I would let SP spend 5mill if it was there, he deserves a chance after all, he's been committed to us so far! You don't need a lot of money to get out of this division, it really is this simple. A good shot stopper in the sticks, a solid back 4, a playmaker and a tackler and a goal machine up front. Title winners

I think he can pick a player at this level.
I think he was the first to identify DMC, destroyed this league
He signed Muphy
He signed Cody (quality at this level)
He got Norwood and Nimley on loan
It is believed that he scouted the likes if gunner, baker, Keogh.
Signed Adam Barton (debatable one)
Tried to sign James Collins

His shite signings were

The two CB's and Reese Brown, Callam Ball, Chris Dunn. (Debatable as only a back up)

So he seems to have an eye for decent division three standard players.

Compare that to SP's signings

Actually there is to my knowledge only one player he has been quoted as signing as a scout -- David Bell. He was very proud of it "yeah Belly was one of mine"

Baker, Nimely and Mcdonald were garbage at the level he signed them at. The fact Mcgoldrick joined the instant the lazy twat was dismissed is I am sure a co-incidence.

All the players he signed in that close season were rubbish -- including Fleck and Barton. Strange how you forgot Elliot and Kilbane.

Look Percy, I have no problem with you but it did annoy me that you accused me of looking for an argument. It seems to me that you did not like my OP as it it does not fit with your view so you got a little narky. If you make accusations people will bite! Its a forum for crying out loud!

Thought you'd just be able comment without being personally attacked and it all getting out of hand and personal but then again guess I'm completely wrong.

If our wonderful owners suddenly decided to have a go and stumped up a £5m transfer kitty (yeh I know) would you trust SP to spend the money?

Even Alex Ferguson signed a number of notable duds. And that is with his vast worldwide professional scouting network. Anyone can buy an ' on fire' player like David McGoldrick or Callum Wilson for a large fee. The trick is to sign an undiscovered player without spending a fortune. That is a much more hit and miss proposition. So, yes I would trust SP with a transfer budget as much as any other manager. The only reason not to, would be if he is going to be let go in the near future.

Concerning with Pressley is that on more than one occasion he has explicitly stated what kind of player he wants and talks a lot about how important their attitude and commitment is. He then signed a load of players in the summer who he has then slated for not showing these things. Working out a player's ability/potential is tricky, but working out whether he gives a shit should be clear.

If he can't do that, how could he be trusted with a genuine transfer budget?

But to be fair you get what the budget buys, shop in pound land and you get products worth just that.
Were any of these players his first or second choice or the only one he could get to sign?

Just about every club in our division shops in poundland. Just about every club would sell when an offer comes in for a player. So why are our poundland players shite to the ones that the other clubs have signed? How many other clubs are struggling to even get a shot on target?

It makes it look like we get our players from the penny shop.

There's always the option of not signing them and saving on the signing on fees and wages, if all you're going to do is shuffle them on after a few weeks of them doing sod all.

That is fair and being in Northampton at the time is bound to have put players off. However other teams on similar or fewer resources don't have a problem in at least looking bothered-that's something you expect in a professional regardless of ability. Crewe were an awful side but we lost because they wanted it more, same for Worcester only on a bigger scale.

Serious question. Look at this article: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...ews/coventry-city-steven-pressley-set-8236403

It is possible (I agree unlikely) that Pressley will be given money to spend in January. If he does it's likely to be last transfer budget a manager gets for another few years. Would we rather that Sisu withheld the money until we have a manager who is a better judge of players? Andy Thorn and Mark Robbins were excellent at this side of the game. I agree that Pressley is very weak.

I'd rather they sacked the manager and gave the money to someone with a proven track record.

It isn't just about signing players, it is how you play them, how you manage them, the way they are asked to play, recognising their inabilities, getting their confidence high, having a settled squad and being able to tweak things when the going gets tough, sorry but for me Pressley is failing on just about all those points.

I'd suggest any fee would be minimal. It also appears he's talking about signing players already at the club which, even for Pressley's judge of a player or otherwise, suggests he'll have worked out if he can work with them or not.

That said, still highly concerned if he thinks attitude as important to him as playing ability, that Madine (Madine!) is top of his wanted list.

If ever there's a man likely to go off the rails at a moment's notice, it's him!

Yes I would trust him he might for once get a 1st choice. There is no doubt in my mind that he presents a list of players to Waggot, with a load 2nd 3rd 4th choice signings. I think the majority of the time he ends up with the 4th choice or a 5th choice made by Waggot.

If what you say is true scottie and I think it probably is, if he continues to get the ones Waggott thinks we should have he should publically resign and to save his reprutation .

Wouldn't trust him. Whether he has had money to spend or not, one of the things about being a manager is about spotting a player. His track record is abysmal at best in picking quality, attitude and character. To give him money to me spells danger of buying similar players but from higher leagues. I mean, would he have paid money for Delfounseo if he had the chance? Anybody who argues against this, can you please explain why because so far all you have to go on is what he has brought in so far? And please can we stop fucking saying "that he seems a nice bloke and I like him" because that is not a valid reason to say he will sign good players.

TBF the players he has signed were praised by some on here I personally had not heard of half of them.
I don't really pay much attention to opposition players can't even keep up with the ones we have got.
So maybe There is some truth in his inability I for one just don't like changing managers every two minutes as so far it has got us to where we are.
We will only be having this same discussion in 3 months time about our next manager.

it is difficult to judge SP, as during the last transfer opportunities, we had a shit ground, 10pt deduction, the threat of a further one, liquidation etc. A pro footballer would have been concerned about being paid at the end of the month and I'm pretty sure we could not have attracted anyone half decent due to the lack of wages available and signing on fees.
I like SP and the constant changing of our managers has got us nowhere. Stick with him and give him some cash to spend

Yep agree, similar to Blackpool in this fashion. A troubled club destined to go knowehere and publically known there isnt a penny in the coffers, why would you want to go there? The only reason we are attracting players on loan is the fact that the move in temporary (easier to shine in a shit team and all that) but they do not have the commitment compared to the full time players. This was similar to the Adams era where we seem to have a different loan player in every week (or was it just Duffy going back and forth!) and again the major reason why he failed. We need to primarily sign players not just borrow all of them.

If we sign any players the deals are always fairly short so it feels like a loan anyway.
