I went to Whitley Abbey in the 1970's. It was bloody rough as old boots then . No one called Mark was a Sparky. They were all "Oi Mark you f*cking twat" or similar.
Never heard of Marks being called Sparky.Soz.

The only bloke I know called Mark is a right c**t.
Well most of the time anyway. Went out with a student nurse Many moons ago and used to sneak into her dorm at the Warnford hospital in Leamington and one night her boyfriend she was about to dump turned up outside the stair way as some fooker let him in. I had to put a white gown on like a medic and pretend his girlfriend was unwell hence why I was there!
He calmed down and thanked me for helping her and I duly fooked off.
His name was Mark and a right cock. A villa fan too if I remember.
I digress as usual!

I doubt it was the inspiration but in the forties and onwards there was a boy with a vivid imagination, a character in comics and animations .
Two well known instances include Sparky's Magic Piano and Sparky and the talking train ,the latters voice inspired Geoff Lynnes MR Blue Sky, tenuous connection .;-)
