Not a bad little first 11
But would you still be able to afford Martin, Phillips, Turnball, Dan A, wages without selling Vince and letting Martin and Phillips go.

In a perfect would we could have kept Vince Phillips and Martin and built on that team from last year. That in my opinion is the only good way to get success
Get you base foundation and build on it.
I was hoping the Maddison sale may have allowed that to happen.

And only 1 of that team would have been a loan.

Harries, Willis, Turnbull, Ricketts and Stokes upon his return if needed as cover are more than enough to form a back 3 capble of competing in this league, and probably better value for money than last seasons CB's

Don't see too much difference between DKE and Phillips on the first 4 games and preseason evidence, except maybe a bit more hunger from DKE, and likely cheaper.
